What i love about Metalocalypse is that the music isn't half assed. Brendon Small actually writes just like a regular Death Metal musician. Even the lyrics are on point with brutal death metal while still being thought out in a clever manner.

The songwriting is amazing... The production, however... maybe it's just me but I've always HATED the way the albums sound. It just really sounds SOOOOOO overproduced... like nobody was even in the same room. And maybe that's a personal thing... like I prefer to record live, with a vibe and a feeling, but man... the mixing is just muddy as hell (except for the guitars, of course) and the drums SOUND like they're direct-in from a drum machine. I'm probably alone in this, but the production sounds like pop music... and in my opinion hardcore/metal should have a more visceral feeling to the production. Then again, I'm not the biggest fan of speed metal. I'm more of a doom metal/shoegaze guy... and it's my understanding that Metallica fans LOVE "And Justice for All" (even though, objectively, that record sounds like absolute shit) so... I think maybe it's a choice?

All of the guys in Between the Buried and Me are big jazz nerds, but you'd never be able to tell from their music... well... the style of it, at least. Honestly, I love that the hardest music in the world, today, is usually written by guys that are like, "Yeah... I'm just gonna chill out with my green tea, and a good book" because I look back at the days of the hair metal "butt-rock" guys, and I just feel second-hand embarrassment for them. Like... all the dudes in Motley Crue are still desperately clinging to the days of their twenties, and it's like... they just look pathetic... The whole scene was pathetic...

Brendon you fuck! Youve captured the heart of all beginner guitar players around the world and *don't even know it* ! 18:29! We all feel shitty compared to the actual professionals we listen to daily . We will never match the skill until we believe in what *practice* is. "tokies not a shitty guitar player, he gets nervous"! That is exactly what happens. "Im also tokie because I remember being a young guitar player: that ,for me, is me inside of toki". You are us when you were younger! "skwisgaar is the guy i wish i were" holy shit how many parallels do i need to make! you are the shining example of what practice and dedication will get you.

I met Gene at the Channel in Boston. Dark Angel was on the Time Does Not Heal tour. The singer Ron Reinhart had a broken arm because he dumped his Harley and the clutch handle went through the skin and pushed the elbow out. I walked over to Gene and we talked for a bit before he went on. He was using a rented drumkit from the band EZO. Of course he fucking nailed it! They all did. Brett Hoffman, from the band Viking, had just joined the band. Check out their album Man Of Straw. They were all amazing,. Eric Meyer and Brett worked very well together. And of course us old Dark Angel fans will always remember Eric and Jim Durkin playing so well together. There was a rumor that ex singer Don Doty was there that night but i didn't see him,.

Tracking guitars is the bane of my existence but it's what i live for. I empathise completely about how precisely parts have to be tracked. You know, I think the fact that the songs are rushed is partly the reason why they come out soooooo good. Your not sitting there overthinking every single sound and tone, your essentially forcing the song to stay simple, and the first initial thought of how you think the song should sound ends up being exactly what the song is. @PeteRuska9 жыл бұрын
I like it more than Dethalbum but I think Dethalbum II is better than III. Dethalbum was pretty much just "stereotypical", because that's what Dethklok is meant to be, a stereotypical metal band but the best metal band in the world. In Dethalbum II I think they got serious as fuck and went way pass their potentials. And in Dethalbum III I think they were going for the stereotype but with a Dethalbum II feel, like they were going for the stereotypical metal sound but made it serious as well, which is why it's not as good as Dethalbum II but better than Dethalbum imo.
