A look inside the Badjao community. They are known as the sea gypsies of the Philippines and make a living from free dive fishing and spear fishing. The people were friendlu and energy level down there was wild :)

Bajaos are water nomads, kinda like water Gypsies. The government of the Philippines supposed to protect them financially (obviously with very little). They usually have elders that you have to speak to before you go in and video. Usually these kids will swim when you throw coins into the water that is what they were trying to tell you when you were by the water... Its a very cool and historical story behind them. Definitely worth the read.

They are good people ♥️ i remember years ago when my family had vacation in cebu before mo dunggo (arriving to the pier) they will ask money and we throw it away into the sea and they will swam even it is so deep. Badjao is very good swimmer even a 5 years kid they could swim already if im not mistaken ♥️

I’m pretty confused by the wealthy in the Philippines. I understand there will always be poor but one purse could go toward building real sustainable businesses that could employ poor folk. Instead some just buy super expensive items as if the function of a 2k purse is different from a 5$ sturdy cloth bag.

I live way out in the provinces near Badian. While we burn or bury our garbage, many just throw it down wherever they are. On the 150m walk from the road to where our houses are there must be thousands of COVID masks alone. The government can try all they want, but unless the people want their environment, and especially their home environments cleaner, it would be a useless proposition. I am making a little difference by educating my neighbours, and especially the children, who are far more trainable, as to the multiple negative implications of trash everywhere.
@poiqweee
@poiqweee 2 жыл бұрын
@@Kevins-Philippine-Retirement Spot on, Kevin. The issue is the ignorant, lazy people. The government is not responsible for how the people act. The people just don't care about their environment when they see no future. They just drink, partake of drugs, gamble, have sex, produce unwanted children, steal and search for food and shelter. Then the cycle repeats itself and gets increasingly worse.

Badjaos are not natives of Luzon or the Visayas. They are from the bottom south part of the Philippines, mainly in the island provinces of Sulu and Tawi-tawi. They moved to Luzon and the Visayas to search for livelihood. I think they are still part of the larger Moro ethic group.

There's really good news regarding that area. Mike Rama the mayor that just got re-elected has big plans for that place. SRP is going to be a major business / leisure spot in Cebu, with the new bridge done, investors are going to flood that area. That said, they're going to have to clean up the place at some point, and Mike Rama is already fast tracking plans for socialized housing and beautification of that area.
