¥180, depending on the exchange rate at the time, is within the ballpark of $1.50 for the Costco hotdog. Happy to see it!

It amszes me how NOT different it is. More seafood and some other local goodies, but for the mast part, an American would feel pretty well at home.

Yes, Costco seems very consistent across the world. The food court was the most unique part but still has very familiar foods

@@walkingtheglobe Employee here! A couple of meetings ago, someone mentioned Malaysia, they responded that they have no space to build their Costco there and barely a market there.

I did see a lot of bakeries in Japan, and some looked interesting, but for some reason I didn't visit many of them. Probably because there was so much other good food to eat!

I think he meant the baked goods they have at costco in japan! There are way better ones and many more than in the U.S. :)

@@anastasiab.8433 thanks for clearing that up! Yes I agree the one Costco bakery I visited in Japan seemed to have lots of variety. I wish I had time to visit other Costco locations here

There were some notable things missing. Mainly the croissants and muffins.

not just bakeries. Looks like EVERY item they carried over in Japan is better than the costco in the US.

soo many food item. can they actually turn profit? since food usually had really thin profit margin

Good question. There is definitely a lot of food here! I think for some things like the chickens they roast them which extends the window. I also noticed there's a lot of people shopping so maybe they are able to sell all this food before it goes bad. I would think that Costco has this down to a science!

Yeah cosco has been in america for quite some time so they've perfected their wholesale method. Essentially to go to cosco you need to pay a membership (in the united states it's around 60$/year) so they take smaller profit margins on food and make up for the profit margin with membership revenue
