Today 798 stands as the epicentre of China’s contemporary art landscape. Over 200 galleries, countless stores and cafes gathered here, making it the Beijing version of SoHo district in Manhattan. It was first built in the 1950s as a military factory. Around 2002, artists slowly took over the place when it was on the verge of closing. From 2005 to 2009, I witnessed the ‘renaissance’ of 798 while living in Beijing. Today I am here to revisit the area, hoping to find some traces of the good old 798 spirit.

Amazing video as you covered art...and the art world differently than others. Interesting how the movement from artists attracting followings and then having to relocate seems a universal system, unfortunately for artists.. I'll check out your article, etc. Definitely anticipating the next video.

I watch all of your videos and it's amazing how some people in the west are brainwashed into thinking that creativity is stifled / censored / whatever over there, just absurd. Every art zone / museum / gallery you have showed (and the sheer quantity of venues! omg), is on par with the so called "art capitals" like Berlin or NYC, a truly vibrant scene! Can't wait to visit and participate.
