Yes those are both DPL (Dual Purpose Ladders) but specifically at Paddington (as with all 2 pump stations) they are set up as a Pump Ladder and a Pump. In this case the first one to pull out was the Pump Ladder and the 2nd was the Pump.

Noticed recently that this alarm sound is being used on a TV car advert. Every time it comes on I can imagine many an off-duty LFB firefighter thinking they've got a shout!

Sadly the LFB Have no retained firefighter along with WMFRS The only ones in the UK

Allegedly retained firefighters and off duty firefighters are two very different things off duty ff’s means exactly that they are not on duty and will not respond to call outs the non retained firefighters usually don’t have a pager whereas retained ff’s will be at home or a full time job (within five minutes of the station) with a pager nearby ready to leave at a moments notice should the pager go off It’s easier to think of them as career firefighters and on-call firefighters but yes I agree it is sad that lfb and wmfrs don’t have retained crews as we are a huge asset for the brigades especially in areas where staffing a full time station would be impractical

@@allegedly8931 not just WMFRS, Here, SYFR (South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue) Has retained firefighters.

The theory behind it is that if you're asleep it's better to wake up to that than be jolted awake by a ringing bell or klaxon
