THIS STORY:
The Wyoming State Penitentiary is a historic prison in Rawlins, Carbon County, Wyoming, which had operated from 1901 and closed in 1981, operations moving from Rawlins to a new location, which is now the "Wyoming Department of Corrections State Maximum-Security Prison for Men".
This historic Wyoming State Penitentiary in Rawlins is the location of the old death row house and execution areas; the Hanging Room and the Gas Chamber. Convict Henry Ruhl was executed here in 1945, the only person executed by the U.S. Federal Government in Wyoming.
THIS CHANNEL:
_________________________________________________________
The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
Some are famous.
And some infamous....
....and some with tragic endings.

Noooo I’m from Colorado and the great thing there and in Wyoming is that it cools down at night because it’s such a dry climate. Try San Antonio, Texas, or a place like that - extremely hot in the summer, and zero relief at night because the temperature does not fluctuate much with the humidity.

Been to a few: Kilmanhaim Gaol in Ireland (think I got that right), and Camp Vught, a Nazi concentration camp. They definitely have a creepy vibe… I’ve stood where gallows were built to hang Irish criminals and stood in a field where the Nazis lined children up to shoot, and it’s something you can never forget.

That prison is definitely haunted. They give tours. On Halloween they give a tour that's pretty good. In the summer they let you spend the night. Depending on whether you want to be the Warden or trusty or inmate they charge different prices. When you arrive they serve you dinner before they lock you down. The new state prison is also in Rawlins. They used to sell the things the inmates made like leather purses, belts, wallets and more. It's a great experience

Hey Ron! When you get settled in over in Arizona, come up to Idaho. Our Old Idaho Penn has a great tour you can take. Many Stories! Behind Gray Walls Podcast tells of a Female and Male prisoner. They even have a cemetery with unknown prisoners. Crazy story behind that! A Prisoner was sent out for yard duty one day and decided he didn't want to mow around all of the markers , so he made a pile of the marker and then when he finished mowing he didn't remember where they went. We can chat!

This was really cool. I don’t know what it is about visiting old prisons, but touring Alcatraz was one of the highlights of my tourist life. It’s hard to imagine people adapting to prison life, but they do. I watched a video of John Wayne Gacy, and he actually thrived in the environment. He liked the structure, not having to worry about paying bills, got to do his paintings, didn’t have the anxiety of fighting his murderous compulsions, etc. Of course, he was there under the death penalty and its protective custody, but he never seriously thought it would be carried out. Until it was.

This was incredible. I love stories like this ( what's wrong with me??). All I can say is for anyone who ended up in this prison for even a day and then ended up here again, then they deserved to be here because they had to be out of their mind. This place would scare me right into going to church on a daily basis. If those stones were handmade, I wonder if the prisoners made their own headstones, too. I wonder why there's such a variety of them. Maybe the families were able to add things like the crosses? One stone looked like it had a beautiful wooden cross that still looked in good shape from a distance. I wonder if there were any innocent men put to death here. That would be really sad. I can't imagine just having this one prison for the entire state. Wow! Thank you for repeating some of the things the director was saying. I watched from my phone, and it was hard to hear her at times. I may just go back and watch this one again from my computer. It was that good!! Btw, you should do this at Joliet prison too. I'd love to see the inside of that one. From the outside of this building, the structure was beautiful. What it held inside though, not so much.

Ron, have you ever been to the Eastern State Penitentiary, in Philly? One of the oldest prisons in America, we went there once, the walls of the entire joint smelled like B.O., Al Capone was there for a spell, it’s a self guided tour with headphones you could listen to, the history and all of that. A unique design at the time, NO talking was permitted between anyone or the guards, when it first opened. Charles Dickens visited that joint. It’s been many years since we’ve been there, we need to go back. Good video man! Happy Trails explorer!

Our tour guide told us that the current state prison is 2 miles south of Rawlins and it has sunk 2 feet due to poor soil. The territorial prison is in Laramie. That is interesting too.

I've passed through Rawlings many many times but only exited I 80 to get gas. My father in law grew up here in the 40's and 50's. Next time I will stay a while and see the sights. Thanks for the mini tour. Well done

We stopped in Rawlins when we went to see the eclipse in 2017 and walked around this prison, but it was closed at the time. I'm glad I get to see the inside now!

I visited and did the tour about 3 years ago. It was awesome. I definitely had some strange feelings in the death house. Specifically in the gallows. I highly recommend taking the tour!

Old prisons are very interesting. Ive been to the old prison in Deer Lodge Montana. Has quite a history too but not as fascinating as the Wyoming one. It's huge & the structure is very interesting.
