insta360 - The Cheapest Drone Shot EVER! - Explained

Create your own Drone style shots with this Magic set up!
Well.. it's a pretty low flying drone but I reckon it looks super cool.
All you need is a Camera (360 one makes it easier) and a Harness mount.
Equipment i used:
Camera: Insta360 One R - www.insta360.com/sal/one_r?in...
K4 Harness Mount: www.k4fins.com/product/long-k...
WARNING: (i've been told i need this on the video)
The pole cam is for advanced sailors only. If the pole is too long it can make Water starting hard or could catch on the rig. So be careful and only use in conditions where you are comfortable and make sure you have a good level of windsurfing!
WARNING: I’ve had a few issues with the camera since making the video and will give you a full review soon. At the moment I don’t think it is working out as the best Windsurfing camera for the WAVES.

FINALLY we can see if wave-sailors' and free-stylers' verbal descriptions of what or how they do in their moves actually matches what the camera shows! I expect this will probably shock many of them when they learn what they THOUGHT was happening in a move is somewhat different when they can look at themselves objectively and in slow motion!!

Have been looking forward to some of your shots. Imagine one of these on top of each marker buoy in slalom racing for some epic shots. I'm pretty sure they are able to live stream video when connected via a mobile device too. I've got the previous insta 360 the one x, and have tried a few different angles, including fashioning a mount across the clew end of the boom, perpendicular to the sail on the stick, which gives a similar perspective to the harness mount, but from knee height and also on a deck mounted stick behind the back strap as a follow-behind, spray and all, but the stick really makes water starting tricky as it gets in the way, especially with a bigger sail.

I agree with the potential that this could have for coaches. I have been wanting for some time to get coached, particularly on more advanced topics. But I sadly haven't been able to work a clinic into my schedule. With this, and a professional providing online feedback could seriously speed up progress on whatever issue I may be facing.

Mert Ozener totally agree.. hardest thing in windsurfing is getting someone to film you. I thought the Soloshot was the answer but it never really worked on a consistent level. But I’m looking forward to future version of that too.. I think it will come good 👍🏻

Bob hi mate.. yep you can. It’s 2 FCS (surf board screws) at the bottom and the pole slides out.

Yep not super cheap.. but I guess they will come down over time. For me it’s a bargain as I don’t have to pay anybody. I can do it my self.. so 500 Euro works out cheap haha

Great informative video Ben. How long is it going to be before we see some awesome crashes with this set up on Send it Sunday? Do you need a new computer to run the editing software, or could you run it on a relatively old Mac?

At a pinch you can edit on a phone as well. The same kind of key-frame functionality is available, and also some other functions that aren't available on the computer software.

jow Ben, Nico, was thinking to buy this camera for the same purposes ... untillll ... I heard or read somewhere that the One X had better stitching than the One R (distance between both cameras ...?). Any ideas about that ? I prefere the R for lots of reasons but this made me doubt. Anyway, to both: thanks for all the fun on my screen !! Simply phantastic !

Well this is my first Inst360 so no clue about the One X. I heard the battery wasn't good on the 'X' and you need a case? But i'm going to use it a bit first then post a bit of a review. But looks awesome so far 👍🏻

@@WindsurfingTV Yeah, it's true that the lenses are further apart but you only really see this if you try to take selfies with the side of the camera 😄. For action shots the stitching became even more seamless, so don't worry about that 👌

Totally fine.. shorter the pole the easier it is. For me if i can wear it and still stretch my arm up to turn it off/on its the right length. The one in this video is longer than that.

I was on a 7m and 116 board. Sagres is 3hrs from Lisbon airport... but only 1hr (and a bit) from Faro airport. Martinhal beach has a rental centre on the beach - Wind4All Really Nice guy - Joel runs it. They have actually just started doing Simmer. :)

I TOTALLY AGREE that this is a revolutionary device for coaching, but..... there's one potential drawback - in the past some image series depicted a move very well, but they may have been composed of a selection of shots taken on multiple successive "takes"! Now with this, you must ensure that any "take" you use for coaching has to be exactly flawless & perfect and exhibit no errors at all, such as hand not far enough down the boom, etc. Are you that confident, Ben, or are you going to produce dozens of "spot the mistake" videos now?? ROFLMAO!!!

Nikolaos Tzanopoulos I’ve had this one for years.. never snapped one. There is a safety rope from the harness that goes up the inside of the stick and attaches to the camera. When you fall the sticks stays behind you 😁 ... but yeah obviously the stick is there so when you fall you have to be aware. The longer the stick the harder it is.

Well I’m NOT sure it is better yet! As I’ve only used it once. But I tried the GOPRO Max and for me I really like the modular design of the inst360 one R. Damage the lens I can just replace that bit. For Not water activities (Mtb) I have Lens Gard’s which is super cool. The software and app is better. You don’t actually have to download it to your phone. It read it straight from the camera. You can have different lens without buying the whole camera.. and the accessories are cheaper that GoPro. Let’s see how it goes in a longer test. That’s the true test 👍🏻

Also, GoPro can’t do slow motion, Insta360 can. With the ONE R you get a normal GoPro And a Fusion at the price of only the fusion. It has a better form factor than the fusion. The app is much better and easier than GoPros. And Insta360 is known for its firmware updates, so the camera keeps improving, without you having to buy a new one. With modular design you will be able to upgrade certain parts only in the future... without having to buy a completely new camera. Insta360 is super innovative...

Windsurfing.TV i had never heard of the camera before this, after looking it up the camera sounds promising. Most of the complaints were about the editing software, so if that part is fixed maybe ill buy it instead of a MAX. looking forward to more in depth analysis and comparison videos 👌

Hi Ben. Have you had any issues with the camera overheating? I started using the 360 module and can't get the camera to record more than 23 minutes before shutting down due to it overheating. External temperature of the camera case was 53 degrees. I tried sticking it into a fridge but even there it would overheat after 45 minutes. It's kinda useless if you can't record more then 23 minutes before it shuts down. Also bummed on their workflow on FinalCut Pro. The fact that you have to transcode the footage first eat into valuable time. Why they can't just let you record in MP4 is beyond me. I really want to like this camera but at the moment I am seriously considering returning it.

@@huub8070 I think they stay firm with "you have to use the dive housing for surf style videos". In regards to the overheating some people have reported that the firmware was tweaked and that you can no record for longer periods. I haven't tested the latest firmware as I was tired of the camera and returned it for a GoPro Max. Haven't looked back.

Do you use a waterproof case? If not, how comes that all the modular parts stay together after a crash??

It fits in a Plastic Frame which holds it in place. But i have now killed a couple of camera sailing and crashing in the waves. No problems with Slalom/speed etc.. but i'm waiting to test their new camera. As that one seems better suited to hard water impacts.

fat2be well I can honestly say I’ve had one year and never broke or ripped a sail. But obviously it could.. my advise would be ‘Dont Crash’ 😁😂 it at least don’t crash on the sail 😁
