From an adventurous balloon ride above the clouds to a monster-filled metropolis, Academy Award®-winning director Pete Docter (“Monsters, Inc.,” “Up”) has taken audiences to unique and imaginative places. In Disney•Pixar’s original movie “ Inside Out,” he will take us to the most extraordinary location of all-inside the mind.
Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it's no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions - Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley's main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.

I love how they show that Riley's emotions are uncontrolled while her parent's are settled. You can see anger takes control of dad's emotions and sadness of mom's but they all work as a team and aren't exaggerated as much as Riley's . Shows how as you grow you learn to handle your emotions.

Disney could EASILY make an Inside Out 2! It could take place a few years later with Riley being much older and discovering what love is! Thus the new emotion "LOVE" appearing in the headquarters causing conflict with all the other emotions.

I love how the adult emotions are working together simultaneously and Reilly's emotions are more independent. I think this is because as we grow older we gain more control on our emotions but when younger these emotions come out of no where some times

I like how, when the girl says "School was great, okay?", the Fear character says "What was that? I thought we were supposed to act casual!" I think it represents what it's like inside of a growing mind because they try to not have an attitude, but you're upset for no reason and feeling sassy for no reason but you feel bad afterwards because you don't mean to overreact. I don't know, I really like that part.
@Melcat96

I don't see Riley's Joy & Sadness. Perhaps they were busy and left Anger, Disgust & Fear in charge, which is probably why Fear reminded Disgust that they had to act casual.

It seems as though each adult is guided by a different emotion. Mom is guided by sadness, Dad is guided by anger and fear. We see in the adults an ability to regulate and exert control over their emotions. When we look into the kid's mind however, we see no order or hierarchy as to how each emotion handles the situation, much like how children are unsure of how to handle their emotions in a responsible manner, a skill that comes with age. Idk. I'll be able to make a full analysis of the movie once I see it.

Notice how dad's anger seem he has more control and know what he's doing. He even need the keys from every other emotion to "put the foot down". While Ryley's anger just went out of control, suggesting that as people grow more mature they can manage their emotions better. No? oh then maybe it's just me...

Pixar actually comes out with an interesting and new concept and people tear it apart because they projected their own biased opinion of what it "means" onto a 2:00 minute trailer for a kids movie. Gee, I can't wait for every single movie to follow the exact same bland, family-friendly-to-the-extreme-so-as-not-to-offend-anyone, unadventurous formula because people can't open their minds enough to enjoy an original concept for a Pixar movie. And all because someone was able to stretch their ideals thin enough to accuse this movie of injustice.

Seriously, why are people so up tight about gender stereotypes right now? Its a Joke. Its meant to be funny. I don't see, personally why thats such a big deal. I mean if my little girl likes dolls, Im good. If my Son likes Sports, I'm OK with that. And vice versa. I'm not going to force my kids to be something they are not just to deter from gender rolls. Same goes for this movie. I don't care what people think gender rolls should be, I'm just going to take it as a joke and move on.
@aeris44

People forget what the definition of satire means or how to tell when a movie is taking that approach. Obviously the little girl with both genders in her brain shows she isn't like her parents. I support equality of all types and open-mindedness but some people are so quick to attack thinking they are automatically correct cuz they're supporting a good cause.

Ramberta I understand your point of view but your aiming in the wrong direction. Its very obvious (well not to all) that the mom and dad are stereotypes since they have the same gendered creatures in their head while the girl has both genders, making her a more well-rounded character than her straight parents. She's obviously the main character and its most likely a coming of age story.

What I like most is how the Parent's emotions have matured. Mom's Sadness has evolved to become the more compassionate and sympathetic one as she takes the role of support in the family. Dad's Anger (while less prone to outbursts) has become more focused, and takes control of the matter at hand as he's the 'leader' of the Family. Nice touch there Pixar.

Wow the amount of spam is ridiculous... And I'm really tired of seeing how men and fathers are portrayed as absolute idiots who think of nothing but sports and women (but when women think about other men its completely fine). It really pisses me off the double standard of sexism. What are we showing our kids? Your father is an idiot and a brute and only exists to inseminate women. Its annoying. However, because I know the onslaught of feminists/trolls/random youtube haters is coming, I will admit I am pleasantly surprised about the concept. The first trailer I saw looked like they couldn't really take it anywhere, but this genuinely looks interesting.

kipolem53 There's a well known song in Cars 2? You did miss a couple, though. Most people are also quite familiar with "You've Got a Friend in Me" from "Toy Story", and at least semi-familiar with the song from "Brave" ("Touch the Sky"). When I saw World of Color in Disneyland, there were several people around me singing along with "Touch the Sky". People love showstoppers, though, which generally only come from the traditional, musical style Disney movies. One thing's for sure, I don't believe either a song or a movie has been quite so wildly popular as "Frozen" since "The Little Mermaid" almost thirty years ago.

That's a common gendered trope used mostly for comedic purposes. I'm also a little bit sick of it. In action films, though, it's pretty common to see a dumb woman (usually blond) and a smart man. But maybe the father was just casually distracted; we don't know if he's dumb. It's just a short trailer.

This movie is gonna be sad. The moms main feeling is sadness. The dads main feeling is anger. And the child doesn't have a main feeling because she's a kid and she can control her feelings. Their not eating a cooked meal. Or their food isn't on plates. Their eating right out of Chinese take out boxes. (Which is supposed to show a "broken" family type thing). The mother regrets marrying her husband and wants to marry that Brazilian guy. I feel like this movie is gonna cover either A. Divorce. Or B. Family issues. I mean, Disney already went through miscarriages. Their good at covering sad bad things for kids and adults. I feel like this movie (I hope) is going to open peoples eyes about how to fix marriages or family problems. And how to deal with your emotions.

Lol seriously. It's a cartoon, there's a long history in animation of using broad caricatures to poke fun at cultural stereotypes. I mean, how about we wait and see the movie before we decide this is in any way harmful to society. It's Pixar, they more than likely will have something pretty moving and intelligent to say about how we think and feel.

I love the intricate little details they put into this idea. First, it's cool how the mother's emotions all share her hair, and the dad's share his mustache. Also, I like how the parents' emotions work as a team, while the daughter's don't co-operate very well, due to adolescence probably. Plus, the mother's command emotion being sadness and the father's being anger is pretty straight on.

So the mom's emotions were all female and the dad's emotions were all male, whereas the girls were both male and female. Is she going through a gender identity crisis? [Not trying to be offensive]
@ibarraclaudia92
@ibarraclaudia92 9 жыл бұрын
The girl is not fully mature so she has emotions from her mother and father.... As you can see the leader in her mother's emotions is "sadness" (basically because that's the emotion she uses the most) who can blame us women huh, were just crybabies... And the leader in the fathers emotions is "anger" (because that's the emotion the dad uses the most) men are jerks most of the time... And the girls emotion leader is "Joy" (due to children being happy most of the time)....the girl isn't fully developed so she has sadness and disgust from her mom ( typical women emotions) and "anger" as well as "fear" from the father these are divide emotions from both the parents as what to the mother and the father use the most.. Once the girl is fully developed and mature the emotions will form into her own personality... Hope this helps😊

Well looking at her and her school environment, it looks like she's in elementary school. She's developing her personality so it would make sense that she has both attributes from her mom and dad. I mean when you're a kid, you're still growing your stuff.
@thegirlleastlikelyto

I don't think the mum and dad's emotions are actually all the same gender; they're just all in 'uniform' to suit the adult- so for example, Anger is still a male in the mothers mind, but he's got a wig and glasses on to show how now the mother is older her emotions are better balanced and working together, in a way.
@2b-coeur
@2b-coeur 9 жыл бұрын
Claudia Ibarra Oo, thanks! I was wondering the same thing myself... I am also reading everything I can find on the movie, trying to wait until I can see it, and someone said that as Riley matures her emotions will become more complicated- for example, sadness will change to empathy etc. Right now as she's a child her emotions are very pure and straightforward, but with an adult... So Sadness being in charge for the mom might mean she easily understands others- this is seen already- and is perhaps prone to negativity. Anger for the father might mean he's more direct, perhaps acting quickly without thinking too much...? and that he has a bit of a temper. I'm guessing and hoping that Joy will continue to be in charge for Riley.

Why does the mom have all female emotions, but Riley has a mix, of emotions from the dad and mom, and a new "preppy", and stuck up green female emotion? The dad has all male emotions? Are they suggesting that emotion types are genetic? Or are the emotions depending on personalities gained from experiences, and hormones? Can emotions change forms after time? This is all very confusing or I am over-thinking this.

Or maybe mom and dad have had a longer life span to settle in their lives and all their emotions have finally synced up? Notice how dad's fear was barely afraid, his anger was barely angry, and the mom's were pretty much all on the same wavelength whereas Riley is still a child and thus far more ruled by her emotions than an adult, having a wider range. Or maybe Pixar realized that having 6 main protagonists all be the same gender would get boring?

Also, I noticed that the mom's main emotion was sadness, and the dad's main emotion was anger, which I think will mean a lot in the story. I'm really glad that that pixar is stepping their game up, this is probably going to be one of the best movies they've done in a while. Also - I saw someone talking about how they were eating take out food instead of home made food, and I didn't realize it at first but they're right, it is a symbol of a broken family. Not Really, those are emotions, So the little girl and the parents actually acted the way they wanted to act. It's basically showing how the emotions take over us when we act. For example, the red one that controls the little girl to get pissed of is Anger. So anger is taking over her. And what the emotions are saying, are what the characters are feeling or thinking. And btw Pixar made this movie.

Heck even monsters inc. a real monster civilization that gets it's power by using a door way to teleport to a kids closet door and scare them for energy. Even if it is to supply then with electricity it's still a creepy idea.

Aside from the clichéd male stereotype, I applaud Disney’s disturbingly accurate portrayal of the new American "woman!" After realizing that the magical link between mother and daughter is a lie told by mother's and grandmother's to get their kids to give them grandchildren, the woman tries to disguise her inept ability to deal with her daughter's problems by getting the 'support' of her husband. She expects him to read her mind but because she has no plan the man finds nothing in her mind to read. When his solution is nothing she can take credit for, she ignores the responsibility of dealing with her daughter’s issues by going back to daydreaming about a life of imagined romance with another man. Scathing social commentary for adults, colorful funny creatures for kids! Disney does it all!

Has anyone tried comparing the old trailer with the new one? In the first teaser we got an introduction to all of the emotions, all of whom exist in all of the characters heads (except for joy?). The leader in the wife's head is sadness, while the leader in the husband's is anger. The daughters leader? She doesn't have one yet. This might represent her 'developing' mind or whatever, but there is no way of knowing anything for sure :P

***** And now looking at it again, I see the joy in the adults heads as well. Just not the main focus like the sadness and anger are.

Finally after 3-4 years of ho-hum pixar releases it looks like we could possibly get back to the golden age of what made Pixar original, endearing and memorable ... I love the originality of the concept of this movie (like Monsters Inc.) and the trailers so far do not disappoint

Interesting, both parents have brown hair and brown eyes, yet the girl has blond hair and blue eyes. Also, I wonder who voices the dad's Anger, it kinda sound like Buzz Lightyear, but I doubt it's actually him. Still, that voice sound familiar.

Actually, depending on the genetics; hair becomes darker as they grow older. For example; a blonde girl may start to change hair colour in their teens to becoming a dark brownish-blonde colour, eventually may become into a full brunette...? I- I think? That's how hair genetics can go... right?

Just re-watched the trailer, and you can actually tell that her hair is becoming more brownish... ish.

Emman Pascual The hair I get it, but, then there's the eye color. I guess one could assume that one side of the family had blue eyes further back.

IamDragonFury yeah it might be a recessive trait,both of the parents at one parent with blue and the other brown, so they both carry the blue gene

Brilliant concept xD Have a feeling the movie will touch a chord with all age groups and not just kids. :D Though Im curious to see how they can keep the viewers interested in the "emotions" gimmick without it becoming mundane a little while into the movie. Cant wait to watch this one :D

So far anybody who has seen early screenings of this have loved it. With many saying it is one of Pixar's best, and you can't get higher praise than that really. It's supposed make you laugh and cry in abundance. I'm really looking forward to taking my daughters to see it.

they spent 4 years learning everything they could about human brains, behaviors and emotions just for this movie. it's not sterotypical, it is actually based off of thousands of different people and how they live.
