I am from Maputo and watching this video was so emotional and I thank you for bringing an open third person perspective. @3:50 The guy in the wheelchair, I knew him. His name is Fernando, I met him a long time ago and throughout the years my mom became friends with him. It all started by bringing him water and food whenever we saw him. Then my mom helped him out however she could, with electricity bills and everything. One day he told my mom he was going to be a father, he met this young girl that loved him and they eventually married. My parents went to his wedding and the wheelchair he has now was their wedding gift. Thank you for bringing me the memory of this sweet sweet man. I learned so much with him

I’m from Mozambique and this video is great. Maputo has really amazing places but so much of it is neglected and in dire poverty. I just noticed though that in this video there’s a lot of mistranslation and miscommunication, and to be clear she does NOT earn $1.68 a month, that was completely miscommunicated. Even from what she says afterwards about her bills $10+ monthly, it doesn’t make sense and frankly no one earns that much, and it’s impossible to live on that a month. Almost all really low-income earners earn atleast $1.58 a day(3000mts a month), so I firmly believe that’s what she was referring to.
@TheHamburgler123
@TheHamburgler123 11 ай бұрын
Thank you for clarifying. The UN defines "extreme poverty" as making less than $2.15/day, which approximately 9% of the world does. I knew there must've been some kind of mistranslation going on because $2.15/month doesn't make any sense whatsoever, even for the poorest countries on the face of the planet.

I thought that only Venezuela was like that. Venezuela is the most rich country in south America, with plenty of oil for everyone that makes them as rich as Saudi Arabia. Yet they voted for the wrong government and people don't get anything. All the money goes just to a few rich families. Venezuela is the number one capitalist country. All people poor, few people have all the money. Now I see Mozambique.. Ehm. So they have a lot of money for everyone but only few people get it and all the rest is poor . Another capitalist paradise. The people have to be really not intelligent if they serve a few rich people.

The first guy being interviewed was a paid actor. Full set of teeth and as sober as a priest. If he was smoking weed laced with heroin two hours ago from the interview he'd be asleep. Or he wouldn't understand the questions due to be heavily sedated. The "Black" Market isn't a black market. Black Markets aren't publicly available. That's not how it works. I'm sure there's loads more wrong with the video (haven't finished it) that I haven't seen yet. But this kiwi is a shiteater who's got a punchable face and vocals that deem him deserving of gang rape.

Portugal and Brazil, with their international influence, should push for this to change. But, for obvious reasons, Portugal has to be careful and cannot meddle in their domestic politics. Really breaks my heart to see that people live in this conditions. Um abraço a todos os irmãos e irmãs da CPLP.

People who know some of the painful things I’ve gone through in life sometimes send me messages of sympathy. I laugh and send them a video from you. Some panicked mothers and malnourished babies with flies on their faces. Beautiful women selling themselves and men so overwhelmed they abandoned their families. I don’t cry often but I usually do watching these videos. I wish I could adopt a whole village of these children. Lovely to see you back again on your travels. I hope your recent break has done you good and you've been able to process the horrifying and traumatic things you were witnessing previously in various places. We all learn so much about our world from what you do, and it's good that you provide opportunities for people to do a little bit to support positive initiatives in places we would otherwise never hear about. Bravo!

Great video as always❤️. I’ve been traveling to Brazil a lot over the past two years and have been studying Portuguese. I just recently learned that in Mozambique Portuguese was the language spoken and so seeing your video today it was cool hearing people speak and actually understanding them.

Small correction; Without context this quote is very false. Democracy in places where democracy is actual democracy is not a mirage (some corruption more or less will always exist in all countries, so that can be taken out of the equation), but in countries like Mozambique democracy is definitely a mirage.

Hey Nick! I’m from Brazil. I was missing your videos. Thanks for the return. Mozambique is a tipical country of Africa: beautiful Landscapes, but with many difficulties, especially regarding the government, but with tough and resilient people! It’s amazing to see they speaking the same language of us brazilians. Abraços do Brasil.

It's so sad when you have some random guy coming to your country and talk rubbish. So, the most important thing you saw here is poverty, crime, economic crisis and all sort of bad things. The saddest part is to see that you have a mozambican guide going along with the same agenda😮😢

I have been to Mozambique twice, once crossing from South Africa then from Zimbabwe. The first thing which comes to my mind is a huge corruption, even on the border crossing. This country is hell and heaven. You have places like north and Maputo, but you as well have beautiful beaches like in Tofo. Amazing country, it is a pity that it is in such a crappy situation. For us, Europeans even from former eastern block (Poland) it is unbelievable that such a poverty is possible.
