Girl I fancied at a BBQ party was telling me about how much she loved this band, how they were timeless. It didn’t go anywhere with her, and I can’t remember her anymore as that was 15 odd years ago. But I still remember Inspiral Carpets, so she will always have my thanks.

I am from Moscow, and d like to say that I grew up listening to the inspiring, great British rock music of the 20th century( mainly progressive and psychodelic rock) . Without it my life would so poor. Some of the most significant days in my life were when i visited Roger Waters’s and Deep Purple concerts , when they were here in Moscow. This music can equally praise up to the sky and destruct us and that’s why it has always been so breathtaking. Thank you Great Britain for your culture, for your style, for your music and for dreamy, talented boys from your industrial cities , who had been creating some of the most beautiful non material heritage of our world

@@boogieboy1974 no Craig was the drummer. Apparently he struggled with tinnitus for couple of decades, it caused sleep deprivation,anxiety and in the end he couldn't deal with it anymore. Or That's what I read at the time. Sad state of affairs, the guy had wife and kids. Terrible for all concerned

As an American I was fortunately introduced to the Inspirals and the Manchester scene by an incredible Toronto music station (cfny). Sad to hear of the passing. Along with the Charlatans, might be one of the better and certainly least appreciated bands ever here in the U.S. RIP and prayers to the family, friends and fans.

I'm now 51 years of age and loved this song when it first came out. When ever "This Is How It Feels" is played on the radio with it's dark melodys with a happy beat keeps going around my head for the rest of the day. It's with out doubt a one off quality tune that could ever be repeated..Pure fucking class to the Inspiral Carpets :) :) :)

As I approach 50 years on this planet the things I wish I'd believed when I was younger are :- 1. Youth is wasted on the young! 2. You'll never be happier than you were when you were a school kid. 3. Do you think all of the USA is warm and tropical?! I am from Manchester too but I know enough about the US to know that the majority of it has vastly worse winters than we do. Super cold winters with sub zeros and snow. Also, a large part of the US suffered the working class break down that Manchester suffered in the 80s. The 'Rust belt'. It has as much depression as Manchester.

I don't know if it is coincidence but I started to develop tinnitus in my late 30s, despite never listening to things on 'loud', I thought I would just have to live with it. However, at the age of 39, last year, I decide to quit alcohol (I've been a bit of a heavy boozer, probably a 'normal' level for a northern bloke) and in the past year my tinnitus has slowly but surely subsided. As I say, it may be coincidence, but it has almost completely gone away now. They do say high blood pressure can be a contributing factor to tinnitus and heavy boozing is a contributing factor to high blood pressure. It might be worth exploring (of course, that is if you are a drinker to start with!).

Hello 👋 to everyone who may read this. I was four years old in the US in 1990, so I got into this music and Madchester much later. I think I'm still drawn to late 80s and 90s alternative music because its sounds are the soundtrack to my younger days, like so many people in the comments. Guitar music ruled the world then! Part of me knows that there are still kids, even now, in garages playing with their friends and writing songs that will go all over the world one day. I'm glad we can come to a "place" like KZfaq and share our appreciation for great music, no matter where we're located or how old we are!

I'm 48, saw these at the boardwalk in Manchester in 1987 aged 17 - still remember it. We used to go 3-4 times a week from Oldham in my mates dad's car, saw hundreds of manc bands but this one sticks in my mind.

RIP Craig Gill I know what its like to have that screeching all the time and Ive battled depression most of my life. This song always pulled me round and kicked me up the arse! Keep playing tunes for the angels dood! One of the greatest songs of all time!

Unbelievably good - one of the all-time greats. Great lyrics, great music, great melodies - depth and sentiment. Gets you every time. My favourite Madchester song - I used to work in a bottle shop in Hale and serve Tony Wilson and partner every week; never offered any free tickets!!

I was born when this song came out. I remember being like 4 or 5 in the house, mum dad playing this on vinyl, Tune for family I think was B Side. But in the house they also had on like Stone Roses, Charltans, happy Mondays and James. Songs stay with you forever and never be tied to one genre, be open to all music.

This is literally my theme tune to 2022. This year makes no sense to me. I lived for 50 years before this nonsense and I have no idea what happened. Thank you so much for making this song. I will never tire of hearing this, and after twenty plus years of dealing with severe depression it gets more and more personal every year, I've gotta say though I do love the Carter USM cover version as well.

I heard this song for 1st time ever in 1991 when I was 13. A local TV producer brought these guys to my city Córdoba, Argentina. They played in the TV , no one knew this band , and if they played in the city that time, probably 10 people went to to see them. I remember this video used to scare me a little bit haha. But kept in my mind always this band name , now I find this song and this band very good

Wow. The memories. The Madchester Scene, the burgeoning rave scene. All the great bands of that time. There was something in the air, it was bristling. Incredible. I had this in my sony-walkman and just let the whole (great) album play (good old 'autoreverse' :). What happened to music guys? WHAT HAPPENED? The shit of today cant hold a CANDLE to the good vibe we had then.

Time moves on my friend. I personally loved the seventies but I'm older than you. Each generation remembers fondly the music of their youth. Doesn't make it the best though. We all had a good 'vibe' as you call it in our day.
