Do you want to add the factory recovery hooks to your 1999-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee? This project is quick, cheap and fairly easy to do! I'll walk you thru the steps of how to remove your bumper, install the hooks, and put it all back together.

Glad I could help! Its a fairly straight forward install. My only suggestion: The grill on the older WJs is not a two piece, so it comes off together. Also, you may or may not have screws on the bottom corners of the grill as well - just make sure to double check those areas. Other than that... good luck and thanks for watching!

@@kendcc One thing I have noticed, especially in my salvage yard scavenging... is that a lot the fasteners that attach things are not original, or the assembly line just used whatever was on sale that week to attach stuff. The clips on the front fender wells of my jeep are different than the back. They do the same thing and are in pretty much the same locations... yet they are different. Either someone did some work on my Jeep prior to me owning it, or Inspector #12 was out to lunch when mine rolled down the assembly line. I'm glad that it was close enough to be able to help you out. Thanks for the guide! My 2000 WG Ltd (RHD) was a little different. Grill and bumper are integrated one piece and held on by screws around grill area. Fender bolts are std 10mm bolts rather than T-15. Nevertheless this guide really helped - especially with the locations of the clips, bolts etc. Don't think I would have got it done as easily without your guide. Thanks!

Yeah, the older ones were a single piece (unless of course they broke apart, which I have seen in the salvage yard). I did not know that the older ones were the standard 10mm rather than the T-15... good to know for anyone else that has the older ones... so long as you can find your 10mm socket!! @@eXperimentalJeep Thanks. The right hand drive WGs were manufactured in Germany. It may explain the differences in bolts. Of it might just be the assembly line situation that you described in one of you comments - use whatever is in the parts bin :). And I guess with a 21 year old jeep, someone may have had the front off before, and substituted 10mm. Anyway thanks again, it made a difficult job easy!

Where the fender meets the front bumper you didn’t put the lip of the bumper over that white retaining clip. Not a big deal but yeah

I have an 04 Limited so this will be very helpful!When I got my hooks online it didn’t come with those nut inserts so I’m worried I might need them. Are you able to see from the bottom if they are already in there or if you need to buy them and where would I find them if I do need them?

Yes, you can see... However it might be tough to see with the bumper cover on. I would recommend going to the hardware store (I've gone to Ace in the past) and pick up a a set for your hooks. That way, you can just start the project and if you have them up there already, you can take the new ones back... But if you don't have them, then you don't have to make a trip.tonthe hardware store missing your front bumper! Thanks for watching, and for the like!

That is literally the first "modification" I did to this WJ when I bought it. The old lenses were so cloudy that it just didn't seem worth it to try and restore them. I bought them off Amazon - here is the link: smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00V3P5XNK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I don't make any commission off that if you get them there... I just have been really happy with them! And if I have to do it again in 5 years, it's worth it to not have to try to revive dirty, cloudy bug covered plastic lenses! I got mine from a salvage yard... by far the fastest and cheapest option. If that is not an option for you - check eBay. There are always ones on there, but shipping is not cheap because of the weight. Good luck with your project, and thanks for watching!

These instructions will not apply to 1999. They have no torx nuts and the grille is held on completely differently to this model in the video.

Factory torque spec. on these mounting bolts is actually 40 ft. lbs., ding~dong.

And I am sure that there are factory specs for every bold on this Jeep. Since recovery hooks are meant mostly for... well... recovery, and are not a structural part of the Jeep, I didn't look it up, nor did I particurally worry about it. The point of faiure here is not the hook coming loose from its mounting bolt, rather from it being an open hook rather than a closed loop. Anyone who does any serious recovering would never use a hook - they would use a d-ring or wrap the strap/chain around the axle or other structural component. So... what these are mostly there for then... are looks. That is why the ones I got are chrome and newer Jeeps come with red ones - to make them stand out.
