Very Excellent. Gamdhi Sahib may revive the golden age of Muslims when they prospered literally and philosophically in Baghdad, Al-Andalusia, and North Western Africa. That was the time when scholars like Gamdhi Sab were engaged in such type of intellectual debates. Period of religious rationalism, tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

Zeeshan Saheb, he is not really Great Scholar as you said. This is one very rare topic he looks correct in my opinion. In majority issues he gives FITNAH opinions. But yes on this topic I agree with his ruling. Allah Knows Best.

Ghamdi Sahib is a great scholar and his points of view are generally logical. I just heard his argument against the transplant and he built his case against the procedure all the time but i find it interesting that at the end he gives in a bit of ground on the basis of “genetic modification” and “if” the organ is “enough” modified it may be permissible. Here two things are possible, one that Ghamdi Sahib has not given enough thought to the comprehensive nature of the subject yet and the urgency of news has forced him to take a position Or is it the history repeating itself again that unfortunately we reject everything new at the start and then develop the acceptance slowly once it establishes it’s merits. May Allah be our guide.

The only point that comes to my mind is this: If we can eat a haraam thing like snake for survival when we don't have any other option, how is this scenario any different from that?

@@ronshah246 eating haram animal is for saving life when no halal is available, but in case of heart trnasplant there are soooooooo many options of halal mamals. This surgery is never done in urgency. Its planned procedure

@@ronshah246 more over now genetcists are working on making such vital organs invitro, meaning in lab, from single human cell, so soon transplant of any animal organ will not remain an option. At the end of discussion ghamidi saab agreed for gentically modified organ just to end the discussion ciz there were so many ifs and buts, no solid case to give final verdict.

I think ,it is a life savings procedure, so is allowed in Islam. Concept of 'temporary ' cannot be applied here as, any time you think of removing the heart from the body, you are going to die. So at any interval of time, you need this heart as a life saver, so it would be allowed From another view, when someone eats pork as a life saver, molecules from its body might go to fat tissue etc where they may reside for years. As heart be residing in its place for years, without which you can't survive

Beautiful and so logical explanation of basis and principles. Being a surgeon. I have 2 doubts: 1. Pig heart was genetically modified so it was not exactly original one. Insulin is another example. 2. This heart in human body is working as a pump only. Unlike eating where food is forming part of whole body. Then same principle should apply to suture materials and prosthesis if their original source is not halal.

1- Even if muslims know that insulin is made up of pig, the feel is not as bad as that of pig heart in human body. Only if we can deal with that feel and its matter of life and death, and with all the medical clarifications, I don’t see any sort of problem. But this is my opinion only 2- I’ve heard of some sort of experiments in which when human hearts replaced with human heart, the person with new heart adopts some characteristics of the other person like he becomes extrovert if he was introvert before the heart transplant. Sience has proofs that heart also thinks but in a different way than brain. If heart is such a big thing then I don’t know how will this thing work in longer run.

1. Ghamdi SB categorically said about genetically modified heart in the end of his lecture, that if there is research material and certifications from scientists that the genetically modified heart has been changed then it can be used. 2. Regarding your second point further discussion is needed.

I always admired him for his comprehension of Deen his school of thought and wiser and wider point of view. For the first time ever he couldn’t convince me from his logic. The “darindagi” he is talking about is already in man. Man eats cow and sheep so does the tiger and lion. Human is already as beastie as a lion or tiger both eat meat. He contradicted his own logic. Pig is a transition animal and has closest similarities with human. Animal viruses don’t attack human just because they don’t understand human genetics. But pig being closer to human so viruses after spending time in the pig can infect human if human consume swine flesh. Because when a virus attack human they miss judge human as a swine and get activated. Example Swine flue Bird flue Anthrax Swine flue COVID-19 SARS All these diseases have pig intermediary for their spread in human and all emerged from the regions where human consumed swine flesh.

He applied the Emergency circumstances ruling of islam . So in other words it he said it is ok if a person cant find a human heart and he he is in life or death situation ... But the problem is eating meat is one or two time thing to protect ourselves but heart will remain until death

You have asked a very good question but as far as I have read Ghamdi sahib We do not slaughter animals by our own choice but recite their takbeer which means we are slaughtering animals by Allah's permission and Allah's command. You cannot say that we have shown brutality

The "darindagi" of man you are referring to is what i think you would call the inhumanity of man to one another. Inherently, humans / insaan are not "darindas" they certainly act in that man (Hitler etc). Whereas the daranidas, "beasts" are not inherently humane. They act on instinct (survival of the fitest etc). Also I'm sure Ghamidi sahib would not succomb to the logical pitfall of calling humans "darinda" whilst fully well knowing that Allah (SWT) has called humankind "ashraf-ul-makhluqaat" My two cents worth of comments! Very well said... If it's valid that a doctor allows a patient to avoid fasting in case that is harmful for him ...similarly on advice of a doctor this heart transplant can also be allowed because it can be advised only after all other methods to save a human life exhaust ....

If you are allowed to eat Pig when there is nothing around and there is a chance that you might die from hunger. Isn't it the same situation? You are dying and pig heart is the only way to go?

Hassan, you asked the real question in the end and I think it needs to be discussed more. Pig's heart is no more than a muscle. There have been several genetic modifications before this transplant could take place otherwise human immune system starts acting up against the transplant. This is the first of its kind and there will be more genetic modifications as the patient is monitored and research advances. We need to think hard and closely before we call it haram. Pig's biology is very close to human biology and no other animal comes close to this. Maybe Baboons are close second but their transplants have never been successful. The success of heart transplants can save hundreds of thousands of lives and can help kill the black market of organ donation altogether. Kindly, discuss this from a genetic modification perspective because with those modifications, the heart can not possibly work if it was put back into the pig. Also, it's an irony that the surgeon who did the surgery is a Muslim.

Surgeon is not Muslim. The Muslim doctor is the head of the zenotransplant department working on research but not the cardiac surgeon.

Not an easy answer, because to what extent it can be modified. one needs to go through those details, like a comb or a carpet from these things, just become a solid object and not soluble with anything then it is permissible but whether in this transplant we use it like a solid box, definitely not, genetic modification will not erase the original cells of that heart and it will continue to be part of the process.

With huge respect, I disagree with Ghamidi Sahib. Eating human flesh is Haram in Islam as eating pork, still humans' organs are donated and used in other people, like eyes, heart etc. I see no objection in using Pigs Heart to save precious life of a dying man.

I think same logic would be applied to these pig derivatives well. Sutures are made from goat or sheep intestines - not pig's. There are alternatives to porcine insulin ( pig or cow derived) Similarly, there are alternatives to bovine heparin ( ox or pig). However, if there are no alternatives available, to save a human life, one could use porcine insulin or bovine heparin.

Dear Sir, I almost always tend to agree with you. However, here, I understand the affect of heart being part of genetically modified heart would only be of pumping blood. Completely different from if we have eaten its meat which would have an effect on our genes. I might be wrong in believing this view, please explain. Last question was the most important , hence needs to be further explained by yourself after getting more information about the heart actually used, I mean how much it was genetically modified and was it enough changed that you would accept it as a Halal transplant??

غامدی صاحب آپ نے جو فرمایا وہ اپنی فہم کے مطابق بتایا ہے۔ دوسرے لفظوں میں ایک عقلی دلیل دی ہے۔ یعنی جو فلسفہ آپ نے بیان فرمایا ہے کہ وہ گوشت چونکہ ہمارے جسم کا حصہ بن جاتا ہے تشکیل یا تخلیق کی صورت میں اس لیے ممانعت کا حکم دیا گیا۔ تو میرا سوال یہ ہے کہ درندوں کے گوشت کا انسانی وجود کے حصہ بننے میں کیا مضائقہ ہو سکتا ہے۔ تو کیا ایسا نہیں ہو سکتا ممانعت کی وجہ کوئی سائنٹفک ہے مثلاً اس م کے انسانی جسم پر مضر اثرات ہو سکتے ہیں کسی جسمانی بیماری کی صورت میں یعنی ان درندوں کے جسم کوئی ایسا بیکٹیریا یا وائرس موجود ہو جو نقصان دہ ہو یا ان چونکہ وہ درندے دوسرے درندوں کو کھاتے ہیں تو جانے کتنے ہی ایسے مضرِ صحت وائرس انسانی جسم میں داخل ہو سکتے ہیں۔
