Thank you for making this. One problem...the JSON file I downloaded from your site was very different from what's in the tutorial. So once you get to 10mins of this video you're completely lost. And now I'm worried it's messed up things inside my GTM. Worth checking out because you skip over this bit quickly without much explanation.

Thanks for this tutorial. I went through all the steps and it seems to be working except for the ecommerce tracking. Having the same issues it seems as others with the add to cart / purchase tags. Hopefully there will be an update soon.

Excellent video and great instructions for a non technical user. I have noted that with the addition of GTM that many of my URLs are being flagged as "Needs Improvement" as a result of an increase in the LCP parameter to over 2.5 seconds. Any idea of a fix?

Hey Benjamin, thank for the video, I am following it and downloaded the .json container but when I import to GTM it shows 1 tag, but in your video it shows 2 tags (Add to cart) and (Purchase), can you please advise, thanks

Thanks for the great video, I can see the data being sent in GTM, however, the item ID is not variant specific? So it would not be sending full data to adwords for product campaigns or dynamic remarketing?

Hey Benjamin, I was quite impressed with your video and showing the tip of listing your Shopify store under "Excluded Referring Domains" in GA4 and Analytics. After doing that the Enhanced tracking fired in GTM, brilliant, but the orders does not show in GA4 under conversions and also not under Analytics E-commerce data. I'm wondering if that is because the domain is excluded as a referral? But it does fire in GTM so why can't you trace it in GA4? There seems to be a discrepancy. I'm hoping you can help me. Hi Benjamin, I have a question abot the custom events that you provided in your containjer. In the triggers you have mentioned that this trigger fires on all custom events. I don't understand this. For add to cart trigger, should'nt it get triggered for some custom events. and we could give condition that click classes must contain the class of our add to cart button. For purchase we could select some events and give condition for page url and d can speciify that it must contain url of the thank you page. Please let me know if that can be done

I noticed in GA4 I am getting the purchase recorded, but not the Item Category for the product, it is showing as Not Set for the item category. Can the Order Confirmation code that we added be modified to include the Item Category data for the product purchased?

By the way, the step where he says how to add myshopify as referral exclusion, in Google Admin - Data streams, it's not called More Tagging Options anymore. It's now "Configure Tag Settings"

Hi Benjamin! I'm trying to configure my datalayer without success, I don't see the information as Google suggests to see. All I see is some events that are not well configurated (like view item, select item, add to cart) the only one that's working is purchase. Any tips on how to configurate them? Thanks in advance!

it seems that you have updated the tags for add to cart and purchase, so you have merge all the events in 1 tag only

Hello Benjamin. Thanks a lot for your video explaining step by step the process. It's Great! Unfortunately I do not succeed in getting AddtoCart event fired. I have made the whole process twice but without any success. I used Shopify "second level" (so not the "basic" one) and I use the "Prestige" Theme. What should I do to get things working fine and getting major event "Add_to_cart" & "Purchase" of course? Thanks for your help Benjamin.

I am seeing my purchase event in tag manager, but NOT in the debug view of GA4. Could this be the issue - For the Purchase tag. Under Tag Configuration. Under More Settings, There is setting forEcommerce - Send Ecommerce data. Does that need to be checked? I looked at my tag that I imported and it is NOT checked.

Thanks for your video Ben, it has been very helpful! More helpful than the standard video from google analytics as it doesn't tailor to Shopify. However when it comes to testing GA4 purchase (connecting GA4 with our website and make a test purchase), mine doesn't connect with the "purchase" function. And I tried it 4 times, and this is still the same. Do you have a trouble shooting for this? And mine also don't have the "configure" button in google analytics for some reason. Do you know why this is the case?

And secondly, I followed all steps of your tutorial, but in the preview mode of my GTM the purchase event is not tracked, only the Add To Cart. What could the problem be? Thanks for helping

I cant answer your second question, but as for the first: I would suggest you understand JavaScript first. You can then easily pick up Liquid (both are used in the code shown here). Liquid is easy, if you understand basic programming, but it would be best to actually know what is happening so you can trouble shoot when you inevitably break your code. Good Luck on your quest!

For everybody who is experiencing issues with add to cart not firing. Same with me. Just pause that tag and create a new one, that will fire when clicking the button "add to cart". There are videos of how to do that. parameters will be button_class and value {{Click Classes}}. Trigger should fire on "some clicks" Click classes contains --> *your button class name*

@@urg454 have you added the code to your button? The top two issues I’ve found for people where it’s not working are; #1 they were using a different theme and didn’t know where to add the code, and #2 they found the add to cart button, but didn’t add the code.

I believe that one out of two should come to GA4d. If its a Purchase, Add to Cart shouldn't be reported and vica versa. What's shown in the video above i.e. both fired for same user is wrong. I think he fixed the file later on. For me currently, both are not firing in debug mode. Very frustated.

In the GA4 console I can see the total sum of the items added to the cart, but in the item breakdown I don't know which or how many were added. Anyone having the same problem?

Your tutorials are amazing! Been following you for awhile now, but when I try to publish the uploaded container from the youtube video I am getting this error: Invalid tag reference Google Analytics | GA4 | Ecommerce This tag references a tag {tagReference} that doesn't exist or has been deleted. Please either revert your changes or remove the reference to the missing tag. any ideas why that might be?

No, if implemented on the button, then it should fire on the button click.

I imported the json file, but it's different than the video. Instead of Purchase and Add to Cart triggers, there's an Ecommerce Events trigger. Is this just an updated version? Also, I see a variable called Undefined with Undefined Value as the type. What should that have been?

Hello when you deleted all other existing google site tag managers @ 3:39 to replace it with the new site manager code...why would you delete the old for new do they not optimize the same results? Does the New Tag offer a better read of products i'm guessing? I want to change them but i don't see why i should go through the extra work.. Please inform me Great video!

Hmm I don't know why did you choose such a difficult method to add shopify store with tag manager. It is a two step process but I don't know why you added data layer and a large piece of code in additional script
