Late actor, Alan Thicke was rushed to a hospital just a mile away from where he suffered a massive heart attack. The manager of the facility where Thicke was set to play a game of hockey is speaking out saying they all thought he was going to be okay. The Growing Pains' 19-year-old son, Carter, was with him at the time who, at one point, was even cracking jokes. Cardiac surgeon Dr. Oz told Inside Edition the cold temperature in the rink may have contributed to Thicke's apparent heart attack. #InsideEdition

At least he went out in class. I think they said he was 69. 69 and still playing hockey, when I was 20 most thought 69 was in a old folks home.

I wouldn’t doubt that. Back then, an age of 69 years was considered old because of lower average life expectancy. Nowadays, that age would sound rather young.

Such a great role model for other fathers. His memory will live on through his love of life and the joy he brought to everyone he came in contact with. I have not heard anything negative about him. He was an All around great guy.

This isn't a heart attack. It is a aorta dissection which is hard to detect. This is genetic in my family and it often confused as a heart attack.

Lucille Ball, John Ritter and one that hits too close to home, my beloved 80 year old Mom. With my Mom who was 80 and in mid-stage of Dementia, she told my sister who was in the room with her that she felt like her chest was being ripped open. She then seized & my other sister called 911. They were able to bring her back out of the seizure & because my sister who rode with her in the ambulance told them my Mom felt a ripping in her chest, the ER knew what to look for & called in a thoracic surgeon. Because my Mom was 80 with Dementia, the surgeon gave us 2 options: To attempt to repair the tear but advised she either would not make it through the surgery and even if she did she would be in the ICU and due to the lengthy surgery under anesthesia that long she may not know us if she came out of it. The 2nd option was to not have surgery and to put her on a DNR & just make her comfortable. Since we all knew my Mom’s biggest fear even before she was diagnosed with Dementia was that she did not want to get to the stage where she would not know her children. She also made her wishes known to us for years that she did not want to be put on life support if it meant she had little to no chance of surviving. My oldest sister made the choice to place her on a DNR. To the surprise of the thoracic surgeon & hospital staff, my Mom lived 6 days after her aortic dissection and from the time she entered the hospital we took turns staying at her bedside, she was never left alone. She passed away in front of me, her youngest child of 8 and one of my sisters. Most everyone such as John Ritter & Alan Thicke passed away the same day as their aortic dissections. I believe Lucille Ball survived her surgery and was recovering from that when she suddenly had a rupture of her aorta and died almost instantly afterwards. The thoracic surgeon who was over my Mom’s care showed my sisters how bad my Mom’s aortic dissection was and 6 years later I am amazed how she survived for 6 days without surgery. We too were told it is hard to detect and that she could have been born with a defect in her heart & that it could be hereditary. I know John Ritter’s brother suffered one but he survived thank God. My grief brought me to this video & I pray for anyone who has lost loved ones to this condition. Time is of the essence when it happens but I am still amazed how my Mom lived 6 days after hers. We were starting to believe a miracle was happening because she stayed alert with the exception of no longer being able to swallow. I wrestle with did we make the right decision to place her on DNR as opposed to allowing surgery but knowing that type of surgery is several hours and given her age along with Dementia, who knows??? Thanks for reading…. I miss my Mom so much😢

My husband survived but it was touch and go and six months on life support! Dialysis etc…a dissection is a 90 percent chance of death! My husband was never misdiagnosed as a heart attack! His EMT were smart and knew!

By counting Alan Thicke as an “American TV Dad,” I think they just meant he played a protagonist father in an American TV series.

This doctor Oz gave such a ridiculous statement I couldn't help but laugh. It was pure filler without informing us of anything that we didn't already know. "Um... dads die from what dads die from: heart attacks. Thank you, thank you" WHY even waste your time talking to this clown? Might as well have spoken to a random person on the street to get the same knowledge. Next time, try speaking with a real doctor, and not someone that plays one on tv.
