I replaced two barrels in the commodore , one in a vp and the other in the vt. The vp failed and jammed in the barrel with the key in it whilst we were away camping. Had to force the lock to unjam it to get the barrel out. But unfortunately I did break the steering lock mechanism on the steering column. There was holden dealer and locksmith in Echuca. I managed to buy a barrel and have it keyed then I replaced barrel so we could get home. But fortunately, we lock the steering lock on the steering column. Lucky I was able to replace it soon after I got home. Vt barrel wore out , lucky I was able feel it catching so I replaced it before it broke. Great video Luke , brings back memories and nightmares! LOL

I'm usually snoring before ten, now days, got into the habit of trying to beat the sun up, and get as much daytime as can get, which doesn't work that well this time of the year. For me it's to damn cold to be out in the icy wind, and harder to convince myself to go outside. My jobs are moving along to slow for my liking. But it's a necessary job that's meant to keep me warm during winter and spring. Like the car, there's always something else that needs to be done! If only I had big shed over everything and a pot belly heating it up. Hmm! Now where have I seen one very recently? Cheers Mate, have a great Sunday! Hooroo!

Yep Luke... just recently had to do the same with my 2003 WJ/WG Jeep...and years ago with my sons VP commodore and my LJ Torana...hate working on steering columns or ignition barrels...awesome video mate!

Good to see the progress Luke, I'd say nearly complete, although what could be done about the flaking bonnet clear coat, it seems mainly the bonnet, would it need to be cut back to colour then resprayed, or a cheaper and as effective selective abrasion and application? The key factor! We're often replacing obscure battery types, and too many don't know the car's physical key is inside the to-the-eyes just a fob pressed into a housing ignition if the battery is dead, but the key withdraws from the fob to open the door when it won't operate the central locking. It's panic stations not knowing those options, especially if there's children involved. Locked in, locked out, contact point on the key not reaching the inner contact on the ignition, car won't start, off I go, mini screwdriver, spare battery, jumpstarter, several suburbs away, then back again. Small heroics through fiddly learning, from the everyday angelic heroics of fine people that build goodwill bonuses for all, don't blush, looking forward to good news with interest, it helps all that are in their own ways somehow somewhat or even a lot deprived, of whatever, to build up their own reserves, of knowledge, capabilities, capacities, and even capital, securing the folding or things we actually need, or need done for us, if we realistically can't, or shouldn't!
