Tintin: It's over!
Captain Haddock: I thought you were an optimist.
Tintin: You were wrong, weren't you? I'm a realist.
Captain Haddock: Ah, it's just another name for a quitter.
Tintin: You can call me what you like. Don't you get it? We failed.
Captain Haddock: Failed. There are plenty of others willing to call you a failure. A fool. A loser. A hopeless souse. Don't you ever say it of yourself. You send out the wrong signal, that is what people pick up. Don't you understand? You care about something, you fight for it. You hit a wall, you push through it. There's something you need to know about failure, Tintin. You can never let it defeat you.

It's such a good but simple message. Don't ever short sell yourself, there's other people that will bring you down. You got to keep going.

Seriously Peter Jackson, where's the blasted sequel!?! It's listed as a 2027 release according to IMDb but man are there so many stories to adapt. This one is really Spielberg's most underrated and underappreciated film . We all know ET, Raiders and Jurassic Park but the fact that he took a largely obscure comicbook character like Tintin and gave it so much heart, humanity and a sense of adventure which is what he excels at is impressive.

"You hit a wall you push through it!" There's actually a great many interesting points here. I could be wrong, but that seems to be something Haddock has held onto from years past, possibly something he was even taught by someone in particular. Judging the motives behind Haddock's actions (drinking, moping, and acting as a general rouge) we find that he is actually a very depressed person who mourns the death of the only person in his family who seemed to care about him - his grandfather. It seems safe to theorize that the whole monologue there that he gave to Tintin - absolute start to absolute finish - was taught to him by his beloved grandfather. It may have even been the source of the hidden hint about knocking down the wall in the cellar later on. After all, it was his grandfather who walled it up..

Very interesting point! Tin tin is based of the authors child hood as a Boy Scout. How ever herge (the author) was a deeply troubled and depressed man, his own therapist said he was working himself to death. So haddock was seen as himself, the child in him tin tin urging haddock to go on. Herge believed Steven Spielberg was the only man capable of truly adapting tin tin, I think it’s fitting in his movie haddock can finally tell the kid in herge to go on.

Being pessimist or realist is just the same thing. Its true u won't get hurt but the same way you can't achieve the impossible, only an optimist can do the impossible so always be positive and keep moving forward and never give up.

I read about the difference between the optimist and realist. And tbh, it does confuse me.I see there is a difference there. Maybe in a situation where the tendency might be impossible to do, the realist gave up. While the optimist doesn't. But to see this situation, Tintin gave up and then see the opportunity that it might have been possible. And the probability is high. So does that mean Tintin is still a realist or an optimist? I still think he is a realist if that's the case. While an optimist might have been blindly still try to do the things by chasing the bad guys Or i was wrong because optimist is not blindly ignore the negative sides too and actually take calculations to achieve the so called impossible? 🤔 And maybe you're right in a sense. If Tintin hadn't felt that it might have been possible to do so, he wouldn't be thinking the solution itself. But is that really the true? I think i need to read more about iy

The difference here is being an Optimist means you have hope things will change if you keep clinging on . A realist knows their limits yet lets just that limit themselves in what they can and can't do . A Fighter however sees those limits, stacks themselves up against impossible odds, and say " Yeah, I'll have a go ! " Not everybody can make it out in the end, but if there's even a chance you can get out alive, you take it .

I really like how in my language they’ve translated the wall part „I hit a wall, then break it with your head”. For me, it is way more inspiring as you should fight no matter what even if there is nothing around to push through that wall, use your head instead, break through that wall even if you will die in process

But why does Captain Haddock has a Scottish accent?

If memory serves it's just the way Spielberg and Andy Serkis decided to adapt Haddock (maybe due to his alcoholism, which was toned down in the cartoon) in the comics he doesn't really have any accent. The animated series gave him a bit of a Northern Irish/Ulster accent, but again, it's just adaptation.
