Even though asbestos is excluded from home inspection standards of practice, there are a number of asbestos-containing products that your home inspector might point out to you.

Great info mate. A separate video on vermiculite would be awesome. If you do decide to do it, it would be great if you could contrast some visual tell tell signs on how to differentiate it from old weathered dusty blown cellulose. -Cheers

This is an amazing video! It really helps me a lot in understanding the real facts of asbestos as a homeowner who lives in an old house. Please continue to produce more must-know home hazard series(such as lead) as many people care about their house environment.

Hi @Structure Tech Home Inspections, Thank you for this very good and important article! Unfortunately there is still a lack of education about the possible uses of asbestos in many parts of the world. Whether in floors, screeds and leveling compounds, electrical installations, in tile adhesives and joint compounds, the mastic of windows and doors, as well as in many other materials in and around the house - there are countless possible areas of application of asbestos that surprise even experts again and again. So please, particularly in the case of renovation and refurbishment work, exercise the greatest caution and play it safe! Even a small material sample is sufficient to determine in a professional test procedure whether a suspicious material contains asbestos. If the commissioned analysis confirms the suspicion of asbestos, have any work on it carried out exclusively by service providers with the necessary certificate of competence. This is the only way you can be sure that there will be no accidental contamination of your living space or clothing with asbestos fibers. Stay healthy!

Wow, I never thought about it that pop corn ceilings contain asbestos, never thought about it enough to Google it. However it's my understanding pop corn ceiling textures were very trendy in the 1960s, right along with avocado green, teal blue, or lavender colored kitchen appliances and bathroom fixtures.

Coming out of home inspection training EIFS was highlighted as being the material to lookout for...I haven't heard of new stucco being a issue until your videos and podcasts I must say. Though more eifs than new stucco in my area. Got a link to get that siding removal tool btw?

Asbestos left alone and in good condition is actually a great product. Loose asbestos insulation is probably the most dangerous. Asbestos in tiles isn't an issue. You can also encapsulate it over simply go over with it with another flooring material. You may also find it in your popcorn ceilings and it usually contains 2-10% asbestos. If you wet the materials well and wear correct masks, removing it isn't so bad.
