In 2016, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES), banned the trade of African Grey Parrots. African Grey Parrots are one of The most intelligent and most traded wildlife species in the world, that should receive the highest level of protection in Nigeria, as they are listed under the First Schedule of the Endangered Species Act.
This week on Go Wild, ARISE Environmental Correspondent Laila Johnson-Salami, takes us inside the illegal trade of African Grey Parrots - a trade that appears to be widespread, not just in physical markets but also across online marketplaces.

I'm so glad someone is covering this. I avidly support WPT and in particular, African grey conservation. I have a rescued grey and while she is a delight, I will never be able to meet her needs as she would get in the wild. I wish people would understand that the cute videos they see about these birds are not the reality of what it's like to truly keep a grey parrot.

I don't agree saying they mimic . They know what they are saying. I've had birds since the 80s and they are much smarter than people think

Our desire to have them as pets are gonna make them go extinct in the wild. Everything humans touch turn to black.
