Salvatore "Sammy The Bull" Gravano

3 жыл бұрын

Sammy paints us a vivid picture of the harsh living conditions he experienced at the ADX Supermax in Florence, Colorado. He opens up about the insanity of the inmates, the brutality of the guards, and extreme loneliness he felt during his six years in the hole.

@@stephendacey8761 another thing is we always worked out in our cells in plain view daily. Pushups, situps, and pullups. They never really bother with you if they see you have your routine. If you have a routine and your just towing the line it's no big deal. Easy ride. The loneliness is what gets you in there. I could care less about the other inmates and/ or sharks. The loneliness is horrible. Been in the hole a few times and it was just insane. You can literally hear the clock down the hall tick and seconds feel like minutes and there is nothing you can do. You can either beat your head against the wall, or go nuts. No windows, no connection to reality and half the time there is no hot water. Even in that condition when the hot water heaters are broken it's absolutely horrible. Made my stay 10 times worse. You get out and you push the wall of your shower because you forgot your home. You have to keep hitting a little steel button to keep the shower running for 10 seconds a push. When you get out you start pushing the wall in your own shower.

I watched Gravano's video where he described the federal "supermax." His comment about the "Alcatraz of the Rockies" may seem difficult to believe, but Sammy is 99% accurate. As a former warden at the penitentiary, I agree that the ultra-secure environment is not humane and provides a setting that goes far beyond needed. If given a choice to be sentenced to life at the ADX or the death penalty --- doing time at the "supermax" would be a far worse penalty. Soon the federal death penalty will be discontinued (later this year). More inmates will be housed at this prison in Colorado instead of being put to death. Don't assume incarceration at this location would be better than the death penalty. Gravano was able to handle time at the prison --- many don't. Bob Hood (Warden - Retired. 2005)
