California ICU beds are at 0% around many of the counties, and of course I feel for the patients, but especially the health care workers. Um, there's plenty of organizations dedicated to helping people be healthy. The goal right now is to MINIMIZE the number of people that get infected. You can be healthy as hell and still end up in the hospital due to COVID.

You can make as many beds as you want. Doesn't mean there is space and nurses and doctors to tend to them. Those come much slower. This is on everyone who didn't take it seriously, and refused to do the bare minimum to save lives by wearing a mask. The US motto is now "Irresponsibility- No single raindrop believes it is to blame for the flood."

The part that lurks beneath the surface is all the people who get sick, take up a hospital bed for 2 weeks, don't die, but end up with long term serious consequences, such as shriveled testes, heart problems, difficulty breathing, mind fog, kidney disease. Some people will be feeling the consequences of this pandemic for many years to come. And by taking up so many hospital resources, many other people cannot get the care they need for other issues. All because too many people think it's too inconvenient to wear a mask and social distance. We are a sad, sad country, too soft to deal with a little hardship to protect others. The virus itself is mild. The problem is simply that this is new and a certain population does not have a strong enough immune system to handle anything new. We will see several new pathogens through the years and we cannot face each one with a general, destructive lockdown.

I would check to see that the nearby hospitals have less than five covid patients. That's a relatively small hospital and each count has been concentrating covid patients in just a few or one hospital. They could easily transfer 3/4 of these patients to the unused hospitals.

I want you to wear a mask so the economy can recover. So restaurants and bars can open. So the travel industry can return to normal. So I can go to a ballgame again. Many other countries beat this easily and quickly. Not europe. Not USA. And it's probably going to get worse this winter due to vitamin D deficiency due to lack of people out in the sun.

@@knightofwind2929 Well most epidemiologists strongly suspected it would be milder in the summer and come back badly in the fall. Even Fauci himself predicted this back in the spring. But it takes more than 6 months to double the number of ICU qualified nurses. You usually want a 1 to 1 or worst case 1 to 2 ratio of nurses to patients in the ICU as they need constant monitoring and changes (e.g. blood work indicates a new bacterial lung infection - get the doctor to prescribe an antibiotic). And we kind of *are* prepared. Somewhat. But the Nurses are getting burnout and if it gets only a little worse people will die from other things like heart attacks because the hospital was too busy.

@@JanGokor I've seen plenty of healthy 30-50 year olds without comorbidities end up dying and also seen 70-80 year olds with diabetes and COPD get transferred out in a few days. Sorry you just want to believe that it's only patients with underlying health conditions but I have seen first hand that is not true after working in a covid ICU for the past 6 months. The guidelines help because if you were to have covid but are asymptomatic, then it helps prevent the spread to others who are more at risk. Just wear a mask and follow guidelines for a few more months until the vaccine is widely available and we can hopefully develop herd immunity. It's not that damn hard.
