The perfect DIY window tint install tutorial video, I took your suggestions on board, I've improved my technique, and other than a measurement error on my part, which worked out ok, it looks awesome! I hope this helps you with your project.

Here's a shout out! I brought my bulk roll of window film from; www.polyfilm.com.au/home-and-... and I am very happy with quality of product, the price, speed of delivery, even the quality packaging ensured that the product arrived un-damaged. (but this was locally in Australia)

FOR USE ON GLASS WINDOWS ONLY (inside surface) DO NOT apply to plastic or plexiglass windows
Instructions for applying the window tint to windows 1. Application Area
Please choose a dust free area away from wind and out of direct sunlight.
2. Pre-clean glass
*Thoroughly clean the outside and inside of the window that you will be applying the window film to with a soapy water solution. Be sure to wipe away dirt and grime from the surface. Note: Do not use a household cleaner or ammonia based cleaner to clean the window prior to installing the window film.
*Use a lint free cloth to completely dry the surface prior to applying the film.
3. Trim window film to fit surface
*Unroll the window film and identify the backing liner and tint sides. Note: The backing liner side of the film is slick and the film side is sticky.
*Place the liner side on the glass that you wish to apply the film to. You may lightly wet the surface to hold the film in place while trimming.
Note: Be careful not to apply too much pressure as to cut the property behind the film.
4. Remove Backing Liner
*Carefully remove the backing liner from the window film while still in place on the outside window. Tip: Use 2 pieces of adhesive on opposite sides of the film in a corner and peel apart. Spray the inner sticky side of the film lightly with the spray solution. Wet your fingers also to prevent leaving fingerprints when handling the film. *Now that the adhesive side of the film is exposed, handle carefully to avoid creasing and crimping.
5. Applying the window film
*Spray the inside surface of the window thoroughly with soapy solution.
*Carefully remove the film from the outside window surface and place the wet sticky side against the wet inside window surface. *Fold up the excess window film at the bottom of the window so it will not pick up and dirt or grime and trim.

Hey CA B, great question mate, because we are using it as a surfactant- any shampoo could be used, baby shampoo is recommended because its is relatively clear, neutral pH, and doesn’t negatively impact the adhesives in the film like a detergent may. Best of luck🤙 Kent

When I installed mine a few years ago, I didn’t even realize that there was a removable film so I ended up putting it on with the tint side facing the window and the removable film facing towards the inside of the room. It still stayed on there and sealed properly, and when I wanted to remove it, it came off with no issues. I’m sure that it was not intended to be installed this way, but it seems like film still worked just fine. Just another idea on getting tinting that is easier to remove since you mentioned that in your video. Anyway, thanks for the great videos! I’m going to install some more soon so I wanted to brush up on how to do it when I came across your videos. Great content!

Top video Kent, just wondering if you have any trouble with birds flying into the windows? I’ve been looking at ultraviolet window decals that are supposed to prevent window collisions, but I’m not sure if they work behind the mirror film, or if they only work behind the regular tint..

Tape to split is awesome! Also, if you roll up the tint inside out, separate just the too & spray the sticky side a bit & roll back up (tighter) the backing sticks to the outside film & just pulls off. I don't know how to explain it well, but it's a game-changer!

@InspireDIY

Hey Patricia, the shampoo/water mix is mainly there to help with repositioning and then removing bubbles with a squeegee. I’ve never attempted window tinting without it - but have found if I don’t spray enough then the film sticks straight away and is not forgiving at all. Best of luck, Kent

I had a wierdo son (who doesn't even live here) park outside my house while visiting his mother and stare me out, not just glancing, full prolonged wierdo stare out, several times through my kitchen window (about 12 feet away) that has one of those vertical slat blinds. Normally I don't have a problem with anyone else staring only getting the odd wierdo. I've realised my kitchen window is a wierdo detector lol. My sink, kettle etc is beside the window so I think some people think I am staring out at them when I'm just boiling the kettle or such. Thing is I like the light coming in and like to see out just to see the day, not stare at people, so am thinking reflective film but then they will all start looking at it and even though I know they won't see into my kitchen. I think it will be very strange but I may just have to go for it as this last worst wierdo was kind of the final straw and now I just don't feel comfortable in my kitchen as before. He was so bad I reported him and his vehicle reg to the police and I ended up having a bust up with his mother who I think is behind it and now we all hate each other. I'm sure there are many such stories which can get quite serious. I think I will go for the sort of two way mirror film. Think I have to now.
@InspireDIY
@InspireDIY 11 ай бұрын
Geez geeeezzzz, that's horrible. if you are unsure whether you want a permanent style of film on that glass, you could always install a 'Static-cling' mirror tint (which is non adhesive and removable) like this one which is popular... KESPEN One Way Daytime Privacy Static Cling amzn.to/43O46PD obviously this link takes you to amazon which also shows you other options - you just need to measure your windows and order the right size. All the best mate, Kent

@@InspireDIY Hi. Thanks. After reading my initial rant I should probably clarify it is thankfully not my son, nor have I ever been related to his mother who lives 2 houses up (to close lol). Anyhow I think I found the solution. I was put off reflective film because I usually need the light and sun warmth in my kitchen in this cold UK climate so I have ordered some of the static film type that has white opaque stipes and clear stripes inbetween. So with that I should still get the light and heat that I want and also retain a little night privacy compared to the reflective film & I still have the full slat blind if needed but I think when I have the film up I will be able to completely open or maybe even remove that blind. I also don't need to film cover the top highest window section as the wierdos can't see over that so I should have even more nice light coming in than I do now. I should maybe be strangely thankful to the wierdo in forcing me to discover this great window invention that I was previously totally unware was available and an option but I will certainly be considering it from now on.

@@Eddie-ud4bb I believe this person meant that you shouldn't install the film while the sun is shining directly on the window. Try to do it early in the day or when it's cloudy so the glass won't be hot from the sun. I'm about to embark on this project myself on 10 panes of glass with a southern exposure, and my plan is to get an early start and do as many as I can before it gets too hot. This project may take a few days to complete... :)

@@InspireDIY well here's the thing, he might have been right, and it's what I'm about to do. First of all, you shouldn't put window film on the inside of double glazed units as the reflected heat will heat the unit up and you'll end up with a radiator panel. At best you may just get a warmer room than without the film, at worst, the window will fail. So if it's double glazed, you've got no option but to put on the outside. The other thing is that some films perform better optically / aesthetically from the viewpoint of someone on the inside of the space if the film is on the outside.
