After taking a 24 hour train ride from Moscow we arrived in Rostov on Don, the capital and largest city in southern Russia. Rostov is one of Russia's most famous cities and known as the 'gateway to the Russian causcasus'. We arrived for 2 days with Julia's brother and sister from Moscow on our route back to Sochi. Lets check out Russia's southern capital 🇷🇺

Hi from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 I stayed in Rostov over 20 years as a friend was doing some volunteer work with the Salvation Army. We had an amazing time and met some of the friendliest people I have ever encountered. It’s lovely that so much has been upgraded as well in the years since my visit. I am sure we went to some massive statue on the city outskirts? It’s was incredible

My hometown, or how we say “little motherland” :) I live in the UK since the age of 12, but I retain very warm and fond memories of Rostov. As Russian Brit, who recently returned from her first motherland trip of the last 10 years, the city pleasantly surprised me. Hope you enjoyed the Don capital and thanks for a surprising visit to such an underrated part of Russia, that shows your truly open-minded and culturally appreciative mindset!

This is the South of Russia, there are no extreme cold here, for example, Sochi is subtropical. Rostov-on-Don is located not much to the north of Sochi. In Moscow and even St. Petersburg, which is called the Venice of the North, there are also no extreme temperatures in winter, frosts are not so common there, and in winter there is even a plus temperature. Extreme temperatures are much further north, and in Siberia too, in the north. The cold zone is Oymyakon in Yakutia, the temperature in winter there can drop to minus 72 degrees Celsius. This is considered an extreme temperature, and Rostov-on-Don is the south, there is not even snow there, and the summer is very hot, although in Siberia the summer is also hot, above 30 degrees.

My god this place is so dear to me. I was born and raised in Russia Rostov-on-Don. My grandfather worked at an old red brick factory that actually was made of red bricks like the one in your video. That’s where we lived to in the town where the brick factory was. Back in 1994 my parents decided to move our family to USA Florida so that we could be with the rest of our family. We haven’t gone back yet to visit. I know I’m ashamed to admit that we haven’t been able to find a way to go back for a visit even though it’s already been 30 whole years since we left Rostov on Don. It’s not that we don’t want to, it’s because we’re always dealing with some problem as a family. Also because there are always babies born, or pets that are too attached for us to leave them with someone while we go to Russia. There are other reasons, but we have always wanted to go and still do. One day definitely we will gather ourselves together and go. Thank you for this video

thanks for such a sweet video, shedding light on Rostov! people living here can have conflicted feelings about this city, some just actively dislike it, but i believe it has some great things to offer. and it's always nice to see foreigners exploring Russia beyond its two main capitals. much love and respect for that! to everyone travelling to Rostov, i highly recommend taking a stroll through Nakhichevan-on-Don, part of Proletarskiy district. it's a former Armenian town that now still has a sweet nostalgic feel to it, mostly cosy streets and old one-two storey houses. it's about a 30-minute bus/trolleybus ride from the centre, and then you're free to just walk aimlessly for hours, taking in the atmosphere of that place. I feel like it's the best way to experience it

Aaaah, the glass train cups! They've stopped giving those out in Ukraine and are just using disposable paper ones (though the providnitsa still carries it in the metal frame, which she takes back). These are not cookies, these are SYRNIKI - a delicious fried product made from cottage cheese. You should definitely try it if you come to Russia!

Oh guys! You missed something special in Rostov-on-Don! There is a special place in our city where you can get only through friends. This is a collector's house, where thousands of artifacts from the Soviet and pre-revolutionary period are collected. There's a lot to see! If you will visit Rostov-on-Don again , I highly recommend it! (P.S. There's even a mock-up of a German airplane on the roof)
