The Rivet Joint aircraft is the most advanced spy plane in the world. It has been given a £1.2 billion upgrade, with the aircraft's flying and intelligence gathering abilities having been improved. The Rivet Joint programme is jointly run between the United Kingdom and United States, and its pilots are training using a large cockpit simulator at RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire.

@@EFChartley 12 year commitment to fly as a raf crewmember on board this aircraft. in the usaf you can be flying in 1.5 years and be back on the streets 2.5 years later and from what i can tell it's all because of the training differences between raf and usaf.

Question. Are we depending on the US Air Force's KC-135's and eventually KC-46's to provide air to air refuelling for our RC-135's and also our new P-8's ? I ask as we operate hose and drogue on our A330 Voyagers and the RC-135 and P-8 appear to use the flying boom as per KC-135, etc. Might be time to get a few KC-46's ourselves, modified with a centre line boom and also under wing hose and drogue pods, when they go into service so we can do it all ourselves.

Mark Plane I believe the A330 can be configured with a boom. Not sure if the RAF versions have it hooked up but other A330 users do have them.

Yes the RAF relies on US tankers to refuel its Poseidons, Globemasters and rivet joints. The RAF have no ARBS equipped A330MRTT aircraft.
