Inside a cheap LED projector.

One of the show's projectionists brought through a cheap LED projector he had bought to try. He was disappointed at the intensity of the image, and it really isn't that great for anything other than a very dark room or an image of around a metre across (about 3 feet).
The light path is from a well cooled rectangular LED firing into a collimating assembly and then going through a polarising filter, LCD panel and fresnel keystone correction lens before bouncing off a front silvered mirror and exiting the unit via the focusable lens. The construction was pretty good and it gave usable results for a low-key application.

Bought one of these off eBay a while back. They work great in pitch black, but it takes very little light to wash it out. Nice to see what they look like inside.

oh wow, vapour change heat pipes and an aluminium fin array, they're VERY serious about the passive cooling on that chip, that is very good for an LED, I've seen PC's with less cooling than that,

+biohazard 918 that tiny pathetic excuse for a fan, is not active, it is also not mounted to the fin array, ergo passive. I think an asthmatic granny coughing on it would provide more airflow than that thing.
@Anvilshock
@Anvilshock 8 жыл бұрын
Forced airflow = active. Doesn't matter if mounted directly or not. The air is still channelled, goes through the fins and then out the slits on the side. So stop spewing bullshit. Just because it doesn't meet your "standards" doesn't mean it mustn't meet the definition's standard. Also, radial fans > axial fans. You'd be surprised how that "pathetic" fan would outperform an axial one of same size.

Joshua Nicoll Have a slowclap, Mister PC-cooling fanatic with your fan mounting snake oil, for you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. None about static vs. dynamic pressure, none about static pressure having no direction, none about effective cross section, none about forced vs thermally self-induced circulation, none about good puns. Just kindly do us all a favour, and stop breathing, will you? Get it? Air-breathing?

They're playing Scotland the Brave. Since it's the natural tendency of pipe bands to start playing that song when they get together, it's probably the Massed Pipes and Drums. Fun fact: when they encounter a brass band, they stop playing Scotland the Brave and instead start playing Highland Cathedral. The brass band is first confused by the single piper and single snare drum, and then startled by the entire mass of pipes and drums playing the same tune. At the beginning of the verse (I think it's called, its' the different melody), they join in with a counter-harmony. When this is succesfull, they join the main harmony for the next chorus (again, I'm not sure about musical terms, especially in English), forming essentially one huge band of sometimes several hundreds of musicians.

That reminds of the first prototype projector, a guy used a standard slide projector, he got hold of a LCD (monochrome at the time) that was about the same size as a slide, and successfully projected an image, he was thinking of stacking 3 lcd's somehow, of different colours, but the focal length of 2 of them would have been out. I have since searched for it without success, it was i think on Tomorrows World.

I had a similar one of these LED projectors. Unfortunately it broke after a year. The image was poor and the dust got into the lenses. It has a 10w LED and the thing what failed wasn't the LED, it was the driver. I now has a £350.00 Acer projector with 2400 lumens and it is much better.

I got a nice used 720p projector that was advertised as broken off ebay for $30. It had a busted current sensing choke on the PSU that I was able to repair, after that all it need was a new $60 bulb. Recently however I watched a terrible documentary and now it has a dead pixel. I blame the documentary.

That's really interesting...I know I have a little "pico projector" I think it was Optoma but not sure but it's about what you described with this one, good enough for something the size of a normal TV but not a lot more. I know one thing I've found with most of these mini LED projectors is they have to "warm up" about 10 minutes before you focus them because the plastic lenses and components seem to change shape slightly and throw off the focus.

Handy little gadget but I'm not changing my cheap (second-hand) Sharp DLP projector just yet! With the cost of large-format LCD screens falling fairly steadily, and the New Year Sales within reasonable reach, I might consider replacing it with a "real" big screen wall mount TV. Then The Mrs will have the "big screen" home cinema experience she's rather keen to experience :-)

So, I guess I won't be using this to replace my Sony 300" jobbie then? I suppose these little projectors would be fine for kids' parties and suchlike where the audience wouldn't be particularly critical, and image quality wouldn't wouldn't be an issue. I've often wondered about this small projectors, and I suppose that if you can muster a 50" picture out of one, then it may have some merit as a portable imaging system.

MadeOfSolder Finding bulbs isn't a thing I wanted to do. It should also be rather lightweight, and of course cheap. I learned from another comment thread that DLP or LCoS based projectors are better (so in fact for one like the one bigclive took apart in the video, I'd only be willing to pay 20 bucks), but they aren't as cheap yet. OK, I can wait, don't need one right now, it would be kind of a play thing anyways...

I've just got one of these projectors and have tried a 100w led. It's not fully fitted yet, just wired with a heatsink externally to try for a minute or two. The led psu/driver seems to cope, pushing a full 100W; may make it dimmable yet. The projectors heat sink seems more than up to the job, the heatsink fan pushes a cool 30c of air out with the 50W lamp. Need to try it in situ and measure the 100W led surface temperature before I box it up and fry the full set up.

Tiny speaker. Not sure about fan noise as there were other loud equipment fans running in the same room.

I know that logic board, I actually know how to obtain those for 1 off custom jobs for ~28$-38$ depending on the source. They are super generic and ching markety.

È così specialista che mi aspetterei che l'unica fonte del filtro perfettamente dimensionato fosse il produttore originale.
