When the TV series began there were immediate queries about the theme. Barrington Pheloung had given the piece the title "A Cry from the Heart". Very appropriate for this version especially.

I love that Pheloung used the rhythm of morse spelt out in morse for that repeated intro note.

After all these years these theme brings me to tears. Amazing to know you're the man with the magic guitar... thanks a lot! I'm constantly "replaying" Morse and it's always an emotional journey... of course Barrington Pheloung's music is a fundamental part of the experience! Bravo!!!

The spelling of M-O-R-S-E in single notes of Morse code at the beginning and end is utterly brilliant. Such excellent playing to do the entire theme on a single guitar. Bravo!

Evidently occasionally the composer would spell out the killers name in Morse code with the music.

Utter perfection. When you started playing my ears were instantly engaged, my brain was hooked and spirit rose higher and higher: as you developed the theme and subtle harmonies I had a tremulous moment of doubt that you’d lose the fragile beauty of the piece. I was wrong, your performance was perfection from start to finish. I’m awestruck.

This is a lovely rendition of the the Barrington Pheloung theme for Inspector Morse! Nicely done!! One of my all time favorite series and loved the music to this all time classic series. Thank you Carlos Bonell, this is so precious!

This almost has a sort of renaissance-style to it. The song itself, that is, but hearing it on solo guitar really brings it out.

yeh, you're right, I hadn't noticed that before. Imagine it on a lute. But it's also Bonnell's phrasing.

Perfect, a beautiful piece gracefully performed. Thank you. I associate this tune with my closet friend from the 1990's; a wonderful musician who sadly lost the grasp on harsh reality. I think a 12 hour piano practice schedule finally took its toll.

What a wonderful performance! Great to hear you again Carlos Bonell. Thank you for publishing this. I have some of your LPs from the 1970s in my collection. Castlenuovo guitar concerto I think. (I just wish whoever made the recording had noticed that there is a buzz in the right channel that sounds like distortion on the attacks of the plucked notes.)

I think I watch the show for the theme, the theme is way better than the show. Though it does get consistently better by 4th or 5th season.

Why must they cut from the guitar mastery with melodramatic shots? Over ambitious film makers think they're superior to the sublimity of music. Such a beautiful guitar piece and hard to source a score for us. We must therefore endeavour, without the aid of tablature, it will never match Carlos Bonell.
