Other than Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit, Bret is probably the only other guy who could work a safe match, take care of their opponent, and still make it look like an actual fight… like he was REALLY attacking a body part as he would in real life. Shawn may have been more flashy, but Bret was CREDIBLE and I preferred watching the Hitman.

When Trump arrived, they asked him anyways… and even though he had absolutely no obligation or skin in the game, Trump said immediately: if it’ll make the show better lets do it. They showed him what to do at the last second. He then took - as Austin described: the worst stunner ever lol…. But Stone Cold said that regardless, he didn’t have to do any of it.

5:00 when Shawn became friends 123 Kid, Diesel, Razor Ramon, and Hunter in 95, it seems like they found a loophole in their own creative control, they wouldn't face anyone, and they would only lose to each other, maybe they would all get one loss for every four wins but only against each other ?? they got on so well as friends thats when they decided they would only lose to each other, contractually, and that led to people like Jarrett and Shane "Dean" Douglas missing IC title opportunities, and Bret Hart having a long mid card run in 1995 while the tag team, IC title and WWF Championship were locked in the rotation of Michaels, Diesel and Razor Ramon. Shawn and Diesel were made tag champions at house show the day before a PPV, and then Shawn and Diesel "split up" while they were champions. Hogging the titles for no reason and taking a title match away from the Headshrinkers etc..

As much as I think The Kliq positively impacted wrestling it was also negative. Just the other day i rewatched some of Bret’s matches and the fact of the matter is had he stayed in WWE/F the history of the entire company would be drastically different. Vince always ruins everything smh 🤦‍♂️
@Wildberryjamband
@Wildberryjamband 2 жыл бұрын
@@woahitsesco Vince didn't want to pay Bret the same as WCW offered him - if Bret got a raise like that, then Shawn would have gotten an extra million as well. Vince was probably more interested in keeping Shawn in the WWF, because the Kliq / NWO was in WCW and if Shawn went there, they might have really crushed WWF/Raw. It sounds like he knew all along that WCW was just going to waste their money on Bret and he was willing to let that happen instead of losing Shawn to the NWO.

I never watched Bret wrestle, and imo he was always presented as someone who, although they were hard done by, was also kinda whiny and over the top.... But like, over the past couple of years i really have come to understand the entire context of the situation, and I respect this man so fucking much for how he has handled everything. Fuck Lloyds, when you think about it, they really are the villains in the story, even more so than Vince / Goldberg / Shawn. If they paid him his contract, it's at least a SOMEWHAT bittersweet ending, but their greed and the heartlessness of Capitalism absolutely robbed this man of what he was OWED. There is a reason he had a contract worth that much money. (i mean, other than WCW being WCW) He is 'The Best There Is, the Best There Was, the Best There Ever Will Be'. Lloyds screwed Brett should be the new slogan coming out of this, everyone else has at least somewhat of a motive that you can understand.
@furnitureconsortium
@furnitureconsortium 2 жыл бұрын
I take it, you’re not clued in as to who Lloyd’s Of London are? They’re not a wrestling company, they’re a high-end insurance company. If a celebrity needs an asset insured, they use Lloyd’s Of London. In that time frame (1990’s) a lot of wrestlers took out policies with Lloyd’s for themselves for major injuries. Rick Rude had a policy when he hurt his back and had to retire. That’s why he never came back to wrestle because Lloyd’s paid out the contract to him. For a contract as large as Bret’s with WCW, he would have been a fool not to have a policy with Lloyd’s because clearly WCW was not going to honor the contract if they let him go. I’m assuming that they (WCW) either didn’t have a guaranteed contract with Bret or they paid Bret a lump sum when they let him go. I don’t know where Bret gets his $16 million number from, I thought his contract with WCW was for three years and he signed that in December 1997. I think he had a year left on his contract when he was let go (2000). Unless WCW signed him to a new contract in 1999 or 2000 that I’m not aware of. EDIT: I’m dumb, his original contract would have run out in December 2000. So, I’m guessing WCW re-upped with him for another three to four years for the same money. But, then again….he was out of wrestling for that last year due to his concussion, so why would WCW re-up for the same terms if the wrestler might retire due to their injury? Well….I know…..it IS WCW we’re talking about here, lol It wouldn’t surprise me one bit

@andrewmachado6988
@andrewmachado6988 2 жыл бұрын
It was technically Bobby Lashley VS Umaga, with Trump in Lashley’s corner, and McMahon in Umaga’s corner, with Steve Austin as a special referee, and it was a “loser gets their head shaved” matched. If Lashley lost, trump got his head shaved, if Umaga lost, McMahon would get his head shaved. Lashley won and McMahon got his head shaved.

Sure I heard he viewed Vince as a father figure, which might have part of it. As for Shawn, Bret isn't entirely blameless for what happed, but given how bad their relationship was, I think when you cross a line, there is no going back. But Bret said they had a cordial relationship.

Since I'm currently going through the Attitude Era week by week and PPV by PPV on the Network, I've seen a lot of Bret Hart lately. I've realized he has aged pretty artificially. What I mean by that is the way Bret looks today looks what would happen if you'd taken the Bret from the 90s and asked a artist to draw him 30 years older. He's got wrinkles and grey hair but a bit of plastic surgery and some black hair dye and he'd look exactly like he did all those years ago.

@@tomer_stern I taught English in Taiwan when Trump was running for president, and my adult students kept showing me videos of Trump being "violent" on their cellphones, asking me if it was real. The background said "Wrestlemania". They usually showed me a video of Trump slapping Vince, up on the stage, I think? That may have been a Raw or something not WM, I didn't watch WWF/E at the time so I don't know this period well. I had to explain so many times... yes.. this is a real video, but it's JUST A TV SHOW. They all thought it was a legit video of Trump getting mad and hitting someone... I really question the judgement of these people sometimes..

Hmm. He seems pretty adamant that this whole Trump VS McMahon match actually happened. And i don't want to hear the bs "oh we know what he meant" argument. He's referring to being able to complete in a theatrical match where he's not involved in any contact because of watching this "Trump/McMahon" match. The Lashley/Umaga match that actually happened doesn't even remotely resemble that statement. This dude actually thinks that Trump & McMahon wrestled a match lol

@@billanddougsuck lol or he's taken a few too many hits... maaann lol i don't have any issues with Bret, I'm just saying most people assume he got things crossed up and Ive worked enough signings with him to know he knows exactly what he says and means to say. I honestly think he didn't watch the product at that time and just heard McMahon & Trump had a match and without watching it assumed it was just those two in a match and to this day has zero idea that it was actually Eddie & Lashley that wrestled the match. That cost him his million dollar Lloyds of London insurance payout.
