Jordan, when I was in the 5th grade I had a wonderful teacher, and she had explained to us that she was going to retire at the end of the school year. After lunch everyday she would read us a chapter out of the L.I.W. collection. I remember, Little House in the Big Woods, Farmer Boy, & Little House on the Prairie. We all enjoyed listening to her read to us! Twords the end of the School year she told us that she was going to read a special letter to us. She told us that she had read to every class she had taught the stories from L.I.W. She wrote to Mrs. Wilder and told her this & thanked her. The Teacher walked up and down each aisle of desks reading the letter, Mrs. Wilder had written and sent back in reply. I do not remember one word that she read to us off her letter, I only remember me as a little girl looking up at my Teacher and thinking how lucky I was to have her! I wish I had kept in contact with her, but as a young girl we didn't think of things like that. This became one of my favorite memories & the teacher, my favorite through out my School years!!! Thanks so much for the vlog, Jordan, I appreciate the jogging my mind to a sweet memory, thank you!!! ❤️

What was your teacher's name? How long ago was this? Maybe you we can find her, even if she's gone from this world, you may be able to find her final resting place and lay flowers. I had a high school guidance counselor that was very influencial to me--Mrs. Fasold. She was my mother's guidance counselor too. She helped my mother through her teen pregnancy (with me) and was a tremendous support to her. She knew me before I was even born 🥲. Anyway, she was the picture of what a true guidance counselor does. Last year while visiting my hometown, I found her grave and laid flowers for her. I told her how much of an influence she was to me and that I'll never forget her. ❤

A really enjoyable and interesting visit. I like the idea of allowing you to explore on your own, it gives you the space to imagine what those past times must have been like. Also thought the museum worked really well as, although the exhibits were not personal to Laura Ingalls, they represented a home life that her writings celebrated. Many thanks Jordan and Katie.

To people who haven’t read the books, read them! I read the Long Winter again during the pandemic , a poignant book to read during that, at least we had creature comforts! During that long winter they had to twist hay & make sticks of hay to burn for heat & cooking. The books are fine for adults to read too. My college friend lived north of pepin, near Webster Wisconsin, and knew some Charles Ingalls family descendants!

I was born and raised in Wisconsin, so naturally I had more than one teacher read from, recommend, or assign a LIW book. But my 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Stauffer read to us from Little House in the Big Woods and a couple of other Little House books. And all that school year it was one of the things I looked forward to the most. My mom got me the set for Christmas that year, and I was over the moon! I've had the chance to visit Pepin and the cabin a few times. I live in the very southwest corner of the state. But I'm close to the Mississippi, so I just get onto highway 35 and follow it north. It's a stunningly beautiful drive.

My 4th grade teacher read aloud all of the books in the series over an entire school year. Some days only part of a chapter and some an entire one. I remember it was my first experience realizing how our minds conjure up images of the story whether reading a book ourselves or being read to.

I love your travels and videos! Thank you for showing all the Little House places! I have always wanted to go see them. In the cabin, you have to remember, People had wood chairs and benches to sit on a table and maybe a rocking chair. No sofas. They spent alot of time outside doing things too. My own mother who grew up on an old farm never sat on her sofa, always at the table on a wooden chair. I never thought about it, but it made sense, it was how she grew up. It is so interesting to see history and how we have changed. They really loved their books. My mom as a school teacher introduced me to the little house books 60 years ago when I learned to read. Safe travels!!

I would have loved to visit there. When I lived in Upstate New York in a small town called Ellenburg Depot, We lived in my grandfather's childhood home and farm. He had a wood stove and my mom would use it for cooking even though we did have a electric stove as well. My dad tried to make it a working farm. We had chickens and cats and dogs but we left and moved back to NJ.

I never read any of the books, but this makes me want to. Of course when the tv show began, it was unlike any other and many were interested because it was based on the books. In the pilot series, it tells their departure from the big woods and how they dealt with the indians and had to leave because it wasnt a safe place and i believe the first house was destroyed by prairie fire. i believe alsoat one point, they found out, the land did not belong tothe settlers or government anymore.

So is this the actual home, or is this one a re-creation? I didn't quite catch that part. If it is the actual home, it's in great condition. I toured Louisa May Alcott's home, which was magical. Those people didn't waste any space back then and stairs were VERY narrow (people were smaller too, I guess). It's in such a beautiful and historic town as well. Anyway, I never read the Little House books, but I grew up watching the show and it's one of those that whenever I watch it, it takes me back home (the 80s). I loved that show and have such fond memories watching it with my mother and sister. My father could never be bothered to watch it lol.

It's a reproduction. The show was cute but so far from the truth it's not even funny. Michael Landon knew what people, mostly women, would respond to, so the show is 100% his concept. Melissa Gilbert's autobiography "Prairie Tale" offers excellent insight.
@RRW276
@RRW276 10 ай бұрын
@@maryblaufuss7533 Oh gosh, I read all of those and most of them on day 1. Alison Arngrim's was great, but Melissa's was filled with all the good and juicy info. You're right, Landon knew when he had his shirt off in an episode it was huge ratings. And definitely far from reality or Laura's real story. In fact, I think Pa had some issues in real life, but don't quote me on that. He certainly wasn't London's Pa, I know that lol.
