There are some colleges that are closing, and the city could purchase them and renovate them for single girls and retired woman. The college could serve meals and offer exercise programs and show movies. Therefore, people wouldn't feel lonely living alone.

That sounds like a convent. For how long do you think the girls would stay single? And does your idea include the boys that pretend to be women too?
@rubychew6535

It would be cheap housing for young girls starting out and retired persons could live cheaply as well. These girls would eventually move out. It would be like the YWCA.

Great idea! Ditto for any abandoned public or private building that could be adapted in that way. In Europe they have such combined student-retiree living arrangements, where students get free or cheaper housing in exchange for spending time with and organising events for their elderly resident neighbors. It has been wildly successful with both age ranges thriving! That should be the norm everywhere! How sad though that colleges should be closing. Why? To the contrary, they should be opening more. Is this part of the continuing post-Reagan-Bush dumbing down of Amerika stage 4 metastisis?

I have the same lamp from IKEA in orange. And I don’t think yours is broken. You just have to change the lightbulb in it. You open the screws under the lamp shade (the part with clouds) and change the bulb. It is a tiny, tiny bulb with metal “legs”. I love ❤️ love ❤️ love ❤️ the apartment. In Texas..because of Harvey..they have this program..you apply..its a program designed to help homeowners repair their homes. I applied..they told me ..if the house is too damaged..then we will demolished it and built a new home. I'm like yeah right...I was just happy getting some help to repair my home. They came back and said you qualify for a new home?? I got into my new brand house last year in October. I am so blessed I don't ask for anything else. Your Mortgage stays the same..you just can't sell or get a loan against it for 3 years. After the 3 years you are free to do whatever you want!! My sister saw a news report..in 2019 ..talking about it..encouraging homeowners that were still dealing with damages due to Harvey to apply. So she applied for me and they called and started the process. I owe so much to my sister for doing that cause I was so tired trying to fix my house. (I did fix the roof but I had mold already in the attic and in some rooms). So people don't give up..apply to all kinds of programs out there!!😁👍🙏

As someone not in the US, what does that mean she won the housing lottery, does that mean she gets the studio apartment for free (and it’s in her name) and only has to pay bills? A little more context would be appreciated, thanks.
@dnereaux
@dnereaux 2 жыл бұрын
A free apartment in a luxury building like this? No, that would never be the case. For a little context, the housing in NYC has gotten more and more expensive over the years but people's income has remained the same. This has caused so many people to be pushed out of their affordable apartments because the property owners keep raising prices, there are people who move here that are willing to pay these ridiculous, so prices keep going up and people are unable to find places to live or they have to share an apartment with several roommates. The city came up with the idea of the "lottery" where they give tax breaks (or make it a requirement in order to be allowed to build) to developers building new expensive properties. The developers must make a certain amount of the new apartments less expensive than the others in the building aka "affordable" and people have to apply to be put on a waiting list of thousands of other people who need an affordable apartment. There's only a certain amount of "affordable" apartments available in these new luxury buildings, lets say 10 out of 100 new apartments. This is where the "lottery" come in; out of the thousands of applications, 10 people get randomly picked to move into one of the 10 apartments. If they meet the requirements, such as income, they get to move in but still have to pay the rent for their unit (as well as their utilities & other bills) and they can still be evicted if they don't pay their rent.

What is a Housing Lottery? Can a New Yorker explain here please?
@MattSezer
@MattSezer 2 жыл бұрын
New buildings get tax credits if they allocate a certain percentage of the units to be affordable to people making below a certain income. If you make below that income and meet the other qualifications, you can enter a lottery to be offered the opportunity to rent one of these apartments, which are normally significantly cheaper than market rate.
