I always found it interesting how, without the gas tube, how roughly and chaotically the piston head travels back into the gas block and still maintains it's famous reliability.

@@giordy1662 what you're saying makes perfect sense. Since it's flat it has all that space to catch air and pull it back. If it were angled more like the tip of a bullet it would be more aerodynamic, maybe enough so that it wouldn't work unless you had the gas tube on. Again just another speculation.

TheDarkFalcon well youre not gonna hear that much over the actual shot. its a means of enhancing the other sounds you would naturally hear in the action. it did go slightly over the top on this one compared to the first but not in such a bad way.

The AK is truly an amazing piece of art, for me nothing even comes to close to the design. I love my 7.62 and 5.45. I really enjoy the content on the Russian weapons especially the AN94, AEK971, and the AK-100 series such unique weapons that are not very popular, its nice to see you bring them to the public's eye!

Polymer weights less. Also using polymer allows the ability to put rails and the gun doesn't get as hot as with wood and steel. Also plastic is cheaper nowadays. Even Russians switched to polymer

I just came across the AK74 of these videos yesterday, and the M4 and AK47 today. Love these videos, and like Konstantine said below.. the soundwork you guys did on these vids is amazing. Anyone reading this who shoots an AK (I own an Arsenal SLR-104FR) are you just as stupified while watching how much this rifle flexes not knowing how much each bullet weighs and how much powder is in each cartridge but can still shoot a 4 inch group at 100 meters? Scorcery!!

right on.. the AK fulfils it's role perfectly.. it doesn't pretend to be something it's not.. that's why it's so popular. sure we would all like a 3lb rifle that shoots 3000rpm with 1/8th Moa accuracy. zero recoil and 2 mile range and 200 round ammo capacity... but that's not feasable.. the AK is like a truck.. it's job is to haul shit.. so that's how it was designed..it ain't pretty but it moves weight. some guns are like crossover style vehicles.. it's kinda a car. and kinda a truck.. and it'll do both jobs..kinda ok but not great.. people need to understand that before they diss the AK for looks and accuracy

Right on. For many, many years (22.5 years in the US Army) I was an M16A1/A2 guy and I crossed over to the dark side about six years ago and now I am a devoted AK-74 guy. I can't take credit for this but I heard someone compare the two rifles like this; think of the M-16 as that beautiful woman in a black dress that you can take anywhere. Think of the AK as the dirty hooker that will do anything you ask her to do. That pretty much sums it up in my opinion.

women isn't a good analogy. It's more like a horse. One is to make sure the job's done and it doesn't die. Another is to make your friends jealous because you have one. Untill they all get same but it may be that the day comes when you will be the only guy who still got a living horse while the other's don't and then your friends realize the real value of things. This gun was created by nation which paid a great price of war by tens millions of lives. The gun must shoot to kill whatever happens while there are still arms to hold it, because you defend the future of next generations.

Served with an AK-74M in the Russian military.Other than that I fired an old AKMS,and I can tell you it is magic.We always joked how we had the most modern weapons which were supposed to be better but the enemy is using our old rifles and they are still beating us.Most of those rebels had zero knowlege about firearms and still managed to hit us dangerously close from roughly 500 meters with old Soviet rifles from the 50s.

I hope you know the slow motion of this video is on Wallpaper engine and people can use it as their desktop background, audio and all. And it's fricking amazing I'm so glad you guys made this.

The bolt cycling reminds me of vintage typewriters. Parts over engineered for their intended purpose... as only a fine machine. Simple, yet so much time in thought and design. Like the Uzi, simplicity and function are paramount. Awesome job on the photography. Incredible; those guys need a raise.
