The quick-thinking grandfather with a cane stepped in to trip the suspect, allowing police to nab him. Body camera footage shows cops chasing the suspect outside a library in Ohio. Police say Shawn Briggs was armed with a 9mm pistol loaded with 29 rounds. Commander Scott Highland, who was wearing the body cam, says the elderly man’s quick thinking may have actually saved lives, inducing the suspect’s. #InsideEdition

Even though they were safely in the building (from what I can see), he wasn't taking any chances with a man on the run with a gun to get anywhere near them. Instinct like that is pretty strong.

@@nambam5409 And what's really amazing is the quick thinking and the casual looks he used to trick the guy into thinking he wasn't a threat to his escape. If he had faced the suspect and blatantly tried to stop him, the suspect would immediately understood he was trying to stop him and he would push Bill away or hurt him, or avoid him. But Bill acted like a casual, clueless old man, pretending he wasn't even understanding the situation while looking away from the suspect, so the suspect felt safe to pass by near him... and that's when Bill acted, completely catching him by surprise.

He was actually pretty smart. Instead of turning to face the guy running toward him, which would likely have caused the perp to swerve away or possibly even shoot, he faced the other way to make it seem like he was oblivious to the situation, then stuck his leg out behind him to catch the guy completely off guard. Pretty quick situational assessment and perfectly timed execution. He may not have the training, but he's sure got the instincts.
