BMW & Mini UK invited me down to try a few of their latest models, after trying the exciting Mini Cooper S Works 210, I figured it would be good to jump straight into the BMW M240i and compare them back to back.

Every small BMW with inline 6 is future classic.

Got mine last weekend (Esterol blue) . I agree, you can feel the greater mass and the ride is a little rigid compared to my previous 220D. I'm bedding the engine in slowly because it's new, although some will say you don't need to with modern cars. The new LCI display and I drive are a great improvement.

That rear camera view was pretty frikkin awesome

Great review again Joe. Picked my m240i up last week, coming from m235i. My new car feels to ride much better than the 235. Not sure if that is solely down to the adaptive suspension in the 240 that I specced (my old 235 had passive). I specced the adaptive this time round thanks partly to your reviews of the 240, so a big thank you for that. The engine in the 240 has so much more umph due to more torque in the B58 engine. It really flies! Gone manual again, and I love the slick gear box.

Is it weird that I watch your videos of driving an M240i in order to avoid putting miles on my new one and still get a bit of a fix? While all good, this one is my favorite because it has my color scheme. Cognac and White. I have xDrive though. Living in the Northeast US its a must for a daily. Your videos are, by far, the best of the bunch for this model. Like your M2 and M140i videos too. Keep up the excellent work.

The m240 and m235 look unreal with the full mperformance kit on it but without that it isnt head turning at all

I had an M135i and now have an M240i. What no one talks about is how good the views are compared to the 4 & 5 series which I recently drove. In the 4 & 5 the all around visibility is not as good as the M240i. You feel like you are surrounded by glass and have lots of light in the 2 series where the bigger cars feel more enclosed. I can confirm the car is rapid. Even I forget sometimes just how quick the car is until I put it in sports plus and hit the back roads.

I really like this spec, black interiors can get so boring. Nice classic Joe Oversteer moments!

I have a 2017 M240i and thoroughly enjoy it everyday. I like the interior of mine with the analog instrument cluster and the entire dash set up for that matter than the look of the new 2018. Which one do you prefer if you had the choice between the two?

I've owned a 240i for a year. Yup, it's awesome, just a great little sports car. With adaptive suspension it covers all the basses.

Hi Joe, Great collection of videos. Would you be able to get together a M235i and M3 (E92 - 4.0 V8) and do a back to back comparison with a "hypothetical" which would you spend your money on? I'm considering between the two, as a 2nd car for fun. And consideration of Noise, handling, DCT vs ZF, looks (especially the interior), "newer vs older with more miles", depreciation, running costs- tax, ins, services, etc. All factors for that bang for your buck (over a good few years). Price around £23-25k. Be great to see what you could put together and get your feedback and thoughts in a video. Cheers, Justin

Great vid, but if you are using it as a daily drive, the most important option (in my opinion) is the pronav, worth the money for sure, Busnav is a bit rubbish and year 2010.

Hi Joe - loving some of these videos but need your opinion. I currently have a Golf R and love it but they've dropped the three door option and also the manual gearbox so I'm toying with a BMW from the 2 series range. Here's the dilemma - an M2 manual from late 2016 with a manual and the M performance exhaust amongst other options or a nearly new M240i M Performance (one of 750 I believe!) with even more options and the 8 speed box? Both are pretty similar on price but I'm in something of a dilemma - you've driven both so I'd be interested on your opinion. Thanks!

Does that Mini 210 have the same b48 engine as the 220i/230i? 230i might be an interesting back to back comparison to the mini.

It’s a really fun review, it kind of makes me want one. I’ve been really tempted between this and the 140i but I’m not sure which one to go for!

What do you think about the 228i? They are really rare here in germany, because they almost cost the same as 235i with some extras and m package.. I only drove a 225d yet, but i think a petrol would be more fun :)

Does it short shift into 3rd because of the large amount of torque, or close ratio?

I've been tossing up between the Audi RS3 sedan and an M2 for a while. Haven't checked out the Audi yet. But I did walk into a BMW dealership yesterday. They had the M2 there but not the M240i. Let me tell you videos and photos don't do any cars justice. When I saw the M2 up close and personal it really is magnificent. Looks slick and mean. And with almost a muscle car vibe to it. It almost intimated me. The interior was beautiful aswell, however I feel for these reasons I think I'm gonna end up with the M240i. Not because of the price difference. Just the fact that I'm 30 years old and don't really want a car that turns heads. A car that says look at me. I got an M2. I don't really care about others think. I love cars and I'll buy a car for me, not for other people's attention. the M2 does that. I'm sure when I test drive it I'm going to be astonished by it. However I want the best of both world's. Something comfortable and relaxing as a daily driver, and the option to put in in sport mode with the ride stiffening up, and then driving like a dickhead. From all these reviews the M240i does just that. Ticks more boxes for me. Also being much more understated than the M2 is good. I know I'll lose some performance, however I'm not a track day guy. So having a car like an M2 which is essentially geared for tracks just doesn't seem to be worth it for me. Can't wait to get my new car. It will most likely be the M240i. Unless when I test drive the Audi I'm blown away by it. Audi just worries me. I here alot of stories with reliability of them. Even my mechanic told me to steer clear of Audi, they can be a nightmare. And that's something I really can't ignore.

Great video Joe. Loving these cars, but the prices are mental. With the costs of living increasing and the low pay scales across the board you see more and more new cars out there. PCP deals seem to be the standard these days, this might a big issue for us as a nation. You go into parts of Europe and the case is so different! Sorry of topic there.

I really want an m240i, but I want it with the M performance package, including the more aggressive front bumper, rear LSD, M sport exhaust, and nicer wheels. It's a hell of a package... Very hard to find!

Lovely car, not too sure about the interior colour 🤢 I am considering upgrading my M135i to the M240 in the near future. Currently have the manual but would love to change to the auto. I've always felt that the exhaust notes are lacking on the 135/140/240... My old man has a Mini Cooper JCW that sounds incredible next to my 135 :(

What about getting one in a manual? I'm on the verge of getting one of these but I've always always love a manual gearbox.. I know the high end sports cars must have a sport semi auto gearbox.. will this car feel any different at all in a manual?

rubbish with the 40k limit they have now. Cant get a decent spec including a pro nav so have to leave it out. went for HK, heated seats, PDC front and rear ( live in a city ) and mineral grey. to get a pro nav meant taking away the HK and heated seats for just a slightly bigger screen

Why would you compare a mini to a 240i? completely different cars in a completely different class to each other.

The centre screen looks so cheap, why don't they have a pop up like an Audi A3.

Should do a group test between an m3 vs a 335 vs m2 vs m240 vs m4 vs 440. I continue to think that in real world m3s and m4s are too focused and you can’t enjoy them as much as the others.
