Coffee or Die

2 жыл бұрын

In this second and final installment of “Inside the Marine Corps' New Recon Sniper Course,” we trace the proud history of Marine Scout Snipers from their humble beginnings in World War II to the jungles of Vietnam, where the elite culture, training, and operations that modern Scout Snipers are known for were forged in fire and carried forward by legendary Marine Scout Sniper Carlos Hathcock and other extraordinary leaders.
And as we follow 10 students through the final phases of the first-ever Reconnaissance Sniper Course, we compare Scout Sniper training with the Recon community’s new nine-week course, hear from the instructors and architects of the new course, and get a picture of the road ahead as Marines from the Reconnaissance Training Company seek to build “the best sniper program that there is.”

Time will show very soon if these guys are actually freedom fighters or just thugs for the left. I got out 2 years ago and even I couldn't tell you which way many guys might fall. Some of these guys for sure will just shoot whoever their told without question even if it's us if they are ordered. Hopefully the others stop them.

It’s interesting to see how elements of PRS shooting, and LE Urban marksmanship is integrated into the curriculum. And a few of the comments made reflect a lack of understanding as to how circumstances on the battlefield drive the tactics. If you use the term sniper a lot of guys think that translates into you always being in full ghillie, hidden in the shadows, and moving at a snails pace.

There are plenty of real men in America - but unfortunately a lot of traitors also. People that support a former president that called Marines lost in battle losers and suckers. A former president that said he didn't want to be seen next to wounded soldiers at military ceremonies. Don't worry about America having enough good men - worry about certain people on the far right trying to destroy American democracy and overthrow elections. As former Marines at Let's Travel we are not worried about calling a spade a spade and cult members cult members.

Everything has to be camouflaged and sneaky. Periscopes can still stand out out of a background for instance. Raise it against a dark b'ground, in a corner, at the edge, slowly, with a cardboard to break the shape. Most of the hits are head shots. I wish they could develop a sophisticated way of keeping heads from being exposed.

I am not sure how they are doing it with the Recon Sniper program but what I read of Ranger snipers is that the sniper team leader is the spotter and already spent his time as the shooter. The shooter is getting his DOPE and corrections from the spotter. In some cases, the shooter may outrank his team leader or spotter. For example, Nicholas "The Reaper" Irving was a sergeant in the Rangers and out-ranked his spotter. Anyway, God bless the USA, God bless the Marines, and God bless the Recon Sniper Course. Now, they will get out there and save so many lives. From guided missions to overwatch for other units and MOS jobs. I could see them providing overwatch for a batch of Raiders, for example.

@@ronws2007 Which in of itself is already oudated, current doctrine is to self spot. There is no place for someone to "just spot" in combat, everyone needs to be shooting. You only have a spotter during training

Love that sneaky strat tactic. The DoD wont yet realize that you've set up a BETTER (ok. More advanced) sniper training pipeline when they nix the SSC. And being under MARSOC you'll have a bit more top cover and budget. Haha. Thinking outside the box. Or working the angles. You pick

They need to update all of these courses to adapt to near-peer conflicts. If these operators try to use the old book to fight the new wars, they will get schwacked. Mavic 2 drones will spot you on your infil or stalk, and Russian arty will drop on your heads in less than 3.5 minutes. And if you laze your point targets, the Spider system will let the enemy soldier or tank know what direction you are. USMC warfare training doctrine is extremely slow to adapt. If you aren't on the eastern front in Ukraine, you aren't teaching the latest TTPs.

I don't remember where I saw but one of the key predictors of success in USMC Scout/ Sniper School was being a Recon Marine. Reason being is yes, S/S School is obviously hard, but if you've already gone to and passed BRC, you're familiar with hard training, rucking, swimming, staying up late and waking up early, etc. etc. It's not a guarantee of success, but it puts your chances above the chances of an 0311 LCpl that came from a victor unit that has never done or been exposed to anything as hard as BRC or SSBC before..
