Likely because it's one of the few(only?) gas engines in this video. Diesels are luggish and heavy and just don't have the hp to get wheel speed fast.

Do the muppets that get bogged ever stop and ask themselves: "how come I got bogged, but other rigs (heavier etc) can get through so easy?"...ANSWER: drop your effing tyre pressures!!!!!!
@Aidan.174 жыл бұрын
Bill Roach its probably more then that too. I wonder if they have left DSC on as well. You need to turn it off or you will have a bad time on sand even if you drop tyre pressures down to 15 PSI.

@@Aidan.17 tire pressures and wheel speed. you spin, you dig, you fail.
@Gunshy554 жыл бұрын
@@Aidan.17 Exactly right. Traction control in sand = "instant bogged". All tyres naturally spin in sand and the DSC uses the brakes to stop them spinning and brings you to a halt. I use high range, 84 Kpa (12psi) and no traction control where I go and the sand is a lot softer there. That is not soft sand!

I was there on this day, what a comedy of errors. From the fellow in the BT50, trying to knock out his towing hitch to put in a recovery hitch, with the locking bolt still screwed in. To the Patrol giving it full curry to snatch someone out, when someone asks what PSI he is at, replies snidely, "I have lowered it to 25" To the rolly polly fellow at about 19mins, pushing between the vehicle and trailer, of a vehicle getting snatched out, and almost gets squashed when the vehicle suddenly gets unstuck.

Looking at these videos from Ireland, we are amazed to see all the big overland prepped trucks and it looks amazing fun. What is difficult to understand though, is that given how common this kind of thing is in Australia, why does it seem like hardly anyone has a clue how to drive on soft sand given driving on it appears to be common practice. Worse though, is the way people stand around next to vehicles being snatched. I wouldn't even snatch someone is bystanders refused to get out of the way when asked.

I'm seeing the best way to snatch-recover (from the recovery car perspective) is to let off just at the moment of snatching, so many cars dig in because they gas it and just bury themselves, best to let off, don't dig in, then apply gentle power to keep moving. If you stop dead at the snatch point, better to throw the clutch in, back up and have another go.
