The all new Cirrus SR Series generation 7 was announced this past week by Cirrus Aircraft. The SR22 Cirrus is one of the best selling single piston engine airplanes and it also happens to be the most expensive. Think of Cirrus as the Bentley of single pistons. They carter to customers who want practicality, luxury and comfort. The new SR22 G7 will continue that tradition.
The SR20 - • The Cirrus SR20 Is One...
The SR22 - • Cirrus SR22. The Best ...
The SF50 Jet - • Flying The Cirrus Pers...
So what's new? here are some cool new features in the SR22 G7
- New touch screens in the center of the cockpit - Cirrus is doing away with the chunky keyboard and now you have touchscreens similar to the cockpit of the Cirrus Jet
- Side sticks - you also get new side sticks mirroring the Cirrus SF50 jet
- Push to start - Cirrus is doing away with turning an ignition key even with an old engine. Now you have a push to start button to rev up your engines, just like you have in modern cars.
- Safe 3D Taxi map - Fancy but a very neat safety feature.
- Auto fuel selector - This may be my favorite new feature in the G7. Now you can Automatically alternate between fuel tanks every five gallons during flight to ease fuel management. Any safety feature that can reduce the work load on a Pilot I think is pretty awesome.

Mike you literally explained why going THE SLING TSI route is a better choice. Cirrus is now catching up with some tech but still fail to add a FADEC powerplant. At a 3rd of the price the TSI provides more value hands down.

The problem is, turbine costs are incredibly high. I’ve had C150-Warrior-Lance-Baron-310. Being in the “turbine” world requires a huge bump. If you don’t have at least 10 million, you probably cannot afford to run a pressurized turbine.

All these new features should be in every airplane. Even though the price is pretty high, it’s good to see Cirrus modernizing general aviation. More companies will definitely follow which will drive down prices eventually when it becomes standard.

Yes my Bristell 915 has push start , touch screens , IFR IMC equipped and chute but I ordered a G7 22T. More payload and speed. Great warranty and many nearby service centers.

If you order one be aware there will be a addendum to the contract. The price you agree to will actually be less than what you pay. It will take a minimum of 18 months to deliver and you will be responsible for cost increases. If you ordered a fully equipped SR22T today 1.3 will balloon conservatively by 10% before it is delivered. Things to consider.
@idigtexas714
@idigtexas714 17 күн бұрын
I don't think I signed any addendum, interesting. Point is if they sell like hotcakes (according to Cirrus lol), how about not latching onto deposits? Seems desperate to me.

It's not as fast but I think the Diamond DA40 NG looks like a worthy competitor. Mike, would like to see a video on this plane! Edit as of 1/19/24: Mike has older videos that show he trained to fly in an older DA40 and one covers that plane well. This plane is faster, uses Jet-A and has lower fuel burn. I'd still like to see a video covering the newer plane...and maybe Diamondshare as well.

I didn't know the Piper m350 was in similar price range. I think the key to Cirrus' success is that it's slightly modern in appearance, it's among the faster planes, has fancy looking avionics and maybe the parachute is ultimately the deal clincher. What's the one thing you want out of a plane? to not die. It's important :) It might be as simple as looking new and having the parachute. Because most of the others look like they were indiana jones' childhood plane. And afaik Cirrus completely dominates the small plane market, I think they just reached 10000 planes sold, maybe 400million dollars annual sales but somehow they haven't managed economy of scale, only scale of greed. I've noticed one common issue crippling all of GA, that's the engine costs. Now Cirrus are masters of greed themselves but as big of a company as they are, they should actually develop engines of their own. They could do their own IO550 in a bit more modern version, it's not impossible and worth it for them but ironically it's actually easier to make the equivalent turbofan engine and have two engines and be so much cooler and faster. There is no twin jet in car seat size planes despite it being very possible and it would instantly devastate both everything in the piston world, I mean foggedaboudid, but it would presumably also really cut into socalled light jets because who wants the hassle of getting a pilot and servicing of a private jet if you can just drive your car style jet without all the overhead. As surprising as it is, turbofan jet planes can match or exceed the fuel economy of piston props. An Eclipse 550 literally has better mileage than a Baron 58 despite being 60% faster. The first to make a car twin jet for even remotely decent money will murder the market. Jets are so reliable that for personal use they'll last you a lifetime. Who ever flies 3500 hours for personal use. Also it might well be possible to make a jet engine that can run on any kind of fuel around, mogas, avgas, diesel, jetA. Pretty cool selling point. And with a strong power to weight ratio it can do short runways with the best of them. Grass runways are not that demanding on landing gear. Imagine the freedom of a twin private jet with LSA fuel economy.

I will take my Legacy - 285mph, 2 G3X, GNS 750, all electric push start engine - under 400k and will smoke any SR22. Unless engine blows over mtns. Cirrus know their market, newbie pilots and a wife who wants the chute. Operating cost on the cirrus will be outrageous - hanger, insurance, maintenance, annual training, etc. And I can do acrobatics (light) oh and I raced it in reno! I owned a Malibu - maintenance is off the charts - pressurization is a big dollar sink. flying high cost big bucks

I think the best feature on the new G7 is the automated flaps. This will save lives. The airplane is not forgiving to retracting flaps lower than specified speed and has cost pilots their lives in the past. Good job. The engine in the airplane is a solid engine platform and I see no need to change it but I do believe Sarah has bumped their head on the pricing as Mike said there are plenty of other aircraft for the same or less price with other attractive features. A comment onoutselling other manufacturers. The fact that they have a pair of Ute is the biggest reason for that. Having that data, I think all manufactures of new aircraft should include the option.

For the most part, I agree with you. A Diesel (jet A) FADEC is the way to go but that would likely price out around $1.6m. Pressurization would redesign the Gull door-ed air-frame and flirt with a heavier $2m SEL; new model Cirrus?. That would probably help competitor sales more than Cirrus. Although not new, the touch mini screens is the future (safety, function, appearance, simplicity). I think Cirrus is at the price thresh hold now, but what do I know, can't afford one either. Good review and I appreciate your effort.

Cirrus, Piper and Cessna are scams to buy new, they are not worth their asking price

For coffee, I see a few people have recommended James Hoffman. Absolutely recommend his channel. Also recommend Morgan Drinks Coffee and Emilee Bryant. You probably already know this, but the basics that I try to do (I am no expert so hefty grain of salt) keep weight the same if you can, and if it’s acidic it is under extracted(not a long enough shot or the grind is too coarse ) and if it tastes burnt it’s over extracted (needs a longer pull or a finer grind).

Cirrus saying “it’s just like the vision jet” over and over again is not about transitioning pilots. Its marketing. They are trying to give potential buyers the “feels”. It’s not going to get them to step up to a vision jet, but it is a very smart way to market their premium product and make it feel more premium and special to potential buyers, and it can motivate current owners to update to a G7.

It is a net positive since you can do all of your own maintenance, just for starters.

Nice looking plane, but for that money I'd expect more. It seems like they could push the price way down and shoot for efficiency vs everything being premium and make a much more affordable package based on the model, which I'd have to assume would sell better. Maybe they're just not interested in selling affordable planes?

Why would they? They’ve sold more GA aircraft than any other company for the last 15 years and sold them for twice the price. They would literally have to double their unit sales or more if they drove down their prices.

It’s crazy how exoplanets are … if Tesla decided to build planes (will never happen) this plane would be $90,000 not $1 million. 🤔

Anti icing is not standard? Holy shizahowsen! Doesn’t this affect SEVERELY the altitudes and geographical locations one can even fly this beast into? BTW I have a 2.5 metre wingspan 10 channel rc model of this aircraft, which will happily do up to 200 KM/h with strobe lights and all and thank the gods it doesn’t need anti icing! Why is anti icing not fitted as standard? Far canal! 🧐🧐

The anti-icing system on the Cirrus (and most GA airplanes) is used to safely get OUT of icing if you accidentally encounter it. The anti-icing systems in these aircraft are not robust enough to handle anything more than light icing and most (smart) pilots will try to avoid all icing, even if equipped with anti-ice. Plus, these systems are expensive to install, require maintenance, involve nasty de-ice fluid, and add weight to the airplane, reducing your useful load.

With tax depreciation phasing out they will not be able to continue increasing prices this way
