Thank you Bryan for this comprehensive tutorial. Very helpful, as usual. At the end of it, you "do hope that [we] enjoyed the video" and I must tell you: sure I did !!! A few small notes, though: - probably, I would have stressed that the password required to open the SSH is that of OctoPi (which is much different from that of OctoPrint!) I found it after one day of frustration, only thanks to the help of the log that I always keep when I install new Sw or Fw, and thanks to the support that I got from a keen user on the OctoPrint forum. Bad for me! I should've studied better the difference between the two... but perhaps I'm not the only one out there ;-) - when I flashed the firmware on my Anet board, I had to switch the printer on. If it was off, the USB connection could not established (of course). I don't know if there are alternative methods, but - whatever the method is - I would stress it on your tutorial - [EDIT] the latest version of the "Klipper Firmware Configuration" menu [@ 7:52] has a further option now, which reads *`( ) GPIO pins to set at micro-controller startup`* , which should probably be addressed for those who have a less profound knowledge of the matter May be worth a slight re-edit of your tutorial... may be not... may be just a few footnotes. Thank you again !

@@BV3D yes, you're the first one who gave a proper explanation about the split of the "firmware" between the Raspberry pi program and the Klipper-specific firmware on the arduino board. Looking at the info from Klipper website, I was not able to figure that out Klipper has some advantages for older 8-bit microcontrollers (like the good old Anet A8, maybe Home CNCs) but now with many inexpensive 32bit board made by the Chinese (like the SKR PRO), Klipper is a bit late but still interesting to dig deeper (what you are doing), it will help many DIYers :)

Is it possible to controll two printers on one ocoprint instance or should every printer have it´s own octoprint? I saw that the printer used the printer.cfg. So i think i need to renamed it to somthing like printer1.cfg and pritner3.cfg but is this possible for klipper to use the one file for printer1 and use another file for printer2 and how must it be configured

@BV3D
@BV3D 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Sebastián, I need to spend a little more time with Klipper before I can make an accurate assessment of one versus the other. However, I do miss the ability to control the A8 directly from the LCD. But since most of my day-to-day printing is started and managed by OctoPrint, it's not a dealbreaker. I generally set up a Raspberry Pi with OctoPrint for each of my printers. I'll have some videos in the coming weeks which will cover some of the tuning needed to get Klipper dialed in on the Anet A8. Thank you for watching, and thank you for the compliment!

Hi Sebastián! Is that a "Piper" printer? Sounds cool! One of the things I'm noticing is that the A8 with a stock acrylic frame isn't terribly accurate when it's going fast, and I suspect it has a lot to do with the flexibility in the frame.

Hey great video... I'm using an Anycubic Chiron... what would I type for my config file? This video is specific to the A8. And would I need to install a boot loader on my printer first?
@BV3D
@BV3D 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Cody! There's not a pre-made configuration in Marlin 1.1.9 for the Anycubic Chrion, but Anycubic DOES have their Marlin-based firmware source code available on their Github page, at github.com/ANYCUBIC-3D -- there are two versions for the Chiron, 1.2.7, and 1.3.0. Marlin 2.0 has a preset config for an "Anycubic i3", but I don't know if they mean "i3 Mega" or just i3-style Anycubic printers in general. And I haven't used Marlin 2 at all yet, so I'm not going to be of any help if you get stuck. That said, I saw a video from Anycubic about installing .hex firmware files via Cura, so it looks like they've already got bootloaders on their printers.

Hi Muzz! Your second printer is the same as the one you've already got Klipper installed on, so assuming you've got a bootloader installed on it, you can pick it back up from the 9:14 mark, right after the "make" command finishes. Hope that helps!

@BV3D
@BV3D 4 жыл бұрын
@@Grumpyoldtwit I was going off the idea is that you've already used the *make* command to create the MCU firmware, so you wouldn't have to run through the configuration utility again. It _should_ work, since the printers are the same model. As for doubling up Klipper on the Raspberry Pi, it looks like it's possible, but you end up creating a second instance of Klipper on the Pi. I found where someone had done that, but the "how I did it" page they linked to was in Russian, so...? Personally I tend to run one Pi per printer just for convenience (and so that I can perform maintenance on one printer without interrupting a print on another printer). I usually opt for "easy" so I'd say get another Pi. If that's not in the budget, then check here: github.com/KevinOConnor/klipper/issues/1281 Start at about the 6th post in the thread (the "You misunderstand me" post); this goes all the way down to the final post, which is link to a Russian blog post. Google Translate can probably help you out from there. But do keep me updated on your progress. Also, how's Klipper working out for you on the Ender 3 Pro?

@@jasonshrout8921 If you are comfortable messing around with the Anet board, and you have a USBasp or some other AVR programmer available to you, you might try flashing the Arduino bootloader on the Anet board, and then going forward with your firmware of choice. I've got a video covering that, from a Mac user's perspective: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/adCdY92rrtTJdpc.html The TL;DR version is: install the Arduino IDE; add the SkyNet board definition file for the Anet boards; connect the USBasp programmer between the computer and the Anet board; and install the bootloader. Then install firmware, because installing the bootloader wipes the board's contents.

Right. Well, assuming you've got a bootloader installed on the Anet board, yes, everything's over USB. If you don't have a bootloader installed, you'll need to install one. @BV3D
@BV3D 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Chloe, I'll give you a kind of mini-update. This might end up becoming a video. Klipper keeps improving, and it now supports the Anet A8's clicky-button LCD. Klipper can take a little work to get set up, and it absolutely requires devoting a Raspberry Pi running OctoPrint to the project. If everything on the printer is stock, Klipper can easily drive the system faster than it can actually print. That said, the faster you go, less accurate printing is going to be on a stock A8. The acrylic frame is just too flexible, and the extruder can't melt plastic fast enough to keep up. I think maybe in a year or so, if Klipper keeps improving steadily, it may be a contender to Marlin. But Marlin's benefit is that you can have something that fits and works entirely on the printer's control board without having to have additional, external computing resources available (i.e., a Raspberry Pi). Marlin is also now officially at version 2, and runs on 32-bit control boards. On such a board, Marlin can also perform its computations, and execute its moves, more quickly. So I guess really, if you don't want to tinker with the printer a whole lot, I recommend staying with Marlin. But definitely put something besides the factory firmware on the printer, to guard against a thermal runaway condition. Thanks!
