I just sold my 2008 Range Rover with 74k miles. Surprisingly one of the best cars I have ever owned. I was very sad when it pulled away. My wife and I figured out it was like driving a BMW on steroids. Fortunately I had a mechanic that was able to work on the car. So, if you’re wondering what I replaced it with you’ll be quite happy to know it was another Range Rover 2017. 30k miles and still under warranty just like the last car. So enjoy your new car and good luck with your channel.

Quick note to yourself and anybody else.. for Powerful UK, if you could order directly from their site, it means more money in their pocket as they will need to pay eBay about 10% fees. Thank-you! A GX460 may be the safe option, but they're still great cars. I had an LS400 which I loved - and I have always been curious to try out a Lexus 4x4 to see if they are similarly great. Going from a Lexus to a RR would definitely be a bit of a culture shock though!

The interior has really improved visually with all that hard work Sam. I'm a long time Landie fan, having had a series 3 109 with a V8, as a daily driver for a couple of years after I gave it a full wheels up rebuild and put the V8 in it. I also had a 1969 series2 swb as a trialler before building a true trialler from a Range Rover classic much, much shortened chassis middle, front and rear complete with fully opening 14" wide rear doors! Then series 1 V8 Disco for ten years which I converted to run on LPG, then series2 V8 already on gas. Sadly circumstances forced me to sell that due to the insurance cost after an accident. And now I run a bloody Toyota Yaris ! Lol But I still very much miss my Disco, and all things Landie.
@SamsMotors

Yaris's are good little cars but no Landy substitute! Maybe you could pick up a cheap Discover V8 and run it on a low mileage classic insurance policy to keep the costs down?

I just bought a 2009 facelift 3.6. I would get the rear arch liners out and pull the plastic sills off, I had to rustproof, paint and cavity wax my rear sills/arches. The steel is very poor on these later L322's and the rear arches/sills get dirty and blocked, rot soon starts. One rear arch has a hole in it. My 3.6 gearbox is quite clunky, done 140k. The 8 speed is supposed to be a lot better, however mine will be used as a second local car so a dpf was asking for issues. I had to recolour the steering wheel with a kit off ebay, magic sponges work on most things including door cards. Nice purchase, brave buying from that dealer. Mine flew through its mot bought it with 2 months which was dodgy, my rear also sits a bit low. Subscribed!
@SamsMotors
@SamsMotors 3 жыл бұрын
Cheers Craig, thanks for the advice. Definitely a good idea to have a look around the arches - I noticed mine has a bit of bubbling paint around the inside, so I will follow your advice and get it all pulled out. Your gearbox would likely be improved by doing an oil change and adaptation reset I think. I've done two ZF boxes now, one 6HP like yours and one 8HP in my BMW. Both times it did improve the smoothness of the box. I'll be doing my Rangie at some point as I have no idea if it has ever been done at 190k (!). The only downside is the cost of the oil, and the procedure is a bit of a faff.
@dave216dx
@dave216dx 3 жыл бұрын
@@SamsMotors There are plenty of oils you can use other than ZF for the 6hp & 8, (They both use the same synthetic oil ), In australia we can buy 20 liters by a company called gulf western for $170Aud which will do two flush and changes on the 6hp (not sure if the 8 holds more oil), Ravenol would be one to check first in your country.. Looking forward to watching more ... youve bought one of the finest cars in the world and i think youl find ownership not as costly as people make out.. Sam two things to check the 4.4tdv8 do leak water at the back of engine. The thing to check asap is the small hose that comes from the top of the engine. This hose goes to the 4 way fitting on radiator hose it becomes very brittle as do the fitting connections. The pump will empty your system pretty quick I lost 3 litres in seconds from getting out of the car to the front.

4.4tdv8 do leak water at the back of engine. luckily the low level warning comes on quick as it is on the bottom of expansion tank, you can be fooled as the sensors have a tendency to stick giving false alarms ignoring it will be expensive.There is a solution to the broken fittings I will post later.

If you are expecting a full dealership experience and a fault-free car, it's definitely not for you. If you know what you're looking at and are willing to take a managed risk for a potential saving, it's ideal. Here's the link: www.ebay.co.uk/usr/carswithnoreservereading MPG wise I am getting around 25mpg commuting to work which is a mix of city and A-road driving. Hi mate, regarding the leather balms, dont bother with them. You cant feed modern leather as its coated and sealed. All the balm does is sit on top of the coating and attract dust.When you get in and move around on the seat, that dust acts like abrasive. Best to just use a gentle leather cleaner and keep them vaccumed.

My advice would be to start off by tackling smaller jobs yourself, and then as you gain confidence and tools, start to take on more challenging stuff.

Thanks for that Sam, sounds like a good way to approach it. Reminded me that when I was in my 20's (long time ago), I had this absolutely awful 4X4 from Poland called an Aro, if I remember correctly, and I used to do everything on it myself from welding bit of chasis to making seals for slave cylinders out of bits of leather, simply because we had no money and you couldn't get the parts for it. So I have probably become more lazy in later years. But seeing people like you getting in there and doing the work yourself is inspiring. Cheers Phil! The 322 would make a great 7 series replacement I think, as long as you're more into 'waft' than handling. I've had quite a few high milers now, and although I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who's not mechanically inclined and willing to spend their free time fettling, it can be a great way to get terrific value.

feel sorry for me i cant clean my car often as i live in a flat with no allocated parking so on main road and it gets really dirty as all the dust and muck off construction lorries gets on it, really why dont the foremans on these building sites get their drivers to clean the lorries before they leave a site at end of the day?

Hi Thomas, it's SDD V159. I'm using a Mongoose Pro cable with it. Both were purchased together from car tool.co.uk for about 30 quid. You'll need windows 7 32 bit to install it, or a virtual machine running it.

Would you consider EDT engine cleaning or similar and diesel fuel system cleaning for a high mileage vehicle, NOT THE LITTLE BOTTLE FLUSHING CHEMICALS FROM HALFORDS, EUROPARTS ETC.....
@SamsMotors
@SamsMotors 3 жыл бұрын
I've not heard of EDT but I assume it is a carbon cleaning service or something along those lines. As an automotive engineer I can't say I've seen any scientific evidence to prove the effectiveness of such a treatment. But on the other hand, there are lots of positive reviews from people saying this sort of thing has noticeably improved their car. Perhaps I will look into it in more detail at some point.
@robinford4037

@@SamsMotors i looked into it. seems to affect certain GDi engines or vehicles with drivers who obey the speed limit and don't rev beyond 1800rpm. You seem to be someone who would get annoyed when you realise it wasn't a motorway cop but a highways maintenance 4x4 and you slowed down for nothing😇

@SamsMotors
@SamsMotors 3 жыл бұрын
Definitely. It's a lot cheaper and more powerful than a standalone tool like the IID tool, but it's not as convenient as you have to have the laptop to use it obviously. And for a lot of stuff like updating software or calibrating modules, you need to have a power supply connected to the car battery to keep the voltage above a threshold.

I mean, why not? Personally, I really can't see myself ever needing more than the standard 313bhp and 700NM - but I can definitely see the attraction. There are people running nearly 400bhp from these engines seemingly quite reliably. However, I'd be worried about the gearbox, as I think it is close to the torque limit already.
