Ev's may not always be the answer but those delivery trucks that don't see hundreds of miles a day are probably great candidates for ev. Little to no engine maintenance could be a big plus.

Electric is just better than internal combustion for local delivery vehicles that do a lot of start and stop because the motor doesn't have to be started and doesn't need to idle. You just go. Full torque from zero rpm.

just saying, bicycles have been around for 200 years Aaaand we could change work policy instead (which is what they would do if there was a real problem with that)

Copied from internet: In 2021, USPS selected Oshkosk Defense to manufacture a new line of delivery vans called Next Generation Delivery Vehicles (NGDVs). The Postal Service is spending roughly $10 billion on its new fleet, which includes agreeing to purchase more than 106,000 NGDVs by 2028. Of those, 45,000 will be electric.

1:33 - 1:40 This statement right here. This is more important to the vitamin then them using EVs. Because for many years delivery drivers have used an efficient routes to deliver their packages. Having a strict limit on how far you can go... is beneficial in many ways for the statement that he said and others if you take the time to think about it

Just keep in mind when discussing the United States Post Office - Amazon will lose millions just to gain market share the USPS can't just do that. Also, no one asked Amazon IF its cheaper to run electric trucks vs gas powered trucks. If I tell you your mail will rise by .25 or .50 cents a lot of taxpayers might object just to say the USPS has electric trucks.

EVs cost 1/4 the fuel cost and 1/4 the maintenance.

The only way electric vehicles can be greener is if they were covered in solar skin!

Thats the flexibility of an EV, if the Grid is down gas pump will stop working, but you can power your operation in that case through backup generator, solar, grid, gas or whatever. And when the grid is up you have far cheaper per milage cost in a long run

WTF is there NO solar panels on top of their facilities to go even more green and charge these trucks? It does NOT make sense to me.

They are bad because they're not carbon neutral. Hydrogen maybe is better in some situation like cold climates.

If they pick a EV i am pretty sure refill time is not their concern, more likely is cost per milage

Electric vehicles don’t reduce carbon emissions. They transfer them elsewhere-to the mines where tons of materials are extracted for each battery and to the power plants for the electricity. Many of the components are made in China with coal-fired power, then transported on massive ships to America. EVs are heavier and tires (made from oil) wear out faster. In Texas we use local oil, transported through pipelines to refineries. EVs are cool, but they are NOT saving the planet.

Under current technology this is definitely the truth, but with the understanding that centralized power generation is far more efficient and economical, and the rapid interaction of battery technology, we might be better off with electric then staying with combustion

EVs have a larger carbon footprint during manufacturing but it’s made up in 6 month to a year or so. Yes they use electricity, which isn’t usually carbon free, but they use a quarter of the energy that gas cars use. That’s their big environmental benefit. Batteries are recycled - we only need to get the materials for the first generation. EVs also last 2-4x as long as gas cars so the lifetime manufacturing emissions are less because you don’t have to make as many. A battery lasts 350,000 to a million miles. A motor lasts a million miles.

Surprised you didn’t share how many miles these trucks can travel on a charge. Battery technology is just not there yet. It will be when Solid State batteries come out. You should do a segment on that

Amazon last-mile delivery does not operate 27/7, most of the time the vehicle is in parking, from Rivian website one change for a vehicle is 161 mi. Compare to other Rivian vehicle where 400 mile will take 13 hours for a full charge with 240v home power, this vehicle can surely complete charge over the night even with 240v

True and Large scale power generation is far more efficient and economical then individual generators or engine, otherwise you will have a power generator running in your house 24/7
