Ages ago (late 70's) I put a cruise control system that I scavenged from an Oldsmobile on my '66 Impala convertible. It also got 6-way seats from a Cadillac, and the powerglide was swapped out for a 3-speed manual with an overdrive. I used the turn signal stalk from the Olds which came with the cruise control switches built in. It came out nice. :)

Cant believe it been 2 years already LOL. Been doing a fantastic job Ellie on learning and kudos too to dad for being a great teacher in some of the projects and having the patience to teach you and have you do the work instead of him so you learn how it is done right ;) One thing I will mention to you and this from experience of being a restoration garage...keep your eye on what you are using for lubrication as you dont want any silicon (like WD40 products or the like) used in the garage as it will stay in the air for months and land on your car surface...this gets under the surface of the primer or the paint and you wont notice it for a year or so after the paint is on the car. It can happen, been there myself, but dont use that in the garage ;) Just a thought for ya from personal experience and saving grace with yourself on the "oh crap, what happened here" in a year or so LOL. Keep up the great work, I am soon to start working on a 62 Ranchero restor mod but always fun to watch your progress.

Thank you so much and thanks for that tip on WD40 products. We didn't even think about that, but it sounds like experienced advice. We'll keep an eye on that in the future. Thank you again!!

Nicely engineered system. Reminds me of the Dana kits the autoparts stores use to sell for under a 100.00 many years ago. I like how Dakota integrates the kit into the dash. Looks seamless and very neat. Nice work.

Nice work installing it. Cruise control is a great feature in cars. All my cars have it , but they are factory installed not aftermarket. My 99 Corolla has it , 88 Mustang and my 83 F100 has it. And they all work great, I used it every time i get on the freeway. Just don't use it in rainy or snowy condition. The rear tires can break loose .

Ellie On my 1966 Mustang which is a 200 Six Cylinder, I did install a Rack and Pinion steering unit. Love it! I shaved off about 75-100 lbs. it’s Manual and now there is no “Bumb Steer” either. Turns are a little bit tighter and very responsive too. Thanks for the Video.

Interesting project! That is a very useful upgrade to an older car, we get spoiled driving new vehicles with loads of creature comforts, why not bring Carl into the 21st century. I have been noticing when you and your dad work around the motor, the carburetor is exposed, please find some kind of a cover you can quickly put on and remove, maybe a spray can cap or small storage container. Then get into the habit of using it whenever the air cleaner is off.

Wish I had that system on my Mustang when I was driving from Norfolk VA to Atlanta GA every weekend I did not have duty while in the Navy to see my now wife. She was worth a bit of pain or discomfort I suppose.

I love this project so much, if you’re ever interested in talking I would be honoured. I’m a slightly older but I’m an teenager with an 66 falcon and the same goals as you. Maybe we can exchange ideas and talk about the cars. I’ve always wanted to talk to someone around my age who has the same passion as I do, especially another female in a male dominate trade

Does it kick out of CC when you put in the clutch?
@ElliesGarage
@ElliesGarage 2 жыл бұрын
We have an automatic, but the system does have a "runaway cutoff"--a wire that leads to the tachometer reading that will cut off the cruise control if the rpm goes too high. So, if you had a manual and pushed in the clutch, it would probably rev up real fast but then it should cut off. Hope that helps.
