SQL Server can be installed on your Windows 8 or 10 computer (with a 64-bit operating system) - that is most modern desktops or laptops; you do not need a server to install it on.

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 52 - Unable to locate a Local Database Runtime installation. Verify that SQL Server Express is properly installed and that the Local Database Runtime feature is enabled.) i have installed sql server developer edition. can you please help me to get through this error.

For some reason the current installer just skips from the install process straight to trying to automatically connect.. so some sql server.. and since I won't disable my firewall, not to mention the whole network it would be used in is off the grid.. it of course cannot connect, and promptly fails the entire thing with that 2068119551 general error, specifically 40 (Named Pipes Provider) "unable to connect to SQL server". It is dumb of them too. I am just now trying to install the server, then the manager tool.. so obviously there is no sql anything to connect to yet, why the heck is it trying to connect to something that has no way of existing?!?

Installing software from a USB, I got error code 27506 which is password doesn’t meet Windows Policy requirements because the password is too short. How can I keep the same length of the password and change it on the program file? Or is the only solution to shorten the windows required password?

Great tuto, that is up to date. Can the SSMS connect to any SQL server (with given permission, password, ports...) or only to Azure SQL servers?

Yes you can! I use it in my courses to connect to an SQL Server on my own computer, for example. Have a look at the rest of my channel, where you can see how to connect and create SELECT statements etc - or for something more advanced, have a look at my website, www.filecats.co.uk, where I have more advanced courses.

Hi Mark. "." is a shorthand for "localhost" - it is the SQL server that you have installed onto your computer. You could also use its full name as well, but "." works well for me! Keep learning! Phillip

Hi Tech. 10 Gb is the limit for SQL Server Express. Could you split your data into multiple databases? If you are using it for business, then you will need to upgrade. However, have you thought about using Azure SQL Database. That is US$3,300/month per vCore for General Business Use, together with $2.50 for 10 Gb/month - and you will always have the latest version of Azure SQL Database. That might be slightly cheaper than $55,000 for a year.
