Thank you so much for this! My daughter who's 16 found a baby Mockingbird a couple of weeks ago. It was storming here for few days straight he was soaked. He also was by a driveway. We waited a while but he wouldn't move. His legs were not moving. Just cried. We took it home and nursed it. We feed it insects and made a mixture of cereal, boiled eggs, cat food and puree the food in batches. Well he got stronger. My daughter has taught it a whistle so he can respond to her and come to her when he's outside. I told her it was time to let him go. One because she wasn't sleeping anymore. He ate every 15mins or 30mins. Two, he was big and strong enough, using his legs, needed to be wild, but most important free. She's so worried she won't let him out of her sight while he is outside. She will bring him inside at night. After seeing this educational video I will have her watch it so she can finally let him go. This video you created will help her understand he will be fine. I have been following a pair of mockingbirds since last year. They already recognize me, and even recognize my car when I arrived from work. I didn't see them successfully having babies last year even though the nest was four houses down from mine. Yesterday I arrived and see these two friends perched on the same spot we meet, but this time they flew into my backyard and forth. I heard this tiny singing and when I walked into my yard there they were, the two babies on my tree, and mom followed me there and just looked at me like saying, "here are my babies" no aggression just standing there. I was so happy to see that they finally had babies. Everyday now they are there singing❣️❣️❣️. Seeing this video now I saw the process of birth of these magnificent creatures...Thank you..

I am a teacher who also saw a pair of mockingbirds raise their three young ones in my dad's pear tree last year. I got some photos and a few videos, but your documentary is absolutely a joy to watch. I will be sharing it with my students so they can appreciate the beauty of nature. We are learning about birds and we are up to the lesson about nesting. This find is perfect! I absolutely love mockingbirds. They intelligent, fearless and make aerial moves like no other that I have seen. They live on our property and I go out watch them most days.

The Mockingbird is my favorite bird, thanks for doing this documentary.

Mom and Dad will coax the babies to a nearby bush. They will climb into the bush and perfect their branch climbing skills. Mom and Dad will continue to feed them and quite ferociously fend off any predators. Once they get past the bush stage, they head for the nearest tree. By this time they're just beginning to fly. Once they start flying, Mom and Dad will work tirelessly keeping the brood together and fed. Also, the parents will take the young birds to a good hunting area and teach them how to hunt. Finally, the parent Mockers will chase the baby's away so they will learn how to survive by their own flying and hunting skills. Mockers are a special interest of mine. I've watched them follow this pattern for many years now. I buy live meal worms by the thousands and help the parents feed the babies during the Spring and Summer months. Finding food for a nest full of hungry beaks is very stressful time for the parents. I like to help. Mockingbirds do have quite an attitude you know.

We have these guys in the bushes outside the window. The little ones hang around the bushes for a LONG time , squawking to be fed.Thanks for the great video !

Few days ago I commented on this video and how helpful it was for me since I have observing a mocking bird nest that was build against my screen porch. Through all the baby that hatch was doing great. it was 5 days old yesterday when my neighbour began burning fire works outside his home , he was loud and the fire works were tremendously loud and where falling on my side. That startle the parent bird off the nest and the baby was lost for ever.This selfish person burn fire works from 11-1 am I look and look for the baby, the parents too will come from time to time and search on the ground,but in vain. We could not find him. This is so sad, so much care to have fall a victim of the acts of such savage person that could not take into consideration that we live in an densely bird populate area surrounded with all kinds of beautiful while life too. Some people only think about they will build a home an who cares about their surroundings as long as they are comfortable , that is only what they care about. I am utterly sad about the end of this baby bird.I have cried for hours.It is so sad.

Thank you for making this video. It explains what our nest of four mockingbirds just went through. We watched the whole process out our window , but didn't know that baby chicks spend two weeks on the ground after they leave the nest being trained by Daddy bird to become independent. He teaches them to eat and fly, guarding them the whole time. Ours left the nest two days ago and we found only one on the ground under the nest. My son shored up the falling apart nest and put him back in. Momma tended him, but next day he was gone too. We hope they made it and are under our plants with Dad.

Phenomenal inside look of what is currently happening for the second time (in the last 6 weeks -- same pair of mockingbirds!) in my backyard. The Northern Mockingbird (Mimus Polyglottos) is my favorite bird and I enjoy both research and study of this particular bird. Although, I have been backyard bird watching for eight years and appreciate all birds it is the "Mockingbird" that captures my heart.

Thank you so much for your video. I am 61 years old and I had my first Mockingbird nest right outside my window in a Japanese Yew bush. I was able to watch for a few days until the parents caught on that I was at the window. The tree was also right outside my front door and it was very difficult to walk out the door because the parents swooped down and tried to shoo me away.

I have been observing a couple of mockingbirds from the moment they began making their nest against my screen porch in my rubber bush, till present. Now the egg has hatch and the baby is for days old today. Your documentary has guide me on knowing what to expect and when ( it is also adorable, I just enjoy it). Today in the storm the baby fail off the nest so I run out and put him back. his mom who was just by him got frighten and flow away but now has came back and has been sitting for the last 30 minutes. I am glad that she return.

Thanks for sharing the video. I just had the same experience last 10 d watching 3 young Mockingbirds to grow up. Two days ago, one young bird was still by the nest. Later I found it in my garage, probably stayed overnight. It could not fly yet, then it ran to my neighbors front yard bushes. The mother was watching it from above. I hope it survived.

Thank you for sharing this documentary. I found a bird in my garage. Thinking it was the dovelings that are nesting under the eves of my house, I put the baby near by. Then I noticed my two dove babies are still in the nest. Mocking birds kept close so I did some research to see what type of bird I found. Mocking bird it is! He is so little and fluffy and really can't fly just like you mentioned. Thank you again for your video.

I love watching the mockingbirds in my neighborhood. We have had several nests in our yard, as well as the neighbors' yards. You did a great job filming and staying out of the birds' way to let nature do its thing.

Looking for videos on Mockingbirds, I stumbled onto yours. Well done! I've seen them where I live (southern Ontario) several times over a 30 year period, but never could figure out what breed. I just called them the aerobatic killdeers after the way they take-off and land (I'm assuming a courting display or to tell others "this is my territory"). I haven't seen one in over 20 years, then to my surprise, at work only several weeks ago, I saw the "aerobatic killdeer" again, and this time I noticed it's song.... ones it stole from local frogs, car alarms, herring gulls, blue jays ect... Google is helpful at telling you interesting things. The aerobatic killdeer with the roundels on its upper and lower wing surface (noticed that 30 years ago) turned out to bee a Northern Mockingbird. I wish I could attract a pair to very near my backyard. With that bird, you have just about all your local birds in one, plus many not local to you if they're migrating. Thanks for posting this video even though it was 4 years ago. I loved it.

Great job! This was a wonderful film and like others, I thoroughly enjoyed it. many years ago, we found a couple young mockingbirds on our back patio. The arrangement of the property didn't allow any cover or much bare ground in the back of this house, so we collected the 2 young birds and called the Audubon Society for advice how to care for them. We were directed to someone who did a lot of bird rescue in the area (Southern California) and we discovered the birds were mockingbirds. Our contact provided instruction on how to care for these birds and gave us several more to nurse until they were old enough to fly and care for themselves. We also learned that mockingbirds typically nest in heavy brush because their babies fledge before they can fly and the brush provides cover for them from predators. In many places, bushes are replaced with trees which is not idea for mockingbirds. If a young bird falls from a tree, he cannot get back to safety because limbs are too high and the fledgeling cant fly. Bushes are close enough to the ground that they can jump back to safety. Our home is now in Texas and mockingbirds have been regular residents here. We have purposely planted shrubs along one side of our property where we hope these birds can nest and their babies fledge in relative safety. I believe we have had at least one pair build a nest there, but it is difficult to tell because of the foliage. Again, very much enjoyed your video.

Awesome job, my cat brought in a baby mockingbird yesterday and we cant find the nest. I was able to tell it was about 10-13 days old and how to feed it with the aid of this video. Its now doing well in a cage away from my cats and other predators for the next few days till its time for fledging. Thank you for posting this. It really helped.

I ran outside to see why the birds sounded so distressed. I got underneath the tree to find a crow eating the babies. I shouted at him and tried to scare him off but he didn't even flinch.

I love mockingbirds. When I was young we use to live in the country. And I would find their nests all the time. They are very territorial. lol The babies often leaves the nest really early.

Great work, I really enjoyed being able to see so much detail, never knew the eggs were that color. A pair of mockingbirds built their nest on a small tree low to the ground in front of my house and it was really amazing the watch them raise their chicks. When the chicks left the nest they each went to different people's back yards (Brooklyn NY). This resulted in the parents having to take food to three different locations. Sadly, only 2 of the three managed to survive. I was able to see them perched on trees as they got older.

Thank you so much for filming this, it made my day. Several weeks ago, I realized there was a mockingbird couple that had made a nest in the tree outside our kitchen window. About 10 days ago, I started hearing little chirps, and realized that the babies had been born. It concerned me that I only heard one peep. I have 4 cats and was worried... did one fall out? One day I put a camera on a pole, by the nest. The Mom was NOT happy about this, and tried to lunge at my camera. I don't blame her, for all she knew, I'd try to steal her babies. Anyway, I was able to see two birds on camera, both alive and breathing, but laying on their backs, sleeping until I guess the Mom returned with more food. I'd heard there are usually 4 birds, so I wanted to try film them one more time to assure myself there could have been 4, and maybe they were just hidden (I didn't get the clearest shot... you can see it here: live.staticflickr.com/65535/47975210306_940ca1c812_o.jpg). But a friend told me that she'd heard from a bird expert that you can literally give a mother bird a heart attack doing this, because it causes so much stress, so I never tried filming them again. Yesterday, I realized I didn't hear any chirping in the morning when I woke up, and when I went outside, I realized, they'd flown the nest. I did go ahead and put the camera up to the nest again since I heard NO peeping all morning, and it looked as if it had been evacuated. For whatever reason, I was so sad that they had left and I wouldn't be hearing any more chirping. I guess I thought I'd at least get a chance to see a little peek of them, learning how to fly, but... nothing. They were just completely gone one morning. So your video made me kind of feel like I was able to get the experience of seeing them grow up, without having to stick a camera in the nest and stress the birds out (who knows, you may have been able to prevent others from stressing out Mama birds, as well). Thanks so much for this, you really have some incredible footage, this is a really great documentary!
