On the latest episode of Inside The Leafs, Postmedia's Rob Wong chats with Toronto Sun Maple Leafs writers Lance Hornby and Terry Koshan about the Maple Leafs’ offseason and whether or they think the team can drastically change their roster. They also look back at the career of longtime Leaf, Ron Ellis, who died at the age of 79.

The Leafs DID move off the Shanaplan... the moment they signed John Tavares. It was implied tat there would be no more over priced free agent signings like David Clarkson. They were supposed to build the team right and patiently through the draft... how many draft picks do we currently have? I'm pretty sure that it didn't entail paying over 50% of the cap on just 4 playoff unproven players.

To move forward I think the Leafs might: 1) move Matthews to the wing where snipers thrive 2) rehabilitate Marner so he back checks right to the Leafs net and he learns to sign his extension to play his heart out for Leafs fans (not just to be treated like a God in Toronto) 3) if JT can give up the C graciously & play a 3rd line Centre role - that is where JT now belongs😀

Leafs after being soundly beaten by Florida last year . Should of started their rebuild. Until they can compete and beat the Atlantic division best, they will never make it past the 1st or 2nd round of the playoffs. With one playoff round win under Shanahan. He should of received his walking papers

The Leafs franchise hasn't played in a Stanley Cup Finals series since 1967. The Leafs' current 'situation' isn't new. Horrible franchise.

Take the C away from Tavares give it to Matthews. Like in Winnipeg things have to change with possibly trading of Marner and Tavares if they agree.

What exactly is a shanaplan? Continue losing until someone has the guts to fire him? 8 years of futility - technically 10 years but let's cut him some slack for the first few years. He has been somewhat neutered as he no longer has access to the board since they have added an extra layer of puppetry with Keith Pelley. This team also has some no movement clauses: A GM with a poor track record -in Calgary has already had a bust season in Toronto. Reaves, Klingberg? Flushing money down the drain. One year and this team is already worse than last year. No coach and talking about recycling Berube who was very lucky to win in St. Louis? Yeah, tough guy who will kick some ass and lose the dressing room by Christmas at the latest. Don't count on Rod Brind'amour coming to a dysfunctional organization either. What excellent coach wants to come to Toronto with the current situation? There is no more window for these guys to win without drastic changes. Rangers, Canes, Colorado, Florida, Dallas, Edmonton, Vancouver, Vegas are all much better and Boston and Tampa debatably better. At best the 9th best team in the league? Blow it up and bring in better leadership....or not. Continue to make money if that is the objective of MLSE. But stop the nonsense about "this is about winning." and we "want to win" which is what Pelley said. Never mind the excuse of "I have only been here 4 weeks. Did you follow the team? Watch any games before you took this job? If so and you wanted to win the first thing you would have done is fired shanahan. Stop lying to the fans and make a change. 56 years of losing and counting for a team that has NEVER WON more than 2 playoffs series.....ever. unfortunately the die hard fans and corporations will continue to go to games and spend money. in other cities fans get fed up and stop attending games until changes are made. not here. So don't hold your breath. Lower your expectations and enjoy the rite of summer speculation and injections of hope until October when the season starts. If not then, for sure by April of 2025 when reality sets in after an early playoff exit, you will find yourself in the same place.
