Just bought my ticket to go see this movie tomorrow. Ava has been doing a lot of self promotion for Origin, and in every interview, I've grown to appreciate and respect her as a director, story teller and all-around great human. Can't wait for what I already know is going to be an amazing experience.

That's what "she says" she does....and I don't have any reason to doubt her, but what do you think she's going to say?? The only way to truly know how people such as her behave is to be ON SET. There simply is no other way. I've seen a too much and know better, BUT, as I said at the onset, I have no real reason to doubt her word.

This interview was so pivotal! Was just thinking last night about how western culture has glorified the “need” to be better than everyone else. People have this desire to be better or get all credit for being the best when none of us is more valuable than the next person in reality. Racism did its full work in society. And truth tellers like AD must be supported and protected. 👏🏽

I went to see the movie on Sunday, I went alone too. There were moments when I cried and could feel the grief and pain of the character played by Aunjanue Wills-Taylor. This movie is moving and soul shiting. It is deep and heavy...it stayed with me for two days. Please support this movie, it is groundbreaking and thought-provoking.

I love African-American women like Ida B Wells, Isabel Wilkerson, Ava Duvernay, Nicole Hannah Jones, Michelle Alexander, Melissa Victoria Harris - Perry (formally known as Melissa Victoria Harris - Lacewell, is an American writer, professor, television host, and political commentator), with a focus on African-American policies and politics (Who has made a positive difference for us all to follow and emulate). You all make me a proud African-American, and spark much Joy in me and many others, and make the world a better place to live in for us all and future generations! I loved Isabel’s masterpiece book “The Warmth of Other Suns”. Her book “Caste” did not get the recognition it deserves because it cuts too close to the bone concerning what BIPOC lives with in the USA Today. Think You, Ava Duvernay for making the deserved recognition happen for Isabel Wilkerson. God bless you for being so wonderful, brilliant, and vivacious! You made my KZfaq playlist and day. You have a golden heart and soul! God has truly blessed you abundantly! And you are a blessing, all of us with your gifts and talents!

Dr Ambedkar first articulated caste inequality in Indian society. He was of the opinion that nothing can build on the foundation of caste. On the other hand, he worked for the 'annihilation of caste' because he believed that anything that is built on caste is going to create inequality within.Making sincere efforts, he tried to put an end to the evil practice of untouchability through constitutional provisions. contribution towards the eradication of social evils like untouchability through constitution needs to be seen as an effective means of ensuring an equal future for the coming generations.

Thanks, but I would rather read the book. I appreciate you guys letting me know the book exists. Prefer that over any treatment or watering down Hollywood will give. No offense to the director.

You can do both; read the book and see the movie. "Origin" is independently produced by Ava Duvernay, so that it would not be watered down. AD walked away from Netflix as a producer for Origin that very reason. No offense to your comment.

Good call out. I read Caste (and listened to the audiobook) and saw the movie. I think all of those mediums are a perfect pairing to give way to gaining understanding from an informative context to a more familiar and current application of the concepts explored in the book. The movie helps people to apply cryptic concepts in a meaningful and measurable way based on occurrences happening NOW. This is an adaptation of the book and focuses not only on the content but on the author as the center character and protagonist which adds a missing layer that the book doesn’t possess. Also, this isn’t a Hollywood movie--this is a self produced work with the assistance of philanthropists who are aligned with her mission; thus, there isn’t a dilution of the story, steering away from the truth, or a focus on gimmicks. If you know Ava’s work, then you know her cultural and professional integrity remains intact in everything she does.

@kennethlgabriel for example if you watch the trailer with no prior knowledge, you would think the book was a biracial love story...clearly that's not what it is, but that is the impression the trailer leaves most with....to me it seems she is not as removed from Hollywood story telling methods as you think.

Mike uses too many words to ask questions. He needs to tighten it up so that it doesn't become about him instead of the guest.

I’m a verbose person and don’t think Mike was too wordy. I think he was as concise as needed but he understood that he needed to provide context that was more for the listeners versus the audience. His questions were similar in length to the woman interviewer (not sure of her name) I think sometimes it’s okay to speak conversationally in an interview versus aimed questions.
