The Borealis is one of the lightest, most breathable and most versatile softshell jackets in existence. Use it for mountaineering, walking, climbing, scrambling, walking around town, as a midlayer, as an outer layer; the possibilities are endless!

Love the Borealis. I lived in it all through the summer: and is still good as a windbreaker over a fleece in the colder months.

One came in the post for me today (a tour jacket - without the hood). You're right, the material is wonderful. Comfortable and stretchy. I have a feeling I will be living in this most of the time. Great review - as always. Cheers.

Thanks for the review, bought exactly the same, your size reflects mine so luckily safe to order one online (couldn't find a stockist in the Netherlands). Can't wait to try it out running, climbing and paragliding.

Got one of these recently and can agree it's brilliant, should have got something like this years ago! So nice to have a layer that keeps the wind and sun off, but doesn't cook you. Comfortable, fits nicely and really light and packable too. Works really well in cooler weather too coupled with a light fleece underneath. I was wearing it in the Lakes today actually and thinking how much I like it :)

I have this, I use it cycling a lot. My only complaint is that it doesn't come with a stuff sack and it can't be zipped into its own pocket, unlike the Rab Vital Windshell and other softshells like the Kinetic Plus. Although it does pack down very small.

@@trekitt 3 days after I bought my 2nd Borealis it got snagged off rocks and branches, at the end of the day prior to loading it to the wash, I thought there would be holes in it already (starting to get bummed), then I'm surprised there's none. Bombproof I may say! Bloody brilliant.

Hey, great videos- cheers! How would you compare this jacket to the Arcteryx Sigma SL Anorak? I'd expect the Sigma SL to be a bit more protective against wind/precip? Is the Borealis more breathable? Thanks.
@trekitt
@trekitt 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Sam, the Sigma is designed for climbing and is therefore tougher, more durable and generally more protective. The Borealis is lighter and therefore (slightly) more breathable and is best suited to less "vertical" activities. Thanks for watching. Paul.

I was looking for a windbreaker and came across the Rab Borealis (great video by the way). Which one would you recommend Rab Borealis or Patagonia Houdini for a windbreaker. I already have a softshell which is the Arc’teryx Gamma MX just need something lighter and more packable. Thank you

For the cold winter canadian rocky mountain days (-15 to -30), would you say this Borealis or the VR Summit, or other? Im also thinking that Id need to wear an active grid fleece underneath
@trekitt
@trekitt 6 ай бұрын
The VR Summit would be a better choice, but somewhat dependent on what it is you're up to in the Rockies. Great place for adventuring!

late to the game here but wondered if you guys, with you wealth of knowledge could help me. I'm looking for a midlayer to wear while climbing (rock) mostly bouldering and sport in both the Peaks and wintertime in Costa Blanca. I usually climb in just a short-sleeved tee and, if it gets a bit chillier/i'm in the shade, a 100 lightweight fleece. I'd like something a bit more techie though, with some more wind resistance, which I can leave on while climbing and then when stopping/belyaing. Is the Borealis a good fit? How is the abrasion resistance? Any alternatives you guys can think of?

I'm stuck between the Rab Borealis and the Rab VR Alpine Light Jackets. Can't decide which one to get.
@trekitt

Borealis has no insulation at all but a little more wind resistance whereas the VR Alpine Light has some insulation but less wind resistance. The latter is the 'faster moving' piece. Harry

Hi I'm wondering which of these Rab softshell jackets you would say is the most breathable between the Torque, Borealis and the Vapour Rise Alpine/Lite?
@trekitt
@trekitt 4 жыл бұрын
The Borealis will be the most breathable as it's quite a bit lighter and thinner; all three are very different though. The Torque is thicker, tougher and designed more for alpine climbing, while the Vapour-rise is warmer and almost feels like a lightweight insulated jacket once you're wearing it. Kind regards, Harry.

I have a large in most Rab jackets but I’m a 46” chest with a belly. My vr summit and xenair are large and fit perfectly. What shall I go for as it’s expensive for me to return items.
@trekitt

I'd say the Borealis isn't a million miles away from VR Summit in terms of fit. Paul wears a large in both as well, so I would probably suggest going with your usual size.

Can this be worn in winter right now in England? would it keep you warm just wearing that?
@trekitt
@trekitt 8 ай бұрын
The borealis can be worn this time of year and will certainly help keep you warm by cutting out most of the wind, but in itself is not a particularly warm jacket, but pop it on over a fleece and you should be good to go.

Ben has a +2 positive ape index at a height of 6'3" (same height as Paul) and gets on with the sleeves of the Borealis, if a tiny bit short when reaching overhead, so unless you're Mr Tickle you should be ok.

Does IT make sense to combine this With the Atom LT hoody?
@trekitt
@trekitt 3 жыл бұрын
To be honest, not really, and you'll probably struggle to get this over an Atom LT unless you size up. The Atom LT is more suitable when worn on its own, or, if it's absolutely tipping it down, with a hardshell over the top. Harry

@@trekitt Thanks for answering! When would u choose either one one over the other for a trip? I am in between buying one of theese bad boys. I already own a good amount of insulation peaces. I got a light weight and middeweigt technical fleece and my feather light down from montane i always keep handy. I was thinking the RAB would be a good option to add to my layering system to throw over the insulation Pieces to break wind and light water. Or would it be Better to just use the Lt atom as a stand Alone?
@trekitt
@trekitt 3 жыл бұрын
@@alexanderfriis1 If you're happy with your current line of insulated pieces than the Borealis will be fine to stick over the top provided your layers aren't too bulky. The Atom is about as water and wind resistant as the Borealis, so to wear both would be overkill, but the Borealis over something like a fleece which isn't water resistant at all makes sense.
