this is an 18 minute video highlighting the Allentown, PA Fire Departments Engine company 4.
Allentown is Pennsylvania's third largest city with a population of over 106, 000 inhabitants.
Engine 4 is stationed at the Central Fire Station in center city and is one of 6 stations in the city. Engine 4 is one of 7 engines protecting the citizens of Allentown, 24 hours a day.
This episode, Engine 4 runs 7 calls in about 8 hours. Our cameraman will take you inside the station, shotgun in Engine 4 and will take a look at what a firefighter does in a typical tour on the 3rd platoon.
The 3rd Platoon is commanded by Battalion Chief Greg Scheirer. The captain of the shift is Mike Scheirer, and is the officer on Engine 4.
4 brothers work on this platoon out of the same fire house. Roger Scheirer, the youngest of 5 brothers, drives his brother, Greg in the what they call the Front Car.
Fred Scheirer, is the Fire Marshall on the 3rd Platoon. The fifth brother, Robert Scheirer, is the Fire Chief.

It usually shares the same name. IIRC here in KY they call it the Explorer FF program, but the technical name for firefighters in the Explorer program are Junior FF's.

+Breyden W the siren used other than the Q siren is a Code 3 V-Con.

Some states are starting what is known as an "Explorer" firefighter program, allowing youths 14-18 to join, but most (due to insurance reasons) will not permit them to go on calls, & if they do, they are not allowed to be directly involved with firefighter operations. Our FD has one junior, he is not permitted to go on medical calls, and is not permitted on the main scene of a fire or accident, only traffic detail.

Little Johnny here had to run 13 calls!! Try running that many calls 3 days a week for 25 years.

i have explorer where i am. age 15 for the boy scouts, we also have junior firefighters at 16. i just found this out lol, my dads a captain

Im a junior fighter (explorer) I learn all the same stuff you said. I have my CPR perment, I have to learn my tools and were they are, how to properly wear gear, how to work the trucks etc. They wont allow you to go on duty calls until your 16. Thats national regulations

You wouldn't get hired at the age of 14. MAYBE Fire Explorer but the nation wide regulation in the US which is federally required for all fire departments to follow created by the NFPA to sum it up you must be of or over the age of 18 to assist anyone medically or fire protection/prevention using Department Equipment whether personally or federally funded.

Good damn I hate the q. I mean, yes it is efficient at getting people's attention, but it is still very annoying. Especially when they decide to ride it on high half way to the scene.

Meaning your not a real firefighter, your a kid who wants to be a firefighter and happened to get on with the local FD as an explorer so you can learn this stuff before you actually go through the fire academy.

come on guys you need to be quicker you should of already had your gear on with in a minute and out the door heading to the call. I can tell most fire department like to take their time when responding since they don't care its someone house, etc
