On December 8, 2001, 6 Singaporean suspects were arrested in the country’s first ever homegrown terror plot. A video footage recovered by the Alliance forces in Afghanistan had detailed plans to attack American targets in Singapore.
The detainees belonged to a clandestine terror group that operated in the region for decades, known as JEMAAH ISLAMIYAH - a regional affiliate of the global terrorist group, Al-Qaeda which carried out the terrorist attacks in the US on September 11, 2001.
Incriminating information obtained from the 6 detainees also led to the arrests of 13 more people. The continuing security operation had effectively crippled the Singapore JI and thwarted multiple plots by the group to carry out terror attacks in the country.
But 20 years after the arrests of members of Jemaah Islamiyah or JI, is the Al-Qaeda linked terrorist group on the cusp of revival?

Nice work by ISD. JI plans too ambitious. Anyway, Ji a shadow of itself, but the ideology still there. Asian nations must not let their guard down.

they always say a law enforcement agency won't be as efficient without good CI's/turncoat. Thank god we have them around. I also remember the escape of Mas Selamat. A truly blunder for Singapore and how nonchalant we are when comes to domestic terrorism at that time. MS will definitely need to have help for him to get across to Malaysia and survive for a year yet today we know next to nothing on some of his accomplices

Mas Selamat was a master at making himself look harmless, especially by exagerating his limp. That was the reason why the guard who allowed him to use the washroom had let his guard down. A weak cripple isnt a risk.

Agree. Most people deny this incident has nothing to do with Islam. But when we saw Afghanistan, Iran, Saudi, Syria, Southern Thailand and Malawi, it happened over and over again. Then we have to accept the fact that it has come from the root of religion itself. Please remember, true Muslim will never rest in peace until all around the world (or universe) submit to the religion of Islam. Please do not listen to any Muslim apologists.

@@HainiDjokovic1995im not a muslim but its not as simple as that. Their holy book needs to be intepreted by their religious trained. Their Prophets efforts to spread the Islamic religion spanned across two distinct periods in history. One during peace and the second saw many wars. Hence their holy book has instructions and requirements that apply to different situations they find themselves in. Non muslims and for many parts the more ignorant among the Muslims do not understand basic things such as the above. They see a verse that says that muslims must kill the non believers for an example and assume that the holy book itself is a terror manual. The fact is that chapter and verse is only when the state is at war or is being attacked. And than you have the concept of Jihad. Again the same issue. Jihad is an arabic word that means struggle. The Jihad during peace time is not the same as the Jihad when the state is at war. The first is a struggle for self improvement. During war, the struggle is taking up arms against the enemy at the gates. With that being said, we cant blame non muslims to misunderstand the Islamic teachings when muslims themselves can be easily led astray and convinced that Jihad requires them to become martyrs.
