AT A secret base protected by a vast woodland canopy, British ex-soldier Dan Ridley casts his eye over the latest Ukrainian recruits.
From a raised wooden platform overlooking a maze of rooms he watches them move swiftly from door to door. But so too is everything here.
The wooden huts nearby, where troops are undergoing combat medical training, have laid dormant for more than 15 years and are crumbling. It is a wonder they are still standing.
But by the end of this week, Dan, 28, and his team of instructors at Trident Defense Initiative (TDI) will have trained over 14,000 Ukrainian soldiers since the start of the war.
The Sun was yesterday given exclusive access to the British-run HQ which is located just a few miles from the frontline in Ukraine's second largest city of Kharkiv.

What’s funny is we trained for trench warfare and Russia in Germany in 2006 (I was a US soldier) . 2 years before bush’s speech on why Ukraine needs to join nato lol they’ve been prepping for this for over a decade

@@MJ-ip7oj No living US soldier of fighting age has fought in bunkers and trench warfare like this. Unless they have been in Ukraine. Like marines in Fallujah clearing that city. Maybe Grozny was like that in ways but that didnt involve US. Every conflict is unique you can only learn so much in training. They are best trained and prepared for sure no comparison. Takes battles to test theory and assumptions though. Its a science like anything else.

Any kind of training is better than no training at all. Good idea to choice trainees who know how too used a firearm properly and add more knowledge to what they already know. Trained than trained more. When you think you are ready. You need to trained harder. Then before.

You asked for money and weapons and said that you would defeat Russia in 2022. You asked for money and weapons in 2023 and said that you would attack Russia. you need to trained the population to fight as well as the soldiers, trained them as medics which is the main problem, how to rescue and get out of the way or shoot in case they are in mortal danger, all the soldiers should be cross trained on every single field from engineers to explosives, command and control, drone operators, trench warfare, and everything else, especially in urban warfare. as those brits are doing

NATO needs to send instructors into Ukraine again to train, but theses guys are doing an amazing job until then. NATO has a mass amount of air dense protections systems, set those up and train UKR troops underneath them. It's not that difficult.

There is no such thing as an Article 5 "trigger". There are only harmful acts against a nation that qualify as grounds for that nation to ask other NATO members for help in defense. The other NATO members need not take action if reasonable people disagree about whether the acts are serious enough to justify an Article 5 response or if the acts are not ongoing and it is reasonable to ignore them for the sake of avoiding greater bloodshed in a war.

China's economy is developing, and it is well known that the China's and Russia's economies are, in fact, one common economy, because China's economy is completely dependent on Russian gas. China is an industrial country. And every industry needs a huge amount of electricity. The cheapest electricity is produced from gas. Imo, training others to fight the wests war against Russia is not enough. When Boris Johnson flew on behalf of USA and Uk, to Ukraine and told Zelensky not to continue the preliminary peace negotiations with Putin, THAT is when uk and USA boys should have been conscripted for this war. The training should happen in Ukraine under war conditions. Yes there is a possibility that the Russians send missiles but its unlikely that they hit when there is a proper behaivior, camouflage etc. Look how big Ukraine is! At the frontlines there is also a risk so better to get used to that straight away. We in the West should finally put away our cowardness and send instructors instead of taking the Ukrainiens to our countries.

Need to trained volunteers from friendly or allies country to fight as volunteers. Need trainees with military or civilians w weapon training already. This would move training along faster.

@@TheDrAstrovAt this point, with russia’s crippled and weakened military, it would be very easy for NATO to do. Even before the Ukraine war, it would have been easy. But why bother? Most of russia is a third world country. Yes, they have natural resources, but most of that will be given back to the Buryatians when the RF breaks apart next year.

Getting training from British and American troops that have zero real war experience at all. Because none have fought in a real war like in Ukraine. If the Ukrainians wanted to be well trained at trench warfare they should be getting frontline Ukrainian soldiers to train them so they have a chance to survive a little longer.

You sure about that Ivan? The US has fought in Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq… the British as well. The US and UK have some of the best military doctrine in the world. Ukraine will certainly add a tremendous experience base to NATO when they join, but the soldiers being trained will benefit greatly from this.
