An investigation is underway after a 6-year-old girl died on a ride at the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park in Colorado. The child was riding the Haunted Mine Drop, which drops riders "110-feet inside the dark depths of Iron Mountain in what feels like a free-fall.” Walt Stowe, a spokesman for the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office, said that his agency is investigating the accident and opted to not give any additional information, according to the outlet.

Yeah but the lady could be overreacting. The first time I went on a big coaster (Leviathan) I thought that my restraint was coming undone, but in reality it was perfectly fine and the reason I thought it was coming undone was that it was my first time ever going on a big ride like that and I wasn’t really familiar with the feeling of airtime.

@@chloewatson8275 The minimum height requirement varies per park. Manufacturers give a recommendation, and can give some advice but it's ultimately the parks responsibility to uphold these rules. The minimum height can be for kids under 10, but it doesn't mean the manufacturer thought the same. It's just that it's technically possible. I think these rides really aren't aimed for kids that young, it's just that they can fit is all.

@@bear77h20 In some situations, yes. But clearly the parents were told it was safe to take their kid on the ride. We live our lives according to advice given to us by other people all the time. For example, safe infant sleeping positions have changed over the years - meaning parents went off the advice given to them that was actually wrong at one point. I don’t blame the parents here at all - they were told the ride was safe by its operators, and they should have been in the best position to know.

@@cringeken5389 It is the theme park's fault if they allowed her. When I go to six flags every ride has a height and weight requirement. There's a ride called the acrophobia that drops vertically down like this and my parents wanted the whole family to ride it once but I wasn't allowed to because I didn't fit the height requirement. Considering the 911 call said 'party' and not 'person' means that the entire safety system failed and everyone was pitched from the car. The child left during the fall, likely striking the walls of the descent and going down the rest of the way like a pinball while the heavier adults were discharged at the bottom, surviving because they braked with the seat assembly only to fall out when it finally stopped.

Let me clear a few things up. 1. The investigation showed the rides safety systems tried to stop what happened but the operators over rode the warning. The ride is not at fault. 2. The girl sat on top of her seat belt, had she been strapped in with it, she would not have fallen out. 3. Age has nothing to do with rides, she met the height requirement, hence she was safe to ride. 4. The woman who claims she was too lose i’m sure was just over exaggerating. How many times have you rode a ride and said “omg I almost fell out afterwards” they’re designed to give airtime, doesn’t mean you’re gonna fall out.

I remember at 9 yrs old I was on a similar ride, at a six flags in Texas, with no shoulder straps/support. I found out I was thin enough to slide out of the waist strap/bar. Luckily, I gripped a bar in front of me at the big drop, but realized I could have flown out if I didn’t. This makes me think this is a similar scenario. My condolences to the family.

We had a similar ride at my amusement park (it has since been removed) I remember being 13-15 and STILL not being tall enough for the ride. It was shorter AND had a harness unlike this ride. I’m pretty sure the height requirement was 58-60” Baffles me that a 6 year old was considered tall enough for this ride, or anybody of that height regardless of age.

Lol there is a height and weight restriction, but 1. Unless you’re obese you don’t have to worry about it. 2. I’m assuming she was forced by her mother and forcing the staff to go in the ride, when she was most likely under the height requirement. It’s possible but unlikely for it to be a seatbelt failure. We need to wait until Glenwood Caverns releases a statement on this after the investigation. As an amusement park enthusiast I can understand how you as a mother can be scared, but as long as your daughter meets the height restriction of a ride she goes on, it’s fine. I’ve been riding roller coasters since I was 6 and can easily tell you this is most likely a child forced to ride the ride when she’s too short, causing her to die. Mind you it’s a 1 in 24 million chance of being hurt, and an even higher chance of dying at an amusement park. I hope you understand.
@xthunder_164
@xthunder_164 2 жыл бұрын
Also as I reread your comment: The child’s mother was most likely a Karen, barking at the ride ops to take her on the ride. If this turns out on what I think happens, then the ride ops will most likely, wait- lemme rephrase that, WILL be fired. Then again it’s most likely not a seatbelt failure. But it’s not out of the question.
