Do you want to be an entrepreneur? Would you like to work at a startup that is doing groundbreaking work? What makes entrepreneurship the next bastion to be conquered by India’s academic elite? Should you invest in India’s startup story? In fact, should you be bullish on India? Who is investing in the India story today? What kind of investors rule the roost internationally and where does India stand? If you’re curious about any of these questions, watch and listen as Pranav Pai, VC, Founder 3one4 Capital, Investor in companies like Pocket Aces (TVF) & Zoomcar among others, Stanford Alum, talks at the i5 Summit IIM Indore, about investing, the startup economy, India’s economic position in the world, and why one should invest in the India story.
Read stories based on startups here - bit.ly/2nfiDpa
Summary of the video
In this video, Pranav talks about India’s economic position in the world and why it is profitable to invest in, work in or even launch a startup today. He takes us through India’s economic growth and the shares how India is ranked among the top 5 global economies today. He talks about the number of unicorns, decacorns and soonicorns that exist globally and in India today. He shares how India’s startup economy is a lucrative space to invest in, with plenty of positive growth.
He talks about the investment sector and the way the market is structured today in India and the world. He then takes us through the digital scenario in India today. Pranav talks of the 4 factors that have converged to put India on the global economic map. He talks of how international players are investing in India in order to tap into the huge market.
He talks about the various Indian startups that have made it big, and what India can learn from China about investing and economic growth. Finally, he shares the government initiatives that lead to India’s economic growth and talks about demonetisation in a positive light. He also talks about the “India Stack,” the proprietary public technology that the Indian government has augmented, speaking of the uniqueness of it all.
If you want to know what makes India a startup destination and the area to invest in, this is a must watch for you.
Key Takeaways
1. Increasingly India is becoming a global destination for the world’s top companies to come and invest.
2. Companies are investing in India to tap into the huge consumer base and to gain market share.
3. China has understood that there’s value in having influence on the minds and spending habits of young people all over the world.
4. The only restriction on what we can do is the objectives we set ourselves.

Mr. Pranav Pai seems to be an economist, as he said due to demonetization there is the pick in digital penetration, well... has he got the stats in other fields of our economy as the after effects of demonetization? it's like due to demonetization I have recovered from my diarrhea. Does he know that Indian economy is currently going through terrible growth recession for the last four consecutive quarters and also industrial slow down.

Guys before we drag our conclusions, let us not forget he is alumnus of Stanford and he indeed has more knowledge and experience than any of us sitting here labelling someone's political affiliations. It doesn't matter what we startup. The universe has space to adjust everything. These are startups coz Indian lifestyle is different than others. And it should always be. We don't want western consumption culture in India which is polluting world at fastest rate possible. Our consumption should be aligned with our age old scientific methods. For example usage of diaper is so stupid. It might give ease and time saviour but in reality it is polluting the world and giving rashes to babies and who knows how much and yo what extent if effects our babies health. Our old cotton n bamboo cloth and other alternative ways are far better which are naturally antibacteral.

It is true that a lot of foreign companies are coming in and setting up their offices in our country. But the problem here is our Indian employees are made to almost work like slaves in these companies as there is no proper structure of work or timing. Work load is dumped on the Indian employees as if they don't have a personal life and there is no stress / fatigue management in place (mostly IT companies). It is great that foreign investments are coming in but at the same time it shouldn't lead to a corporate slavery. This sort of routine or work place practice does not take place in foreign countries. If it is 8 am to 4pm shift then it is not matter what happens. Corporate culture at Indian workplace needs to be changed. I am saying this as I have seen our young talented population getting crushed in the corporate life which is cheap labor for all foreign investors. Everyone needs a life and life is not at work alone.

It was just a question though .where did the discrimination like Indian/Western/etc come from in this what I initially believed to be an intellectual question? Any way let's cut it here because I don't think it's worth for me to debate with you.

India became global supplier of IT because that's what India produces. Cheap educated labour. Similarly India is also a pioneer in providing cheap uneducated labour to UAE & the west, along with Bangladesh. It's not easy to replicate the model of Alibaba or FAANGS [Facebook (FB), Amazon (AMZN), Apple (AAPL), Netflix (NFLX), and Alphabet (GOOG)] because their production is entirely different (high quality tech). Alibaba & Amazon both survive on the huge development in production in China & US. The production lines were created first, then came their front face in the Internet. So, if India has to sell something, it needs to find out the product. All the new start-ups are doing exactly so, they are finding out the products. And you are to become a global company, you have to find out a global product. And it sickens me when he says, a mass scale project like Demonetization needs such pressure? Seriously? Is this is a propaganda video from BJP? Forget about the economy slowdown, forget about the massive fail when a 2000 Rs note was launched instead of 1000 Rs note (500 Rs notes just changed their shape), what about the lives lost? Even before you create good business, you need to value human lives. Good businesses solve people's problems (Ratan Tata being industrialists vs Ambanis being businessmen). And if you're not paying attention to human lives even, you're not solving problems, you're just filling your own pockets.

Our HDI currently is 0.647 , to be a developed country we need to pass the threshold of 0.828 that will take 20 years . you can't just have absolute comparisons all indices are ultimately relative.

This guy has no clue about cheap money that is injected by centeral banks by keeping interest rates low, and most of the businesses he mentioned are burning money, no profitablity for a long time, In the name of capturing market. These companies are bascially giving away money, when interest rate get normalized and cost of capital increases these businesses will cut down their operations and you will see the reality then, and see how much actual demand is there for these startups. Those who got a boost by listening to this guy please learn little bit of macro economics and how monetary system works and you will see that I am trying to show.

All figures may be true but that’s only for consumables as india is population king. More startups has a sad side as people’s present businesses are down the drain. All of their gold assets are sold A big chunk of restaurants and hotel startup’s as public has to eat and shit and ready again next day to survive Indian IT is serving foreign countries not india Amazon has killed almost every competitor in india from computer to vegetables Most people on indian FB/ Twitter have ruined their present careers posting selfies Most professionals are migrating abroad Ground reality of social values is bad to worse Plastic rice, eggs, vegetables are flourishing Lawsuits are increasing and will take a generation or two to get over Hybrid diseases, deceased immunity and reduced life span is evident The future as predicted by you may hold good post one generation and quite spectical. There’s something called VISION and it’s not going to happen before 20 more years and we want to live for the present. Last but not the least, even your RV college is struggling to fill seats in their colleges be it engineering, dental or Medical.
