If you're bright, your lights are light, but not too bright. There was actually a Dutch news item about too bright bicycle lights blinding people on the bike paths. They also suck when you are a secret agent recumbent trike rider, but that'as another story.

Matt, After watching your videos for awhile, I became concerned about your safety on the road, and I had thought about making you a LED flasher for your flagpole, then you show up with these units. :) As a former emergency vehicle equipment installer, I would suggest that you zip tie the red LED module as high up on your flagpole as possible facing the rear, and add a good quality usb cable extension to reach your power pack mounted in a fixed location. Turn the level down and use the random flash mode that you like. With the low profile of your trike, you need a warning light up as high as you can place it. Running the usb cable might be problematic, given the constant flagpole motion, but I think the added safety is worth the effort. Just my 2cents. Enjoy the videos, stay safe, Jayoe! :)

That is one awesome set of lights! I know what I'm buying for my next self gift LOL. Could you do a little more review on them after you have had a chance to put them to a practical use on your travels? Things like battery life (time before dead) of the power source you're using to power the lights, Watts, MaH kind of stuff? JaYoe!

What would be best is to have a central controller where you can turn all DRL on or off instead of going to each like and having to manually turn them on/off.

if they need the power source to run perhaps a longer cable would be useful so that you don't need 2 power banks to run both. other then that, they look great and I would totally consider them for our trek across Canada this year, maybe even just the red one for read daytime lighting - Lindsay

I'm testing emergency vehicle warning LEDs that are as bright as those. Two things are important to test, power drain on the battery bank (how long will they stay on) and the big one, how well are they seen from a distance. I'm using a 24v power source and am getting 7.5 hours out of each bank. How do those look from 800 - 1000' behind? How much heat do these produce after a long runtime? The lights I'm using are mounted in an aluminium body that can act as a heatsink when mounted as such. I started looking into this after what happened to James Dobson. So Matt, would you do a video from a distance to see how well you are seen?

Hey Matt, because of your video I ordered them today. BUT now I'm very concerned. It's so quiet around this company. Seems to be nearly dead. No news, no action at fb, insta, twitter, their own homepage. Is it still active? Do they have any problems with the Orfos Pro? Or do they have no success just bc of the indeed way too high price?
@rifamycin
@rifamycin 5 жыл бұрын
Nice review. For future reference you'll probably want to include a test at 300 ft for the tail light, to show that it is clearly visible from that distance, since you'll want cars to notice you and they can close the distance fast. And for the headlight try to show the projection pattern of the light. Is there a hot spot or is the light really diffused out on the roadway. And where does the light fall off so that it isn't useful.

@webluke

$80 per light with no battery, way over priced, I would be ok if it was around $40 each for a quality light and a cheep 2000mAh battery pack. I bet you can find a Chinese cheep version that is an exact copy for $5-10 with the same materials. They did think of some good stuff like having the different flashing modes, super bright LEDs, quality cable, and making them compatible with any USB power source. I would hope you collected some money for the review beyond the free lights, if they sell 20-50 of these it would be worth it to drop you a few thousand for the advertising based on their price, or hope you worked out a percentage deal with that coupon code.

Those look like a very robust design. I would be a little concerned with driving them at the high setting for extended periods as there appears to be inadequate heatsinking/heat-dissipation. This will reduce the lifespan of the LED significantly or even cause premature failure. These lights are ridiculously overpriced. I estimate the BOM at 1,000unit pricing ~$11-13 that includes the clear encapsulation and pigtail. This is a good design don't get me wrong, they just are overpriced. I would consider $40ea reasonable.
