I pray that Mr. Pele has found tremendous success well before then In sha allah, but when I move back to Nigeria in a few years I will offer him full employment. I will reach out to him now to see what little I can do for him. These guys is why I could tolerate living in the US for over 30 years, their music keeps me going.

May Allah grant SAB Al Janah Ameen 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 may Allah be with Alhaji Pele and the rest of SAB'S backup singers and instructmentalist Ameen 🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾🤲🏾. It's very easy to get lost in ATL airport even for a well travelled individual that airport is ginomous, a mother with infants should never travel through that airport alone because one can die of exhaustion. Even people should be weary of travelling through the airport Because it's like times 5 of London Heathrow from immigration to exit.

It would only be fair if you let us know the outcome of your further research on this by interviewing many other band members of great musicians of that era if this payment was or wasn’t the industry standard back then. The respected Pa. Tajudeen Pele is so sharp with the way he answered most of the questions because judging by the way he was asked by the interviewer, it would have been easier for him to paint Alhaji SAB black. Kudos to Baba Pele with the way he handled this interview. By the way, even most white collar jobs professionals earned average of about #300 per month top around 1990’s and despite these band members not working full time, the average salary according to this man was around #220 and some even up to #500 per month which was perfectly ok as at then, now imagine if this man was actually referring to 80’s which were the years he was actively involved according to him; so it wasn’t a bad wage by all standards as at then. And which employer wouldn’t hold their employees’ passports if they travelled out unless the employer is into trafficking or leaving loopholes for workers to abscond? And I just respect this man more with the way he answered why the passports were not given to them whenever they were in Nigeria because it’s totally correct that they would have used the passports for “arrangee” (for those that know what that means back then before the advent of biometrics passport, lols). This man earned more respect from me now than ever before with his handling of the situation. He even substantiated his points with his reference to that his admirer “Iya Jelili” that first told him there was no chance of receiving financial help when he lost his wife and dad, so, he understands things the way they were, rather than the way many of us are viewing it now. And it also clearly shows in his expressions that he enjoyed all the trips outside the country; a rare situation many people would have sacrificed anything for back then. I’m sure he looks back at his time and never regrets his time with Alhaji SAB.

Though i just watched this interview today, I don't see this interview in the view of the interviewer having hidden plans. About two months ago, I listened to the narratives of a band member of an high life musician recounting the experience he had as a band boy; he never had anything then. He said majority of them were not living responsible lives. He retreated like this man and then went to university. Today, he is very much happy and also thanked God on the programme that he left when he left. What i am trying to say is that there are many lessons to learn there. From this man's narratives, a lot of people will learn and examine when to take good decisions in their lives.
@morufyusuf

The lesson in the interview is not to be carried away by simple fame your employer give you,you simply need to plan your own life,Barrister may have his own fault but the man is to be blame,their engagement does not have a define pattern,they simply work and forget themselves,.The band leaders then cannot possibly take care of their members due to large families they keep

It kind of sounds like the interviewer have an agenda to defame Barrister. I don't understand why he wants to know if Barrister built a house or bought him a land. The guy was happy for the way he took care of his kids to the best of his abilities while he was with Barrister. Not sure if Barrister was the best person to work for or not but I don't think he could build houses or buy cars for his then band members.

What's the motive behind this interview? This interview is so stupid. These musicians were not making that much money back then. The little they make gotta be distributed among about 30 band boys, managers, packers, etc. And they don't go to show everyday or every weekend. As we heard, they blank out for months before they get a show sometimes. People automatically assume band boys of a popular fuji musicians should be living large, no they don't make that much. If you go to Kollington band boys, it's gonna be the same story. The lucky musician that's making good money now is Kwam1. Yet, some of his boys will still have a complain or 2 too.

They were fairly paid at the time. N110 for two is about N220 a month. Some graduates salary then for a month was N250. It is not everyone that can manage his / her financial affairs well. While some with the same income will build house, it may not be the priority of others. You can not because of that, blame it on the employer. This why some employers this days arrange arrange cooperative, employment benefits management schemes for their employees.

First of all, the interviewer is dumb. If he actually does not have any intention of casting Barrister in bad light, then he is not only amateur but also dumb. There is no point nudging the gentleman to disclose most of the information he talked about; they serve absolutely no purpose. But not every listener is as dumb. The man may not have built house or bought car but we all understand music back then is not what it is today. These pple , Barrister inclusive have more popularity than wealth. U think Barrister was rich enough to build house or buy car for each band member? Go to all the superstar in the last decades (KSA, Obey,Kollington, Salawa, Obesere) and tell me how many of them built houses for their members He also talked about holding his passport, any reasonable person that take u to oversea for a purpose will hold ur passport otherwise u will flee. Only makes sense. I’m not here to claim that Barrister took the best care of members of his band cause I wasn’t part of . However, this interview does not conclusively show that he did not take care of them. The gentleman definitely is not so happy with some of the events, but he shows maturity in his account; the interviewer immaturity was on wide display

Unfortunately, this interview came after Barrister had left the scene - died. There are so many missing links. When was he being paid the money he mentioned here? As at 1980 and beyond, Grade Two teachers and High School graduates earned about N90 a month. Moreover, at a point in time, band boys were part timers who went for rehearsals after their daily job or weekends. Anyway, only Barrister could justify his behavior. But for balance, this TV station should look for some other band boys of Barrister for interviews. I know Barrister lived large, but did what he did then compensatory? Was it the standard in the industry? Was Uncle Pele just reckless with money, because it’s not unusual for band boys to go on drinking spree and womanizing? We need to know more. This interview puts question marks on the character of the late Fuji legend. Again, I urge this TV station to reach out to other members of the Barrister group for clarification or confirmation. On passport, Barrister did the right thing, an escape by any of his band boys might cost him other trips, that is, might be denied visa consequently. He’s not a human trafficker. He was into genuine business and not an “arranger”, otherwise, he would have got Pele’s visa by all means when he was denied one in 1997.
